You're not gonna try to drive it to Ovaboost after doing the injectors are you??? I'd bring a couple sets of replacement spark plugs if you are Also keen for results from the tune/drags
-
Haha this is what I said:
-
Am bored... So I've asked for pics of the time slip, dyno graphs and receipts from engine work. Looking forward to a reply

A good tune is probably the BEST thing you can do for your car. You'll get more power, better drive-ability and a LOT better fuel consumption. I'm making almost 400rwhp and I still get 550kms to a tank. Best I ever got when my car was stock was about 350. Injectors will do the opposite, if not make your car undriveable without a tune. As Bob said, better off just getting your injectors cleaned and replacing the O-rings. Still highly recommend getting a tune though.
-
Bit expensive? NIStune will be both cheaper and better than doing injectors mate.
-
That's... Exactly what I said. Lol. Most likely because of my lack of VCT, my G3 doesn't build torque very quickly. It still creates a lot of torque, but it's not a steep curve. My mates TD05 actually has a steeper torque curve, despite being more responsive. It makes less peak torque and less peak power, but the shape of his curve gives his car more of the rush. Kasko, you need to be aware that the feeling you're after doesn't last, you do get used to it. Like you keep referring to your stock turbo giving the feeling you're after, yet if I was to go for a ride in a stock GTT I bet it would feel like I was in a Getz.
-
What is 'stage 2/3 tuning'? Play less Need For Speed man The ECU doesn't make the power, fuel+air+spark makes power. And that is all in the tune. A PowerFC is going to be no more capable or reliable than a NIStune unless the tuner is more capable with the PowerFC, etc. There's cars around making over 600kw with NIStuned ECU's.
-
I agree with Rolls and Harey saying it is the torque delivery that you feel. My G3 only really comes on strong at about 5000rpm, and you get a little bit of a shove but nothing extreme. Most likely due to the lack of VCT. Comparing that to a mates 25 with an almost identical setup to me except with a smaller TD05, so less torque and less power, his turbo comes on song at about 4000 and it gives you a real shove. My car is still quicker, his just feels more brutal. I need a retune dammit
-
You mean the loss in torque? That's got nothing to do with the motor, it's the length of the runners on the intake. As a general rule, shorter runners = less mid-range more high end, longer runners = more mid-range less up top.

Sourcing Some Cheap Turbo Fittings - An To Mm
Hanaldo replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Is the stuff on this site any good? I'm looking at getting some braided lines and fittings to use for fuel lines, but obviously I don't want crap. Does this site sell fittings cheap or cheap fittings? Or would it be ok to buy their braided hose and use Speedflow fittings? Will probably just get Speedflow stuff to be honest. -
I'd say it's the jumper cables you're using mate. Most cheap jumper cables that you buy from Supa Cheap etc actually just have very thick insulation around what is probably only 8 or 10 gauge wire, so they can't provide enough current to jump start a car unless the battery only just doesn't have enough power to start the car anyway. For example, this is my cheap set of leads that I bought for $20 from SupaCrap: Compare that to this set of leads that I made myself from 00-gauge cable: My battery frequently goes flat as the car may sit for awhile without driving. With the set of leads from Supa Cheap, I could never get the thing started, I always had to take the battery to Battery World for a charge. With my set of leads, the battery has never been flat enough to not jump straight away and I've had it as low as 7v (dead, in all rights)

It had to be done

The source is just above the quote. Which part of it didn't make sense to you Roy? As I said, I don't know how much of this is fact etc. I could go to my uni library and research it but I think that's getting a bit involved lol. The above quote made sense to me, especially considering the brands with a lot of R&D in them utilize that shape. Might be getting a little off topic though...

Missing Rb20 Air House, Please Help
Hanaldo replied to FullBoooost's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Tell said air to apply to the government, they'll give it a house. Seriously though, attach the picture already -
I'll just ditch the stock washer bottle and buy a small universal one. Either relocate it to somewhere else in the engine bay if it fits, otherwise to the boot. Stock one is ugly anyway

If only it was the one I wanted!

Yes, but that's where the design of the plenum itself comes into it. I'm no expert on plenums by any means, but from what research I have done, I understand that the rear of the plenum is narrower and the front wider to create a more even airflow, eg. like this: That shape means the path of least resistance is no longer the back of the chamber. As I said though, I'm no expert. Anyone with a better understanding care to correct me or elaborate? *EDIT* I'm a university man, so gotta leave my source http://horsepowercal...manifold-design And to quote said source:
-
Lol, so you tell those of us wanting to get an aftermarket plenum to just get the GTR one; and those of us wanting to get a GTR plenum you tell to go aftermarket? You need to make up your mind, sir!
-
Thanks mate. I was considering a CPC as well having read Ariel's thread, but unfortunately he would need me to send him my runners so he could get started, which means a lot of down time for the car. So you managed to get the dampener to fit with the Nismo reg? Maybe I should just get a fuel reg, I suppose I'm gonna have to bite the bullet at some stage. I don't have much choice with regard to the intercooler plumbing, I've got a custom oil catch can/rad overflow unit sitting in the battery tray with no room for it to move over. If I could get in contact with someone there who actually knows what they are talking about then I'd give it a go, but so far whoever I've spoken to would tell me anything to get a sale. To be honest, it doesn't inspire me with confidence about dealing with them. Come on, not even Phil's? Each to their own man; but either way, both Greddy and Plazmaman look miles better than stock I am in two minds about whether to get it mirror polished or satin black. It seems a shame to get a Plazmaman in anything other than mirror polished, but to be honest I think it may be too much chrome for me. Still not sure.

34Geeteetee Daily / Track Project
Hanaldo replied to 34GeeTeeTee's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Come on Matt, stop messing about and get it tuned already, I want results! Seriously though, I'm watching this space You've got me tempted to start my own build thread, but my god it's come a long way... I don't know if there are enough hours in a day. -
Was thinking the same thing ^ It's hard to tell with parts like these. I wouldn't be surprised if these caps cost $2 to make, then they slap a Nismo sticker on there and start making $130 profits per sale on the things. Then you get one seller who's happy to increase demand by lowering the price and only make $30 profit on each sale yet sell hundreds of them. Then again, what's genuine over fake anyway? It's an aluminium cap, it looks the same and it has a Nismo sticker on it. Same same?
-
Thanks David, I appreciate the response. Is ditching the fuel dampener ok? I'd rather not if it's going to cause problems... But if it's one of those things that just doesn't make a difference once you start modifying things like the fuel pump etc. then I'll just do what Dahtone said.

And I know LOTS who couldn't be happier having gone down this path. Is any of what is being posted in here actually first hand experience, or is this all regurgitated 'he said she said' information? I'm not about to invest 1.5k into something without doing research, and as yet I haven't really come across anything where the result was SO much worse than the stock intake manifold that the owner regretted the change. There's Roy's experience with it, that's about the only direct poor experience I can find. Trent from Status has mentioned that he has seen no gains, but what sort of losses have you seen Trent? On the other hand, Mercury Motorsport claim to have done testing on the Plazmamans and rave about their performance: You also suggest going to the RB26 intake, but can you please point me in the direction of the results that show it is worth the cost and hassle? There is no doubt that trying to fit the 26 intake to my car would cost a HELL of a lot more than the Plazmaman or any other option I have, not too mention the fabrication and effort that it requires as well. I haven't seen any results that tell me it is THAT much better either. Look my car isn't a serious race car. It's a bit of fun, and I do track it and I like to go quick. I also like it looking good, I've spent money on other areas than performance purely for the looks perspective. To anyone who has actually done it, does changing to a forward facing plenum REALLY ruin the car? Does it make such a big difference either positive or negative that it simply isn't fun? Just to be clear, I'm not putting this on a stock setup either. I am currently making 393.7rwhp (hub dyno, debate it if you will) with plenty of torque. Please, experience tells all, so if someone has done this and it did work/didn't work, link me. It's possible to route the piping through the side, just requires a couple more bends. Depends how fussed you are whether you deem it worth it or not.
