  1. Ah!... it's supposed to be like that. Thanks Nigel, JohnH
  2. I think the dizzy is OK, the car's running fine otherwise. For some reason, there's corrosion on the outside of the valve (and nowhere else). Thanks for the reply, JohnH
  3. Hi, Idle after a cold start, 1100rpm. Idle after a 10 minute warm up, 900rpm. Idle after a 30 minute drive, 1100rpm. Car is an auto, in 'D' idle is 800rpm. I let the car warm up for over 10 mins before driving and the problem didn't occur. Would still like to know what that component is... cheers, JohnH
  4. Could it be this component? (And what is that component?) JohnH
  5. Hi, My '83 MR30 (2.4E) is running with a newly-fitted reco distributor. After a cold start, I drive for a few minutes and, under acceleration, the engine cuts for a brief second and then runs normally. It only happens _once_ and the car runs fine after that. Any ideas what the problem could be? I'm wondering if the vac advance mechanism may be sticking and then moving suddenly. Or is there some kind of cold start switch that could be at fault? JohnH
  6. Z170 is correct for L24E (R30 '83 model) JohnH
  7. Seat and back cloth worn through to the foam. Driver's seat especially. The "mechanicals" of the seat seem to be OK. I assume it's a "poverty pack" model (nothing special - rear brakes are drum). I'm in the SE suburbs. Happy to oblige. regards, John
  8. Hi, I'm looking to repair or replace the front seats in an '83 Skyline MR30. The current (original) seats are badly worn and torn. Options are: * pull them out and get them reupholstered - expensive - one auto trimmer quoted around $800 for all the seats (and the car cost less than that to buy/roadworthy) * wreckers - the MR30 seats I've seen are all in similar or worse condition. * fit seats from a different/newer model. It looks like the third option is the way to go. Can anyone recommend seats that will bolt straight in or that can be fitted with a minimum of difficulty? (It's an old car in original condition, so brand new "racing" seats won't suit.) JohnH
  9. Just a postscript to this thread, I found a schematic and detailed reconditioning instructions for these distrubutors. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/dis...uild/index.html JohnH

  11. Oops... just figured out you're in Qld!
  12. Hi, Saw this in Pick-a-Part in Kilsyth (Vic) last weekend. Not sure if it's exactly what you want. Price quoted at $57. Marks are greasy hand prints. 84 Skyline cheers, JohnH
  13. Does it look similar to this one? D6K8 distributor JohnH
  14. Hi, I work in the city too... Getting the distributor reconditioned is another option. I've been quoted $200+ by a place in Nunawading. I assume you're using the reco distributor in your car, or is it a spare? cheers, JohnH
  15. Hi Dennis, Thanks for the fabulous service. Pls let me know when you're ready and I'll PM my details. You can also PM about payment. Fortunately, the Skyline is only my reserve car (mostly driven on Sundays!). regards, JohnH
  16. Hi, Thanks for the response. I assume, from GR's response that it won't work but, just in case, do these numbers happen to match? Distributor: D6K8-02 9903 22100 P7 101 Ignition module: E12-80 I might also need a rotor button and the distributor cap. Where are you in Melb? I'm in Wheelers Hill (Glen Waverley). PM a response if you prefer. regards, JohnH
  17. Hi, Thanks for the reply. The problem is that I haven't been able to find one (manual or auto). John
