  1. Hi, I thought _all_ repairable write-offs required a VIV to be re-registered. Are you 100% sure about this? edit: hmmm... Just checked VicRoads web site. Vehicles over 15 years old aren't listed on the written-off vehicle register. It doesn't exactly say how to re-register in that case. JH
  2. Perhaps you could take it for a test drive? JH
  3. update: Autobarn Dandenong can do colour based on the paint code (but not on a sample). $30 per can. I've also discovered that my car is platinum, not silver. Thanks for your help. JH
  4. Thanks for the responses. I'll try the Auto Barn store in Dandenong. JH
  5. Any updates on this? JH
  6. Hi, I'm attempting to tidy up an older Skyline (R30). The car is silver (paint code 006) but the standard silver-grey available in auto stores is too light. I'd probably have to take off the fuel flap and get the colour matched. Can anyone suggest where to get spray cans made up to match a specific paint colour? In in Melb, SE suburbs. JH
  7. Hi, Try a silicon spray lubricant on the window felts and channels. No need to pull the trims off, just spray where the felt/rubber trim meets the glass. JH
  8. Hi James/Jimmy, Thanks for posting the link. Excellent painting guide for a beginner like me. cheers, JH
  9. Now on eBay, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=110521875995 Good for parts but owner is selling the whole car. JH
  10. Emailed VG Auto Paints and Tools and received a very quick response... JH
  11. Hi Greg, Any updates on the car? JH
  12. I can't see how to stick down paper _and_ fold it back, because if the masking tape runs over the paper, it's stuck to the paper and not the panel. Thanks for the response. JH
  13. When my brother's car was stolen from Holmesglen station a few years ago, it was found five weeks later in Southland car park. It had been parked there for many weeks. It might be worth an early morning drive through the local shopping centres. It's easy to leave a car there without being noticed. Now... about that steering wheel lock (Club Lock type). Did you have one fitted? Asking because I often park at railway stations. Hope you have better experiences with busses than I did. Here's hoping the car turns up soon. JH (Oh, they found an envelope in my brother's car, got his address, figured no one was home and robbed his house!)
  14. Hi, I'm fixing some dents and scratches on an old R30. Found a dent repair guide on this website:http://www.vgautopaints.com.au/ But I can't quite understand this tip: Does anyone know what it means? Also found some useful videos on dent removal by a New Zealander who goes by the name of 'Restolad'. Here's an example: JH
  15. Got free time Sunday morning if you want to organise a local search. Early start while the roads are quiet. A few cars could cover a decent area. You'd have to identify likely places to look (shopping centre car parks, industrial estates, back roads etc). JH
  16. Posted details on the R31 forum. If someone finds/sees the car, how can they contact you? JH
  17. Hi Greg, Will keep a lookout for it over this side of town. Did you have a steering wheel lock on the car? JH
  18. The tacho is weird, the engine wasn't running. JH
  19. Just a note if anyone's thinking of putting this car back on the road in Victoria. The car is a "repairable write off". To have it re-registered requires a roadworthy cert and a Vehicle Identity Validation (VIV) cert from VicRoads. The VIV costs an amazing $484! This applies to all those hail-damaged cars as well. To get them registered and back on the road costs around $1200 (roadworthy cert + VIV + rego). MAG86, you have a PM about parts... I'm interested in the front seats and steering wheel - not sure how you'll drive it to Canberra! JH
  20. They must have got the message. Price is now $1450 negotiable. JH
  21. Has a personalised plate too, FI 040. I wonder what the 'FI' stands for. JH
  22. Hi, Thanks very much for the info. I'd never heard the term 'shill bidding' and, being new to eBay (and also slightly stupid!), have bid way too early on items. A real life auction takes place in only a few minutes. These 5, 7 and 10 day auctions are a bit of a trap for beginners. (EBay has a help page on shill bidding here.) JH
  23. Great pics and looks like fun. Is the sedan also an auto? The sedan should have a weight advantage over the hatch. JH
  24. Hi, What kind of damage would the Subaru have? Front? Rear? Side? Broken lights/mirror? JH
