  1. well I took it for a drive today, being slightly warmer compared to at night and perfect. pulls strong all the way through. Slight dip at around 4500 but some have told me thats to do with the VVT? is that the case? Was worried about my spark plugs too, heat range 5, gap 1.1 but given im only running the standard boost I think they should be ok? PS still only getting 7psi on the gauge (digital) with these mods
  2. no I havnt, it is something im planning to do though but not as yet
  3. no its developed recently. Car has the symptoms of the threads I have read on here but only std boost and no lightning show from the coils.
  4. Ok I need the SAU guru's to help out on this one. My car is an R33 gts-t with very low milage in good condition. The following mods/work have been carried out: - Std Turbo with std boost (5/7 as confirmed by a boost gauge) - R34 gt-t intercooler (cleaned out) - 3inch bellmouth dump pipe - high flow cat (apparently xforce, came with car) - 3inch stainless system with two big mufflers (also came with car) - new timing belt (timing reset) - full fluid service (inc. AFM clean) - new iridium ngk standard spec plugs (5 heat range, 1.1 gap) Now the cars runs really well, really stong. The car has developed the typical br25 flat spot on some nights (keep in mind it is extreamly cold in melbourne at the moment) The car takes off hard, then flatens out, then feels strong again. This matches up with what I have searched in relation to two things. Not there is no obvious missfire (ie spluttering, coughing) 1. R&R 2. Coils/plugs Now R&R seems unlikely given the car is running std boost? Is it possible to get R&R is the air is cold/dense enough? Second I took the coil cover off in the dark and the not one missfire is obvious at any RPM. The car only has 80,000ks and is in exception cond so its not impossible that the coils are ok, Cant find any cracks... So im confused??? Is it my heat range 5, 1.1 mm gap plugs? Is it R&R? I must have read 50 threads on the topic but everytime R&R appears is on higher boost and the coils show missfires and actually missfire (ie splutte where mine dosnt?) Thoughts?
  5. good reply, thanks. I took the cover off the engine in the dark tonight and no visible misfire's. might just leave it be for the moment
  6. great thread. have read the whole lot. my car has developed a flat spot in the midrange on a cold night, everything I have read suggests coil packs. So I might replace them with some of these yellow jackets as everyone seems thrilled with them and with a 2yr warrenty who can complain!. How long from ordering have people been receiving them when paying express postage?
  7. I have an airbox with a high flow filter, currently on loan to a friend so he can pass a rwc then it will be going back in. once in the car makes very little noise at all, which was my point
  8. interessting... jmr is getting higher boost with these mods. i have read this a few times accross this forum. my wastegate seems to be able to control the flow a little better, still getting the 5/7 however i think my coils are dying as I am getting a flat spot in the mid range.. have a day off tomorrow, going to silicone them up
  9. I dont want it to be silly, I had a V8 previously with just resinators and it sounded great but it really was stupid and eventually got annoying. Unless my rb is over 4-5k rpm there really is no noise at all. My dads stock xr6 turbo makes more noise! I was just after a burble. Not into cannons, big resinators only or anything like that. Just wanted a bit of burble not bark. Thats why I thought id leave the rear muffler (the biggest) and remove the centre but I dont want to make it too loud and get myself into trouble. its a tricky one...
  10. Hi guys, My r33 gts-t has the following mods - std boost (not a mod but just to make that clear) - 3inch turbo back exhaust with high flow cat - pod filter - r34 gt-t intercooler Have a slight flat spot in the mid range, will be siliconing up the coil packs during the week on my day off. Someone said the car might be running slightly more than 7 psi, maybe 9ish due to the car being freed up in the breathing department but the point is I wont be upping the boost from stock. I replaced the plugs when I did a major service and bought the NGK recommended Platinums. I cant remember the part number but they ran a 1.1mm gap and were a 5 heat rating. now considering its just a daily, only gets the occassional squirt and thats it and is running stock boost (i suppose 7-9 depending on who you ask given my mods?) Are these suitable? I am worried about the spark being blown out or detonation given the higher temp? On the other hand I dont want to run a smaller gap or hotter plug if I dont have to so am I safe with these or should I change them? thanks Jason
  11. with such a big muffler at the back (it really is big, truck muffler size) would removing the centre muffler make it alot louder? not looking for annoying just a bit of a burble
  12. thanks for the reply guys, the more I read though the more people I see getting more boost at the manifold with these breathing mods?
  13. yeah thats fine, was only going to go up a tad. I have read many times on here that they are 7psi stock (high) but with all the flow mods you will see 9-10ish?
  14. dont know if it helps but i think i did feel a bit of R&R which is a first for my car (well I havnt noticed it before at least) wasnt bad just a touch, Would R&R cause the boost to be cut back and if so 7 still seems very high if it was trying to protect itself? im confused?
  15. Hi all, I just installed a digital boost gauge on my r33 gts-t. note car has std turbo in excellent condition, no smoke or shaft play at all. So far my car has the following mods: - pod filter - r34 gt-t intercooler - 3inch bellmouth dump/front pipe - aftermarket cat (came with car) apparently an xforce but cant confirm - Jap (K&h brand) Cat back, 3 inch madral bends and stainless steel (has two mufflers however and the back one is HUGE with twin pipes running through it, maybe a restriction?) - new platinum plugs plus a major service belts, all oils etc Anyway, the car runs great, I just wanted to have a boost gauge before I start playing with boost modification. Given my mods and what I have read on the forum I was expecting about 7 low, 9-10 high. However I am still getting the 5psi low and 7 psi high boost. Im not concerned as I am going to change it anyway but I want to understand why its still standard. is there a restrivtion? what would be causing it? No point in uping boost if there is still a restrction in the breathing department. Thanks!
  16. yeah wont be getting a de-cat. I wonder if just removing the centre muffler and replacing with a straight pipe would sound good? The rear muffler looks quite big and has a twin chamber type design. K&H brand. Might be a good way to go, wont cost much either i figure. thoughts?
  17. im in vic nismoid. I wonder if just removing the centre muffler and replacing with a straight pipe would sound good? The rear muffler looks quite big and has a twin chamber type design. K&H brand. Might be a good way to go, wont cost much either i figure. thoughts?
  18. has anyone got a 3 inch system with a high flow cat and only one big muffler, what did you think if so?
  19. Ok sounds good. Would be cheapish too. What about this rear muffler, would it be restrictive? the 3inch in 3inch out but with the twin pipes running through it? its a huge muffler. ill try get a pic. doing the centre would be cheaper than the rear (less bends) Also I could keep my current tip which I dont mind
  20. i would but its all welded, beautiful system. It was a novelty to have it that quiet but truly it makes no noise, no different to stock system. I was thinking have the rear muffler changed to the flange (half way between middle and rear muffler) so I can change back if needed? Not looking for police attention just a nice, crisp but still reasonably quiet exhaust note
  21. Ok folks, I have an r33 gts-t. Current exhaust mods are: - Bellmouth 3inch dump/front pipe - Xforce 3 inch cat (apparently, came with car) - 3 inch stainless mandral bent system which also came with car. (it is jasma approved, so its quiet, one huge muffler at the rear that goes 3inch in then splits into two pipes inside and then back out with a single 3inch again, middle muffler is same brand but smaller about the size of a shoe box) the mufflers appear so say K&H on them, never heard of them? The car flows great, good performance, cant complain but its too quiet! It literally makes almost no noise. It is completely drained out by the induction noise. RB25s have a good note and I would like to get some of that without being too loud and offensive obviously. Recommendations for a good sensible note? remove rear muffler for a cannon? different rear muffler, no rear muffler etc? thanks
  22. yeah water spray seems to be the way to go. might do some research and make one up before the warm weather hits. time to do some searching
  23. does anyone know of any good threads going around about water spray effectiveness? I have had a search and havnt come up with much. did find some great articles on autospeed.com if anyone is interested
