  1. Just a quick question SydneyKid - why does hotter = leaner? I was under the impression that due to the RB26 inlet manifold, that 5 & 6 actually ran richer due to the fact that less air gets to these cylinders. I dont disagree that they run hotter, I just cant see how hot automatically means lean. Thanks for your time, Cheers, Matt
  2. I prefer 3.0 litre OS Giken kit. I reckon the full-counter crankshaft is worth more than the extra 100cc that you get from an aussie RB30 bottom end. OS rate this engine at something like 13,000rpm - so I reckon its a better bet when you're going to be consistently taking the motor past 10,000rpm. This option does take a chunk out of our $80,000 budget though As for cams, i'd be looking at HKS step pro or something with around 290 degrees duration, and as much lift as feasable Management would definitely be MoTeC M800.
  3. Cheers Sydneykid, Just got one more question, what happens to the EGT's as detonation begins? i'd guess that they decrease due to the 'boundary layer' being destroyed thus causing more heat transfer to the metal in the combustion chamber? Thanks again, Matt PS - you know you're a guru
  4. Hi Sydneykid, "Sensible A/F ratios" OK - for optimax, i'm assuming that this is in the 11's... "and tune the ignition timing very closely." Close to detonation? or do you mean listen closely for detonation? I also read recently that the onset of detonation is always accompanied with a puff of blac smoke from the exhaust - is this how you would detect detonation? Cheers for your help, Matt
  5. Don't worry Mark, you know we love you and your articles
  6. which issue of Zoom? the last one I got had the black 10 second R33 GTST on the cover
  7. Fair enough. I never spoke to him personally, I just remember his posts as being actually worth reading -A definite deviation from the norm. Matt.
  8. Warpspeed - that's exactly what I was looking for I remember a person on another now defunct forum called lott004... who was a garrett engineer as well.. he was a bloody helpful and friendly bloke too... Is this the same person? Cheers, Matt

  10. Hi Sydneykid, Quote:- "Hi Freebaggin, I can read a compressor map and choose a compressor and cover to suite my application. I then tell the turbo expert (we use GCG) what I have chosen and the engine spec and armed with this information he picks the turbine and housing to suite." I've just got a quick question for you, I hope you can help. I know how different A/R's affect the turbine, and I have learnt how to size a compressor for the job, but I don't know what effect the compresor A/R has... If you could explain this to me that would be great. Cheers, Matty.
  11. For more scanning info, try my mates scaning web page - it even has a live scanner stream that you can listen to over the internet www.scannsw.aesvn.org
  12. Got three actually, but don't tell anyone If your interested in getting your HAM license - go to www.wia.org.au Try to find your local radio club, as this will make studying much, much easier. The exams are about $30 dollars each and consist of 50 multiple choice questions, which are not hard if you do your homework If you're interested in radio mods just google it - you'll get heaps of HAM radio sites that detail all sorts of mods, even ones that will let you add channels to some radios. Cheers, Matt
  13. "You can buy a transmitting scanner with there band frequencies blocked and then get someone electronically handy to mod it so it recieves that band." Yeah, you need an Amateur radio license, which I just passed my exams this year While I know how to mod radios to transmit on whatever frequency I need, if I do this in a non-emergency situation, I get 10 years and a $250,000 fine, it's even printed in the licence condition determiniation. If it's a genuine emergency, and I properly identify myself with my callsign, it's perfectly legal...
  14. PS - how do you do those shortened links???
  15. Tony, yeah parts of sydney are digital, namely parramatta, bankstown, and the inner western subrurbs as far in as newtown. strutto - glad to hear it's worked out. At the moment, it's only brissy CBD and the nearby areas that are digital encrypted... Here's my favourite scanner:- it's on special right now, down from $647 to $497.. bluddy bargain http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro...duct/View/D2737
  16. If you're in Brissy, or Adelaide, give up now... The police have just rolled out an APCO25 Digitally Encrypted system... Unless you have $5,000 or so for the Motorola XTS3000 radio, and the programming lead ($600), plus the software ($depends), which you can't get unless you work for a "government agency"... Oh, and then you need the encryption key loader as well as an encryption module and even if you have all the money for all of this, you'll need the encryption keys, and an agreement with the QLD police that authenticates your radio on their network because the encryption keys are changed every 24hours automatically... etc, etc, etc.... Sure, you can listen to those frequencies listed, but all you'll hear is digital buzzing followed by hash. Cheers, Matt
