Quick Question About Boost.
daslingdale replied to daslingdale's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The exhaust has worn in and it sounds grouse. Recommended! -
Hey everyone Spoke to someone about boost controllers. What they told me is unless you are going to get an electronic boost controller with a two solenoid setup then the next only reliable choice is a manual boost controller (bleed valve). They say that an electronic boost controller with one solenoid can have a problem if the solenoid overheats it can fail in the open position and let through unlimted boost. Could this happen with cars that run low boost like 10psi? Can a manual one still spike? If so how high? I ordered a Turbosmart E-Boost Street before finding this out. Good or bad purchase? Cheers Dale

Intercooler Pipes Not Staying On Under Hard Driving.
daslingdale replied to daslingdale's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Got the new clamps on and they appear to be holding. If they pop off I will resort to the other solutions everyone posted. Thanks guys Dale -
Started replacing parts with AEM parts. Want to get rid of it all. A/C (Pretty much everything to do with the entire system except the belt). Turbo-back exhaust (Muffler is a Nismo one). SMIC. Rear seats and seat belts. Boot carpets & boot lining. All in used condition. $225.00 for the lot. If I find anything else I will just add to it.

Yeah that is all I want to do at the moment. Unleash and lash out on those corners at my own pace. Siked.

In that case I am booking it tomorrow. Or first thing Monday. Siked! Do you need full race gear? Or a roll cage? Thanks heaps for that little piece of information.

Those track days look grouse. Just need to become a member to get my CAMS.

Hey I've seen this sweet highclimb some forum members have used. It's called the Haunted Hills hillclimb and I think it's in Gippsland. That is all I know though. I can't find any other information on it, like booking etc. Anyone know? Thanks Dale

Intercooler Pipes Not Staying On Under Hard Driving.
daslingdale replied to daslingdale's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I tried the new clamps last night. They are much better than the standard ones. While I took everything off I found out one of the problems. One of the pipes coming from the intercooler comes up through the hole in the chassis on a slight angle. So when I tighten the clamp it creates a gap which is now leaking boost. I was in a rush and couldn't see if it wasn't sealing properly being dark. So tonight I am going to rip out everything and make sure all the piping lines up perfectly. Might take a few nights at my rate but I will let everyone know how it goes. -

I am in Melbourne. All the piping I have already has been lipped. They are small but it should suffice. -

I don't remember seeing any sort of bracket. A bracket would do the trick though. -

Not sure if I will weld it yet as I don't have a welder. My mate can do it for me eventually though. Just got some clamps now from Just Jap. Overnight postage rocks. Nice dp btw. Looks like a Tommy Kaira kit. -
Intercooler Pipes Not Staying On Under Hard Driving.
daslingdale replied to daslingdale's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah but I doubt this would be the same for every cheap intercooler going around. I really just think they tried to make it so that it came as close to a universal fitment as possible to cut cost. That way all they have to do is throw in a handful of random nuts and bolts, then send it on it's way. -

Yeah I will give that a go. I will be fiddling with these pipes all Saturday that is for sure. -

I am not sure. Don't have a gauge or controller. But it doesn't seem to be overboosting or anything. I really should get a gauge. -

When you say "lip" you mean make a lip on the pipes that are blowing off where it joins the the joiners? -

First time it was the smaller one going to the turbo. Second time it was the larger one and it blew off the elbow. They are all original pipes with original clamps. The aftermarket pipes that came with the kit are holding up well so far. -

Yeah looks like new clamps and ultra tightening them is the way to go. I can't remember what size the clamps were. Anyone know? I don't have a decent measuring device. Lol Might just grab some JJR ones since they are fairly cheap and look like the ones that came with the intercooler kit. And those ones are holding up sweet. -

Ah that explains everything. I was scratching my head wondering how the hell they could have designed this system as a bolt on when half of the mounts don't even line up to the car. Like why design a system for a car to not line up with that car if you know what I mean? Lol. But yeah we already did all of that. The top mount is cable tied just to the right of the central pillar on the front so the bottom mounts line up with the holes on the chassis. That way also the pipes can actually connect properly. The mounting of the actual intercooler was done correctly. But I might be able to tighten up the clamps better. So I will give that a try. If I can find some silicon pipes that replace those black metal ones then I would upgrade them regardless. -
Hey Just fitted a JJR Stealth Front Mount Intercooler. I haven't upped the boost or anything since I don't have a boost controller. Problem is that everytime it hits the higher boost under hard acceleration these pipes blow out because of the high pressure. When fitting this intercooler did anyone upgrade the clamps on that piping? Or replace those metal pipes with silicone ones? I believe they are coming off because the pipes don't directly line up without slightly forcing them to. And there is no leeway in the piping being metal so all of the stress from the pressure is being put on the clamps. Better clamps might just do but if I could replace those pipes with silicone ones it would be much better I reckon. I couldn't find any direct replacement pipes in silicone. Does anyone know where I can get some? Or do I need to cut my own? Cheers.

Want one that isn't damaged. Even though I don't know how one could be damaged. Willing to pay cost price for a new one. Or just under if used and in new condition.

Didn't know Do Luck made those. That will be my last resort if I cannot get this other thing to work out. The four door rear just looks much sharper. -
Quick Question About Boost.
daslingdale replied to daslingdale's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah that sounds like a good idea. But I might start catching the train to work so this will be my weekend car soon enough. I will be more reluctant to put up with it. You are right about the stainless part. Never been a fan of stainless compared to mild steel as far as sound goes. -

Interesting. I might shop around for a cheap four door boot lid and rear fascia. See what I can do with it and weigh up my options to which way I will have to go about doing it. My money is spoken for right now. But I am expecting big bucks at tax time.
