Don't know these city feels Even with monash roadwork bullshit I'm home to my hoon-ridden street in 20 max. Think I could clock 15 mins once it's done.
-
Can get them on eBay for $500-800 depending on battery size / motor. Little bigger than them, with bigger / all terrain wheels. But still very compact.

Your heat issue could be the electronic fan dicking around - it's ECU controlled and if not working these cars overheat very easily / do head gaskets. Common issue... -
Shit I thought eastlink slogging me $30 a week was bad

How unusual...maybe something scratched it and started a peel? I can't think how mine would ever do that even with the deathgrip of your average reddit user. Could it have been a copy?

We may have different applications, but I think a cut out sounds better on paper than in practice. Question I think you should ask is, how often are you going to use stealth mode or find yourself wishing your exhaust was dead quiet? That might be most of the time, which is fine, albeit unusual for a sports car...but my answer and experience from using Varex for years on my 108db system is that I rarely need to be in stealth mode and when I do the car drives absolutely fine under it - you just can't (or more accurately, shouldn't) thrash it / high RPM stuff. It will do a daily drive no probs and cruise a freeway with the valve shut. I think a cut out valve, if not done carefully, will sound like an exhaust leak when open and create a turbulent flow/sound rather than a nice one, which is why I think you should set up the system to flow properly in the mode you plan to be in most.

What's unreliable or poorly built about it? I think for the price point, 6-7 years of daily use out of a motor exposed to those temperatures is pretty darn good. Thought it would give in long ago.

The only acceptable aftermarket shift knob IMO...and it comes with a hollow rubber grommet to lift the boot
-
My old shifter burned in a fire, otherwise I'd have given you it for $88

Just beware, depending on what configuration of Varex you got (canon vs dual tip vs midpipe, it may not be healthy to push the engine whilst closed as it's quite a restriction at a single point in system (obvious by the huge sound difference). I find when shut they have slightly more initial torque off the line and from idle / low RPM, perhaps due to increased backpressure, but quickly nullified by the restriction as turbo tries to build boost. I love the dual tip Varex because when open it seems to operate like a straight pipe, leaving the rest of the system to do any muffling.
-
You'd want some sort of timer relay like a window switch so it's not perpetually trying to open it up / close it. Really though, you'll leave Varex open most of the time unless it's a crazy loud system.
-
Good idea, I thought of doing that this morning to test the motor. Control box is clicking its solenoid as it does, so have a feeling it's wiring or motor. Might just hardwire to a rocker switch as you say. Varex now have RPM controllers that can be wired into ECU and programmed to shut at cruise / open under certain throttle position, from memory. Would be cool but can't see the motor lasting as long?
-
My Varex now giving me issues and I blame this thread. Used every day for 7 years with no faults and out of nowhere it won't open/shut easily. Such a good muffler, though. As mentioned before, my exhaust doesn't drone and my music/tyres are usually louder anyway, but when you don't want to be heard it's quieter than the factory system. I reckon it's saved me an EPA at least a few times in the vicinity of a cop car / booze bus.

Mild steel + E85 for 6 years and counting
-
Start high, can always lower. I'm guessing the people in the market for these cars are checking carsales regularly. Only prob is you might make people think there's something wrong with it. As we've seen a few times in this thread - the prices on some ads seem to go up and down 5-10k each week lol Which gives credence to the idea that carsales may not be representative of what they are actually selling for.
-
The Brazilians have been shirtless for decades and never had any troubles with it
-
More concerned if it's E85 compatible

Unless it's a titanium Akrapovic...I'll choose custom everytime. Mild steel with mandrel bends finishing at a stainless muffler. Never understood the obsession with full stainless - to me it sounds tinny particularly up high and tends to drone more. Not faithful to the true engine sound. IMO what you want is a dampened/quiet version of the engine running straight off the dumps. My GTS-T cost about $600-700 to do 3" turbo back with bellmouth dump and resonator - I supplied the cat and the end muffler (varex). The mild steel makes it look stock/factory and it doesn't drone at all. Custom = close to the body - some off the shelf systems don't bolt up well if you have chassis kinks etc. Best of all, you get a unique sound because everyone else does stainless

I see a few of those on the road but it was a huge mistake making that thing slower than the family sixes They had the styling and name to obtain road presence and give the Megane RS a run for its money, but not the balls to back it up Unsurprisingly, most are driven by middle aged women!

Just a shame they're chasing the Euros at their own game, who've had that performance for 5 years. They have the price point to pull off some cool stuff and dominate the hot hatch segment, or steal the sports car rug from underneath the Japanese That damn assymeytical badge though...don't think I could ever like it!
