  1. This isn't a difficult decision. Smaller turbo with E85. The turbo isn't being driven any harder to make the same power, intake temps are therefore the same and less. My 275kw on E85 is the same boost (15psi) as the 252kw tune on 98. Same tuner, same degree of safety in both tunes. And that's just the top end power difference, which is admittedly choked by the small comp housing. Midrange picked up a full 40rwkw, same boost, just more timing. At these power levels the components have been safe for 5+ years of daily stick giving. It's about picking an appropriate power level for your components and finding the safest and most beneficial way of getting there. That is without question E85 and a smaller turbo! Open your engine or aim for the skies and you're asking for it. I think you know this now though, given your retrospective desire for an LS conversion...which I still think could be negated by the tried and true highflowed RB25.
  2. I don't understand this - what do you think split your block if not too much power or poor structural integrity? Pre-ignition? Not all blocks are the same and the N1 was created for a reason. Hamish did a bottom end with ~300rwkw. People break engines all the time on 98 without warning signs. It's no safer. For reasons I suggested before, E85 is much safer when shooting for the same power level. I'd even wager it's still safer with a bit more power than the 98 tune. I feel like you're saying 98 is safer because it will detonate before you get to unsafe power levels - if that is the point then it's moot when you can just not aim for the skies and be careful about your power levels.
  3. If you're shifting the performance of your engine into territory that breaks things then that's yours or your tuner's fault, not E85. E85 can take more timing than 98 but that doesn't mean you have to knife edge the tune any more than 98. This is why you start with E85 and aim for the power figure you have in mind using that fuel. Don't use it as a tool to get another 50rwkw out of an already traction-and-parts-breaking setup, use it to help a smaller turbo give you the same top end power with a fatter midrange, significantly better response, cooler engine temps and smoother idle. Then switching to E85 will be safer than 98. You also don't have to drive the car as hard to get good performance out of it.
  4. Am sad it's doing what it's doing...having bought a house I have no significant monies to throw at it at the moment
  5. Put your Put your dick on it
  6. Does it ever bother you that there are absolute f**kwits out there who wouldn't know a tenth of what you do about cars, driving 500kw GTRs up and down bypass that never miss a beat
  7. Mid size high flows are the way to go - improve a vehicle's power decently and leave it at that for reliability, tractability and usability. When choosing my turbo I drove Hypergear's 340kw 33 that took until 4500rpm to actually get anywhere and then it wanted to eat a gutter. He asked me if I liked the power...I said no man, make me a turbo that comes on quickly instead of this, so he did. Haven't looked back - convinced my turbo is what these cars should have come with from factory!
  8. ALL tuners have good and bad reviews, friends who love them and ex-customers not happy There will be names tossed around the forum, those are usually good leads. Ultimately I would go with the one that gives you the most confidence in their communications to you and is confident in a good outcome for your vehicle. Be clear about your requirements, what you expect etc. so you have a degree of accountability; also keep in mind that the tune in many ways will be limited to your vehicle setup.
  9. E85 Should be first stop for any decent FI power gains. Improve performance absolutely everywhere!
  10. Changing the forced induction method on a vehicle that came factory with FI is very silly Superchargers have a constant lag of their own that is just negated by the power gains when they start making a little boost. You'll notice it on a smaller engine and fuel economy will suffer even if not giving it stick If you want that supercharger whine just do a gilmer drive or smash your air con compressor with a hammer until it whines
  11. Pls just stop
  12. Does their warranty cover your engine or just their component failing? Be surprised if any engine modification offered liability insurance against total engine failure given so many indirect variables can cause it.
  13. Now stepped up to 0.02% since we're publically discussing how someone could defraud the tax refund system on a forum very few people visit
  14. Was just foot down when rolling, both cars had grip. Leigh's power delivery is just so linear that after the initial pull you barely feel it accelerating anymore...just see the speedo going up...probably also helps that you get to a given speed quickly so the feeling doesn't last as long either
  15. Agree with Leigh - the choice between the two comes down to whether you want to go fast or feel fast We clocked up more instant G force in my Skyline than his three hundred and seventy five kilowatts that walked away from me pretty easily
  16. Yeah well, legit just comes down to justification. The more you claim or the more crazy stuff you claim, the more likely you will be flagged in the system for review / audit (though some audits just happen at random as far as I know). Despite audit being a huge pain in the ass for someone, as long as you can justify with records/proof of your claims then you will be okay / they will only ever knock you back for it if they deem the item unreasonable to claim. If they see that you've made an honest mistake and you don't have a history of bad tax returns they won't penalise you for it. A tax return is simply saying "I shouldn't have paid tax on this item because x reason". The system sucks, but if you're not exploiting loopholes and all that jazz then you're one of the suckers paying more while those who know the system pay less.
  17. You can claim anything you want Whether it red flags an audit or not is another thing Tax is surprisingly subjective - if you can reasonably justify its use then it counts. Can't see a situation that would require those things but maybe the workshop can draw you up an invoice for repair labour without itemising those specific things... Vehicle has to be used to conduct work though, not just driving to and from work.
  18. Hence it pretty much comes down to what the VCAT mediator thinks is reasonable In this day and age brands are more likely to fix the issue and bill you lowly or not at all because not worth the negative word of mouth and social media etc.
  19. Sounds reasonable to me
  20. Probably a few years; I don't know much about oven expectations. Where consumer law usually favours people is with short warranties like 12 months etc. Ultimately what matters is what you can argue is reasonable at VCAT should you take it that far - if your time is worth more to you then just try your luck at getting repair out of manufacturer or suck it up / buy a new one. But yeah, back in the workshop days we had at least one case of someone who lunched their gearbox outside of warranty and when the new laws came in we had to replace it because they expected it to last longer.
  21. Missed out on these Buy contract has to be signed after July I still get 50% off though, and in the scheme of capital growth it wasn't worth waiting a few months / passing up the perfect property to save more stamp duty I agree with my broker who rationalised that with no stamp duty for FHB will come more competition from other FHBs plus a possible increase in the prices of cheaper properties because of this, negating stamp duty savings. Or...more to the point: my time could have been best to buy while everyone else is waiting for 100% stamp duty savings, as my competition was mostly non-first home buyers and not many at that, due to the more first home buyer friendly price range I bought in. After months of looking and some offers, I came to the conclusion that you do your research (growth, prices etc.), ultimately pay what the property is worth to you, and as long as you can service the loan the rest doesn't matter!
  22. Which new rules mate? July
  23. May as well be varrstoens
  24. A more perfect example of what I was harping on about couldn't come up
  25. People spent hundreds of bitcoins on pizzas when they were worth cents Were also stories of lost hard drives in apartments that had them stored on there, then disposed of etc. Lot of potential millionaires but that's like anything really...Apple, Amazon, FB
