  1. Kaz.....not exactly sure but I've been to the last 5-6 all over victoria (winton, calder etc etc) and we are yet to have a serious injury. Not only that but I don't even think anyones been injured at all and that includes Gareths sandown incident, Adz sandown moment, a WRX roll over.....the list goes on!
  2. Chrisman......LOL.....yeah right...mouse slip my a$$$$$ you just want a chance to do to a skyline what you did to the rampart WRX at the next track round, don't you???!!! hehehehe ....but yes I do need a new jumper (james- feel free to photochop a pic at this point ) jezzerrr - Yeah I also figured that the bad incidents he was witness to in his day might have something to do with this....I mean he did loose 2 friends at track events (admit'y one was on a crotch rocket) as well as having a fake kneecap thanks to the Morris's steering column not being collapsable. However as you said comparing todays club racing compared to over 30-40 years ago is like comparing the ol' apples and oranges and that is why I offered to take him on a passenger session. Unfortunately he just won't consider it atm.
  3. LOL at Snowie and Roy.........that would just be too easy to let you guys fight it out for the SAU championship honours alone now wouldn't it Wayne.....you are a very lucky man to have such an understanding family on both sides. I'm starting to think I was born into the wrong family!!
  4. Thanks guys I apprieciate everyones comments. Those that know me fairly well will know that this isn't going to make me stop...fact is I'm just too addicted atm :headspin: I guess all this just took me by surprise, I mean I've known/dated my wife for the last 10 years, I've always been a car nut and until last weekend I had never heard this from them. I also thought that considering her father is an ex-racer (and therefore thought the red-mist still flowed in his veins) that he would understand - clearly I was wrong!! Good advice on the cage there James. If I was running semis with track orientated suspension I'd be with you on that one but I figure with my crap street rubber (and I mean CRAP) and boat-like stock suspension I think there is enough 'give' in the system to be fairly forgiving if I push too hard. At the moment the car gives VERY obvious early signs that its about to go and gives me a chance to correct before heading backwards/sideways off the black stuff - that combined with the lower corner speeds make me feel pretty safe pushing her on the track. As that 'warning' time would dramatically change with semi etc I figure that that is the time to fit things like a cage. All those that have suggested taking my father in law for a passenger session - I all ready thought of this and offered to take him around sandown. Trouble is he thinks its too dangerous and won't even consider it. So I thought of the next best thing....offer the seat to one (or both) of my wifes brothers. Now both of them have been into cars ever since I knew them and have a rather special cooper brick sitting in their garage that they built from a rusty shell. Naturally I thought that they would jump at the chance considering they don't mind giving a car a squirt on the street but it seems the track is just too dangerous.
  5. Hi Guys and Girls, As many of you Vic people know I'm currently taking part in our 'club championship' and have just finished a very eventful 4th round at Sandown last weekend. As most of you also know my wife recently gave birth to our first child about 4 weeks ago and as a result we have had my wife’s' family in town (they live in Sydney) over the past couple of weeks. Now I've laid the foundations its time for the story....... I got home on Sunday just before dinner after spending the day whipping my gtst around Sandown. There I found my wife with a story to tell. Apparently while I was prepping the car on Sat as well as driving on the Sun my wife’s father had a little chat in her ear. To make a long story short he is really unhappy about me racing my car now I have a family of my own and wants me to stop. This is despite the fact that we race against the clock and not against other cars in a very controlled environment. When you consider the facts I suppose his arguments have merits as motor racing is dangerous and I'm sure most performance car drivers have heard this from family members at some point or another. HOWEVER the way I look at it is that this is my chosen hobby - people spend thousands of dollars skydiving or hang-gliding or the like and when you look at the stats there are probably more deaths involved with these types of activities than club racing your car. As I have always looked at it like that both my wife and my family have resigned themselves to the fact that I'm going to continue to track my car. Another thing that made this hard to swallow is the fact that my wife’s father used to race Morris 1100's and 1600's back in the day as well as the fact he was a water paramedic to earn a dollar. When my wife brought this up her father replied that he purposely stopped racing once he was married with kids (but continued to risk his life on the water day in day out for a living!!). Personally I find it a bit hypocritical for him to sit there and say this to my wife when I'm sure his own wife used to sit at home day in day out wondering if he was coming home in an ambulance. Personally I think I've got a better chance of coming home in one piece after a track day than driving my 'line down the street with all the idiot/drunk/high drivers out there. I also find this very hard to swallow when I think back a few years to the time the aforementioned father got his new car and proceeded to take me on a hot lap around his area - I think its a proven fact that its safer racing your car on the track than on the road....... Anyway rant over but interested in everyone's opinions, experiences and/or comments.......
  6. Congrats B....awesome result. I guess Snowies comment that something sounded wrong with your car on the autosalon dyno was spot on hey enjoy and I look forward to seeing your beast on the track
  7. Bec - considering he will only be about 3 weeks old by then the chances aren't high!! Believe me I'm soooo keen to get him in the skyline for a ride its not funny (and get that motorsport blood pumping!) but will probably wait till his little neck is strong enough to cope with the G's :headspin:
  8. Thanks for all the comments guys (& girls :-) Adz - LOL I know what you mean mate....I had to look twice to see whether he was flipping the bird or not!! Nark - Where were you when we were choosing names...thats a classic! Did you see that tread a while ago showing a pic of the nissan skyline specific baby seat?? If I could get one here it would have been first on my list! Inasnt/Funky - You are right funky it should be fitted as part of the compliance to meet ADRs. Don't know where you got that info inasnt but my 33 came with a mounting point. Kaz - thanks for the comment we thought he was cute but parents tend to be a bit biased As for the kiddie seat cover, put me down for one .....actually joking aside I was going to try get the logo on the clubs polo tops put on a kiddie top for him. As for the babysitting you might have to fight off Bec for that honour!!

    Auto Salon

First up, a BIG thanks to all the people who made this years autosalon a kick-a$$ event. A special mention should be made to Ash, Adz, James, Greg and Pete who helped move all the cars around the dyno. Thanks also to Bec for printing and laminating those pics/posters to make our stand look the goods and to Paul & Sarah (sorry if I got your name wrong but with sooo many to remember from the weekend, I might be forgiven!) for 'baby-sitting' the stand while everyone was enjoying the action elsewhere. Personally I enjoy autosalon 'cause it gives you a chance to see the whole variety of modified cars out there - anything from our SAU street driven/track cars to wild show cars with bodykits and stereos (even if some peoples tastes leave a lot to be desired). I also got to pop my autosalon dyno cherry and even though I don't run huge power it was interesting comparing results to other cars there on the day. Needless to say, Daves 604awkw run was awesome on Sat and I even managed to keep my eyebrows despite filming about 4 metres from the fireball!! I have the run on a digi film clip (around 7-8mb) so if anyone can suggest how I post it here pls PM me. Anyway here are my better shots from the day (yes I know there are a lot of pics of promo girls next to my car but hey you don't get to do this everyday do you!!??) and those of you who asked me to take some shots of their cars (Adz, Matt etc) pls be patient as I just started a new job and have to sort out my email stuff. Soon as its sorted (hopefully over the next couple of days) I'll forward the originals on. Those who took shots for me (greg in particular!!) pls forward the original hi-res versions to [email protected]. Also who ever has an original hi-res of the group shots - SAU and SAU/fangartists (maybe Sarah??) could you please forward to the same address. Great seeing everyone down there and hope to see you at the next event
