Braided lines are the most effective way to go about it. There is another way however.. if you want the look without the price tag you can buy a steel braid to go over your exisiting hose. It doesn't look as neat because you cant get the tension in the cover the properly made lines have, it also is a prick to get on and you will end up with a lot of holes in the end of your fingers! It is an option however. The bits are not cheap, which is why most people replace things for performance reasons as well as cosmetic instead of for the sake of it.
