  1. BW = Borg Warner??? No I've got a precision turbo... I've got some old dynosheets from a dynapack dyno when the motor was good and I guess it would be a good comparison. I'll have to wait until I get it on the dynapack for a few runs then do the comparison.
  2. Yeah, I've met Phil a few times, he is a good bloke and although he is very busy still helped me out with a couple things. I did speak to him last week and he said that he will book me in early-mid January. I think this was a good GTR in its day and this rebuild is heading in the right direction but I am not aiming to be competitive at Superlap and just want to get out there and have some fun then see what happens... I have had some exposure to a couple race teams and have seen what is involved to get a car to the front of the field. I do not have the funding or the time to go all out with the car but I want things done properly... UAS have done a great job getting it where it is and will be doing all of the major mechanical work, suspension setup and aero.. As for tuning, Dave at UAS has done the initial tune on their 2WD dyno and the car sounds good on the dyno (a lot better when it has compression on all 6 cylinders). I'm looking to take the car to a mate of mine, Jim at Tunehouse, to double check the tune and maybe have a play with the cam timing to see if we can get it to come on a bit earlier ... he can also check the 4WD operation on his Dynopack dyno. I'll ask Phil to give me a rundown on the Motec 4WD control.
  3. Thanks for the advice... I agree with you 100% and am taking the car to Phil for this work, its already booked to go to him next month. I think he mentioned robbo as the guy who was going to help him do the work. Reason for the rewire is that is has been a while (maybe 5+ years?)since the car wiring was done and there have been some adhoc additions A complete rewire might not be required but we are seeing some intermittent problems with sensors and wiring hence I want to get it sorted properly. If Phil recommends a rewire then that's what it will get. "Plan B" was to sell the old street registered car that was being setup as a track car and buy this one. The idea was to buy something that had all the goodies and a good setup and in the long term save some $$$... but as it turns out it wasn't so straight forward. But eh, that's racing and cars!... its turning out to be a pretty major rebuild. I'm hangin to get it out to the track but don't want to take short cuts !!
  4. Front diff is controlled by the Motec
  5. It will hopefully get more interesting once I get it out for a run. Here is the plan from here: 1. Get the car rewired and recheck the tune at UAS. 2. Take the car out for some practice 3. Sort out suspension need front & rear adjustable control arms, tie rods etc... do roll centres and try and fit 295s under the guards. (The car ran 265s alround when it ran the 1:35 at 2010 time attack) 4. Get the car down to Tune house on the 4WD dyno for a higher power tune and to check 4WD operation 5. Try and make it to Nissan/Datsun Nationals 6. Aero... Replace rear wing and setup proper under tray 7. Practice, practice practice 8. Get to World Time Attack in October! Oh... and try to lose 15kgs in between...
  6. Its running Caltex e-flex E85 fuel but a lot of people I talk to are running the United E85 from Rozelle in Sydney... not sure if this is a better fuel? Anyone? ATM I believe the tune is quite conservative running on the richer side and not too much timing...
  7. Having gone through another few projects in the past and "trying" to keep control of the costs, my aim was to try and get about 400rwkw at 20psi as we think this should be "safe"... 440rwkw at about 23 psi is pretty good but I do not want to push the motor as it is a fresh rebuild. I'll get it out for some private practice and get a few kms then we might look at whatever the restrictions are and then push a bit harder. The turbo should be good for around 900hp at the flywheel?
  8. Marko... It's called a safety factor. The goal was to run about 400rwkw @ 20psi as a run in tune. The car is getting completely rewired mid - late January and then I want to get it out for some practice runs...
  9. Video of one of the runs ... (turn down sound volume)
  10. Results from todays tune ...
  11. MSD Coils and new leads installed ... being dynoed today with a light tune on Caltex E70/85. I will post up a video later.
  12. I think the BSM guys put it on for World Time Attack 2010... It has to stay.
  13. Here are some pics !!
  14. Coil packs & leads arrived at UAS !!
  15. It's surprising how many guys know the car. It's got three of the main sponsor logos and stickers on it so ill get some more photos up soon...
  16. Haha! I was lucky to last the race, we had 4 x 15minute qualifying sessions, I was rooted... Qualified 6th ... Limped home in 10th. The body couldn't take it. I need to get fit for the race car!!
  17. I got given the mould. I guess any good fibreglass guy should be able to make them ?? Here is the bar that I had made up with one of the spares that I got with the car. The front diffuser comes separate...
  18. Thanks Marko ... No pressure! I don't know where that "gun driver" came from? I've just got to get the body in shape (other than round) then I might be able to get some respectable numbers otherwise I might have to hand the keys over to someone else to drive for me. Went Go-Karting on Saturday night, Im still sore!!
  19. I have not taken it out yet but here is one when the BSM boys ran it at the 2010 World Time Attack ...
  20. Here is what the car looked like before the respray... If you look closely you can see the bodgy patches that I temporarily fixed as the old stickers peeled sections of paint off. The colour is Ford Blueprint... I've got the original front spoiler but decided to setup another one (i got a few spares) as I'm guessing there might be some off road 4WDing!!
  21. HA ...thats why when I saw my car for sale with all the goodies it was a $20K changeover but let's not go there as the budget is well and truly blown again. I love these cars!!
  22. At the end of the day that is what warranty is for... Any such major mechanical work outside of a warranty period will be expensive. I bought a MY12 and was shown the section in the warranty book which allows space for two gearbox replacements!! These cars are heavy they will stress and break things but they shouldn't unless you are abusing them for long periods. I'm hoping that the aftermarket guys will have all such issues sorted with the three year warranty period. I'm going to try and get use of my warranty period (for a change!)
  23. Correction ... It is a Precision 6768 turbo ... sorry!!
  24. The heads have had some serious work and the car was making 420 awkw (Tunehouse Hub Dyno) at 21 psi with the -10s twins on 5 cylinders (Cyl #4 was down on compression). It felt really laggy... I'm hoping that the car will be a little more responsive now with the single... The car made about 445 rwkw on the UAS dyno at 23 psi but was breaking down on a conservative tune with not much timing... Dave said that it comes on from about 4500 rpm but I will wait until we get the new coil packs and turn it up to 25 - 26 psi. The only real test is to take it out on the track and see how it drives out of corners. The car has had a stringline wheel alignment, and is getting some new pillowball bearings then the rear diffuser is going on and it then go to Tunehouse for a quick once over and a tune on their 4 wheel hub dyno. This will give me a chance to check the 4WD system which is controlled by the Motec. We were trying to get the car to Goulburn Airport runs but it did not make it... I am not rushing it. If all goes well then I'll be taking it to Phillip Is Nissan/Datsun Nationals next year. Then if all goes well and I'm up for it then I will try and go to Superlap as well. I am getting some stickers put on the car and then it will be going to Bodytech Automotive (Castle Hill) for their Tradeshow event mid next month and the guys will give it a clean and a buff. I will take more photos and post them up soon ... Vent out ... no air con in this car!!
  25. Good stuff ... love the detail on getting it to turn corners and stop!! You've done this before??
