  1. it's a shame the new 86 is going to be a flat 4. interesting in seeing what the new silvia is and what engine they ll use.
  2. i asked a similar question a few months ago. i'm in the middle of buying a series 1 s14.
  3. never seen rubber on them in my area. all concrete.
  4. can't edit my rushed post. well, when i say chicanes, i mean with hard gutter and a hard chicane (at least 10cm high) and lots of signs on them. something you wouldn't want to hit.
  5. well, i didn't think of the differences between roads in the suburbs and your area, mine are mostly narrow and full of cars. i think you ll find a few chicanes more effective along with the odd speed bump (since they are always pain). a hard chicane will slow most people down to below 50kphs, more like 30kph and only a decent car will be able to go past 60kph threw them, plus the speed bumps would probably get rid of a lot of the trouble on your road. considering you have a wide road with a hill at one end, it's just asking for trouble
  6. governments are too focused on enforcing road rules and making money then teaching people how to handle cars. i would be safe in saying, most drivers have no idea how to recover a car if they lost control or how to minimize damage. most people dont understand how to drive, how their car works in the current environment. i'm not claiming im perfect, i have done some bloody dangerous things however the difference is that i knew how to minimize or correct my mistake and learnt from it. eg, brakes locked up, could feel which wheel had less grip (mix wet and dry ) and countered it out to avoid the car infront. true, my experience hasn't always been enough but it has helped in quiet a few situations. governments wont ever change tactics though because it's expensive, doesn't earn them money and they don't want people "knowing how to hoon better".
  7. if there was no VNs, people would find another car similar to do similar things in. now, you claim speed bumps would help, might reduce it a bit however VNs aint imports, you dont go over a speed bump @ 5kph in a VN. since i still drive a VN (only a week to go before s14), speeds bumps @ 50kph isn't too bad, tried 70kph before, that was a bit of a bump and yeh, suspension wouldn't last doing that either. clearly in this story the car isn't to blame, the drive had been drinking and the driver was 15 so i doubt the car would have mad much for a difference. VNs are commonly totaled for a few reasons. 1) common. 2) the worst security ever (crime stats put VNs as the most stolen car of 2008 in vic). 3) cheap, can be had running for $500-$1000 4) somewhat light for the cars size (tare 1.4t) with v6 and rwd. no supercar but powerful enough to do stupid stuff with. the suspension isn't the worst in the world, driven my friends old excel (mid 90s) and that car is unbelievably bad. also, the driver should know how to drive, how the car handles and not attempt to follow a skyline or pretend it is and take the corner at double the limit. the car handles poorly but it's not like you wont notice as soon as you start driving it, thus the drive should take corners slower etc. cant blame the car for driver error. you wouldn't attempt to go fast around corners in a van or truck, neither should you in crappy old cars. in the end, be thankful it was a VN and not a skyline or another import cuz the media would have blamed the car no doubt. edit: forgot to add, vn brakes are shocking.
  8. a white car blends into traffic far more then a multi-coloured car. i just thought it was an amusing requirement..
  9. it's for an s14 and the last car i inspected the owner did the compression test infront of me. didn't take that long.
  10. i'm looking for a company that does decent thorough inspection. i did use stateroads last time and i was happy with them however, they are a bit pricey especially considering a basic mechanical inspection doesn't include a compression test and it was $250. so, any other places that will check over the car and do a compression test for around $250? on sight or drive in (not too far from mill park (north east)))
  11. get your suspension checked over, wheel balance and alignment. a stock r33 should be fine past 200ks. make sure you have decent tyres of high speeds and decent brakes (good pads and evenly worn discs, good brake fluid). you might think power is more fun but better handling is far more important to get correct, even if it costs a bit. too many people fail to understand this, along with how much good tyres help.
  12. im surprised some of you guys got pwned so hard. while i don't own an import yet, i have been in situations where police have been defecting a few vehicles. at the time, they weren't happy and yet none of the vehicles got done as hard. true, each time they had a lot of cars to check over but some of the stuff like duct tape of wires. also, i know it doesn't really apply to SAU but a friend who owns a cop s13 needed to get a rwc, the law requires the car to be no more then 2 colours

  14. title and subtitle misleading. should say the exact year and model of the car only (doesn't matter if a skyline has a GTR kit if the model is still GTS-T and this car isn't 2006 a liberty). also fails to tell how many kms the engine has done.
  15. a friend bought a VP commo on gas, $40 for 500kms and considering how dirt cheap parts are for commos, seems good. however, finding one is a different matter. i would go r31, petrol wont be perfect but at least its a half decent car.
  16. the explorer has the ability to lock the transmission however im not sure if it does it when cruise control is turned on. normally as soon as the brakes are touched, the cruise control goes off. so, with a heavy and powerful car with cruise control stuck on and no way to put it into neutral (assuming its auto), it would be hard to stop. however, not 30mins to stop. parents own a '04 V8 explorer.
  17. it can mean different things in different contexts. 1: where the car or part is from, usually to establish that it's genuine and not a rip from china. 2: a style, however, JDM itself isn't really style since japan has many different styles, drift, VIP, bosozoku etc. like with everything popular, it is used too often and a lot of people have no idea what it really is but that doesn't reduce how unique and (IMO) good the styles are when done properly.
  18. seen 2 this week, didn't get stopped though. then again, not that i have anything to worry about.
  19. give the dog a buz cut and it ll be fine outdoors. even though, when it's 35c+, then i let my dog inside until it cools down or wash it's head in fresh water, either way, dogs are made for the outdoors.
  20. well, they don't apply now. then again EPA is so strict it doesn't really matter.
  21. errr? didn't you read that fact that i have had enough first hand experience with police to know what the rules are? i don't need to research, i know the laws, you just cant backup your claims.
  22. strange, how no police have never told me that. i have seen heavily modified cars inspected and they didn't talk about such "rules" link me this rule that magically affects me? also, i never said it was legal to drive the r33, i was stating under the old laws, p plates only have p/w restrictions. Same rules apply for all drivers apply for p platers, such as you cant run different turbos, ecus or two intake mods etc. however, as long as you follow EPA and road worthy rules, should be fine.
  23. well, since i still currently drive a VN wagon, there is a noticeable size between that and a stagea. I found rear leg room (im 6'2") in the stagea a bit small and rear boot space is at least 30% less. Im sure a stagea is better to drive however, space wise, the older commodore wagons are bigger.
  24. yes, i have searched and read around the internet and forum however, the problem is i get different opinions. also, i do realize this is a skyline forum, however i need some responses quickly and NS hasn't produced anything. im looking into buying this 1997 ADM S14a that has 160,000kms on the clock. comp test, warm engine and WOT gave: 1: 125 2: 125 3: 130 4: 130 done 2 test drives and the car seems to run well, pulls fine and no sounds in the upper rev range. however, the comp test results hasn't given my huge confidence. for $9k, should i expect such results?
