Leather Gearstick & Handbrake Boots
Jay95R33 replied to Jay95R33's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Cool, Got it -
Dave, I'm a big fan of sticking with the stock BOV as I haven't got any reason for changing it. Although everything mechanical has limits, and I just can't see the stock BOV doing it's job effectivly on a T67 equipped RB25 running 22psi. Bit on an extreme example, but I'm sure you can see what I'm getting at. I'm sure plumb back BOV are still legal ? I'm sure a lot of people are in to much of a hurry to change the stock BOV. But everyone to their own. I personally hate the sound of a BOV, I'm not for the "look at me" thing.. Getting old I htink :headspin: J
-
I agree with you Roy. The more HP then the more air required. And there comes a point where the stock BOV simply can't pass enough air to do it's job correctly. BTW: just bought a new keyboard - pretty flash, but everytime I hit the space bar it clunks really loud.. Just a bit of trivia of you all... LOL J
-
Well not every gear change is done like I'm on the track, it is a daily driver after all But you think about the amount of air the turbo flows/compresses when your under boost at around 4-5000rpm. It's a damn heap of air, and it only takes a fraction of a second to build up against the closed throttle body. Then it has to go somewhere J

Mark, Is it simular to this: http://home.iprimus.com.au/jayson77/r33_pa.../Parts_List.zip This one isn't in word format but is just a heap of GIF files. I'd be VERY keen to have a look at the Word one. If you could email it to me at [email protected] it'd be great. Cheers J

wiring for a R32 GTS-4 manual gearbox
Jay95R33 replied to Mr GTS4's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Spiggot bearing can be got through Nissan spare parts - a mate just bought one and I think it was about $19. -
Oh, that's would be great !!! What sort of $$$ are they talking about for the package (if you don't mind me asking)?

Just as a side note - in some cases not running a BOV can have the same effect as running a venting BOV (on a AFM'd car). Where as the presurised air has now where to go when the throttle snaps shut (but the turbo is still spinning and compressing air), it can actually be blown back out the air filter !! This happend to me when I first got my car and later found that the factory BOV had been blocked off (must have been running an after market one). I could actually hear the air coming back out the pod filter when I came off the throttle while under high boost! And as the AFM will messure air regardless of which direction it is going, it was dumping more fuel in cause it was thinking that the air was going IN through the AFM, not OUT as it was !! This resulted in the occasional stalling problems. I thought the car was fine with the blocked off BOV, until I unblocked it and instantly noticed a smoother and more responsive car !! J

Leather Gearstick & Handbrake Boots

LOL - cool I'll drop you a PM when they are ready to go. Cheers Jayson -
Hmmm, $4k to buy the motor and put it in is a very good deal. I've seen low Km GTR engines sell for around the $5-6k mark !! It's a hard call. You'd have to find out what a rebuild cost on your R33 motor is worth, then weigh it up agains the R34. Also, do you mind having the car off the road for a while while the rebuild goes ahead? The swap would be faster etc... Remember that a rebuild (if done right) will be like a brand spanking new engine and may out perform the R34 motor. Tough call.... J
-
Cool - that's the bad thing about doing mods. One thing leads to another, and then another, and another...... Easy to spend $5k in no time flat.... J
-
It's not the the fact that compressed air is venting that is the issue. But the fact that on AFM equiped cars with venting BOV the A/F mixtures go very rich while the BOV is venting air. This is where some people have problems with back firing and stalling. So it's not the air that's coming out of the BOV that is of concern, but the super rich exhaust fumes. J

Leather Gearstick & Handbrake Boots
Jay95R33 replied to Jay95R33's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
G'day Matt, I'm all out at the moment, although I ordered another hide of leather yesterday which should be here in a few weeks. Once I get the new hide it'll be about a week or two to make them up. Do you mind waiting a few weeks for a brand spanking new set ?? Cheers Jayson -
Yepp, stick with the R33 RB26 unless your R33 motor has thrown a rod or something etc... Then the R34 may be better. I'm pretty sure that the ECU is different. I know that the R33 and R32 PFC are the same, but there is a different model number for the R34 GTR PFC... Maybe this is just for some of the extra displays that the R34 has (the big centre screen thingy) ??

Neil, I think this is a good idea. A few blokes on SAU are using big pumps which wouldn't be helping with fuel heat, especially the people using swirlpots. I remember seeing on TV one night that when they transport and then pump the fuel into the servo's that the fuel needs to be a certain heat so they know excatly how much they are pumping (to charge). Fair enough it's mass volumes, but this leads me to think that fuel density is greatly effected by heat. So I would guess that fuel density changes would have a simular effect on a motor that air density would have !! And we all know that turbo cars hate hot air and mega hot days. I wonder if/how this would effect the tuning ? J

My boot doesn't open from inside the car
Jay95R33 replied to justinfox's topic in General Maintenance
You may have locked the boot from the boot latch (inside the boot). They have this feature so when you give you car to someone else, they can't open the boot without the key. Pop the boot and have a look at the boot latch/locking thingy. You should see a little leaver, just click it the other way it it should work fine. J -
A few of the HKS turbos will bolt up to the stock manifold, although where you will run into problems is with the water/oil lines. 2530 seems to be a great street turbo if your not aiming for big (~240+rwkw) power, or maybe a 2535. Theres a few good threads in the Force Induction section on the 2530 and 2535's. Remembering that a highflow stock item will be a direct replacement with no other modification needed to bolt back on. RB25DET Gearbox Removal
Jay95R33 replied to caminperth's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There's a few tricks to getting the box back in. The first thing I would suggest is to get a input shaft aligning tool. It's just an input shaft that you stick in the clutch that aligns the clutch plate. BTW: most Nissan/Datsun gearboxes use the same size input shaft !! We used a 180B one last time Apart from that, we usually get the box up as close as possible, then get someone to put it in gear, and then get them to put the tailshaft in the box and get them to twist it back and forth while pushing the gearbox in from the rear. One thing to be careful with is the brass ring thing that the input shaft slides into that in the end of the crank ( I forget what it's called). It's easy to stuff up. Oh, and have about 4 x 12 inch long extension bars so you can get the top two gearbox bolts out You'll see them when you tilt the gearbox/motor down towards the back. Oh, and if you have a GTR, the top starter motor bolt SUCKS ASS !!!! J -
The only problem I've heard of is that in some cases the PFC has the option of the boost control kit defaulted to 'ON'. If it's defaulted to ON and you don't have a PFC boost control kit then the car won't start. It's as simple as telling the PFC (through the handcontroller) that you don't have one and it should start. J

R33 GTST Gearbox - sensor plugs
Jay95R33 replied to Bobjones's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hmm, that's strange. It could be a series 2 thing, but I dought it. I've seen these two plugs on 2 x R33 GTS-t's, 1 x R32 GTR, and 1 x R32 GTS4. So my guess is that it's right accross the board of R32 and R33 manuals. One plug would be for the reverse lights, and the other may be a speed sensor ?? I know that the speedo cable is plugged into the rear of the box, so I'm not sure why it would need 2 speed sensors... Maybe an overdrive (5th gear) sensor? Do your reverse lights work?? J -
Picked up a chipped stockie ECU last night
Jay95R33 replied to riggaP's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Nick - Check the MEC number on the main EPROM, if it matches the MEC number on the outside of the ECU then it's stock. J -
Oh you've got to be happy with that !! Looks great. J

This is true, but this is where the problem stands, where the mod may be totally within the EPA/RTA rules, but because the inspecting officer isn't sure if it is OK or not they get hit with a defect. It wouldn't be such a problem if it was just the case of taking your car in to be inspected, but a lot of the time people are getting fines and/or loosing points for it as well - not to mention the cost of having the car inspected. So it's not just the incoveinance of taking it in to be inspected, but it's also a financial incoveinance for (in some cases) the inspecting officer not knowing what is legal and what isn't. J

B-Man, I like your rims the way they are (silver). They look great. If your looking for something to stand out a little, have you thought about painting your calipers gold/bronze ?? J
