8thSIN - it's possible that the suddenly dying bit is caused by the BOV. Venting BOV's will cause the car to stop/die when you go on boost to off boost at lowish RPM's. An example would be if you were accelerating at low RPM with a bit of boost, then suddenly come off the accelerator and press the clutch in. If the BOV isn't ajusted right, it will vent the air causing the mixtures to go mega rich which will cause the engine to stall. And with the clutch pressed in it hasn't got the momentum of the car to keep the engine going. Does that make sense ?? J -

Justin - yepp, everything is fine. For some reason no. 4 inj just stopped working on James' car. It's not clogged or blocked, just not ticking over. The mechanic has never seen it on a GTR, so I'd say it is a manufaturing fault more than anything. PLYNX - yepp, interested. I'd need to see a picture of it and any part number that is stamped on it if that's cool. Cheers J

G'day everyone, A mate is in desperate need of one R32 GTR injector. If anyone has one for sale or can point me in the right direction it'd be great. Thanks Jayson

Alarms: Ultrasonic vs Microwave sensors
Jay95R33 replied to HappyPuppy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Happy, Ultrasonics are more prone to false alarms due to sun/heat etc. Ultrasonics effectivly send out thier ultrasonic waves which bounch off of the interior of the car, they can only monitor the space inside the cabin etc. While microwaves can be set up (dual zone ones) to monitor both inside the car, and also outside the car. With the outside zone, you can set it up (if your good) so it will detect movement 2-3 inches outside the car. so it won't go off if someone walks past the car, but if somebody goes to open the door, puts something on the top of your car, goes up close to the window to look in etc, the alarm will go off. I know that with the old ultrasonics you couldn't leave your window down a few inches to let the air curculate either. Cause it's pick up the hot air movement and set the alarm off. With the microwaves you can leave your window right down and it will make little or no difference. J -
Samc - you wouldn't happen to have a copy of his dyno sheet would you? I'd be interested to see what was gained in the mid range. J

Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge Install
Jay95R33 replied to gts4's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I've got an oil temp gauge in mine (mechanical). It was hard trying to find the right adaptor What I did was I got a brass fitting from VDO that replaces the sump plug, then the temp probe fit's inside the brass fitting. Now the tricky thing was that VDO don't make the correct thread size, so I bought the one that was a little bigger than the stock sump plug (I actually think it came with the gauge) and took it to a mechine show and they cut it down and put the correct thread on the fitting. It worked like a dream. Make sure you get a gauge that has a long enough capilory (the 1.6 metre VDO isn't long enough ). J -
Clutch pedal stiffness

Dan - I would've been tempted to report him for tailgating. I mean it IS illegal to tailgate isn't it? You can't win really, if you would've reported him, then he would've been on your ass about it for the next few months J

R31heaven - you've been thinking the samething I've been thinking for ages !! The amount of times I've been in a Taxi (or seen them drive past) and they are a short bloke that has problems seeing over the dash board let alone seeing over the damn computer that's screw to the top of the dash board is a joke. Anyone who says that they don't block your vision to the road needs to have a good look at some of the taxis going around. The other argument going around about A pillar gauges is that they will cause head injuries in a accident. Well 'if' my head get's past the airbag, I would much prefer to headbutt a (rounded) plastic thing, than headbutt a metal framed square box that has a sheet metal shade cover on the top of it that's sticking out 3 inches !!! Sadly there will always be one set of rules for some, and another set for others.. just my 2c, for what's it's worth

Clutch pedal stiffness
Jay95R33 replied to JH32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Full faced clutches with increased clamping pressure pressure plate is why the clutch is so heavy, although you can get the puk type clutches in the increased clamping rates too. With the 5 or 6 puck clutches they work on the theroy that you has less surface area (clutch) but the same pressure plate, so there is more clamping pressure per square inch of clutch face. That's why most of the puk clutches feel stock but bite better. Full faced (up rated pressure plates) are a little easier to drive (puks tend to hate it when you ride them) but you have to put up with the heavy peddal. BTW - flat 5's is a nice time. J -

Clutch pedal stiffness
Jay95R33 replied to JH32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Damn you r clutch must be heavy !! I think you could try one of two things. Get the bracket made from thick stainless steel. Or, have you ever had a good look at a master cyclinder on a R32 GTR ?? They are power assisted and work on the same principle of the power brakes assist etc. It's a plate of about 10-15mm that sits between the master cyclinder and the firewall, has a vacume line etc. You may need to get the master cyclinder off a R32 GTR as well to get it to fit, and maybe a few other parts. But it might be worth while looking into. They work pretty good to. Pressing the clutch in while the motor is off compared to when it's on you can feel a big difference. J -
How to change colour of Dash light?
Jay95R33 replied to Eav00l's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
A mate has had the bulbs changed in his car and it looks great. Basically it looks totally stock when the lights are out. But at night when you turn the lights on, everywhere on the dash where it's normally white light, it turns to blue. Looks very good and is easy on the eyes at night. J -
GTR Fuel Pump into GTSt - Should it be so loud ??
Jay95R33 replied to Mr Rb20's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That's strange. I can't hear the fuel pump in my mates R32 GTR (they are the same pumps as the R33 GTR's).. Maybe they have different (rubber) mounts to stop the noise? J
