Damn that would be a beast. Done any 1/4 mile runs or 0-100 runs? How did you go about getting the stock ECu remapped? Is it a Mines chip or custom? J
-
Yepp, it's farkoostited... Any damage to the side wall usually means you need to replace it. I hit a kirb years ago and it egged up a little. No much really, so I thought I'd wait until I could afford it. Bad idea !!!! It blew out on me. Damn loud when they go to. I needed a new pair of undies that day. I thought a pimp had cruised past and done a drive-by shooting !!

No offence dude, but this is the worst thing that you could do. WD40 will wash all the grease out of the thrust bearing, and within a few days/week the bearing will be running dry !! the first few days it will be quiet, but after that..... Not a good thing. The only way to fix it is to drop the box and repack, or even better, get a new thrust bearing.

Guys, That pchu pchu pchu sound is not good for your turbo. It's called compressor stall. Basically when you block off the BOV the turbo compresses the air and when you come off the throttle the pressurises it so much that it is forced to come back throught the turbo (in the wrong direction!!) and out the AFM !! This why the car is stalling. When the air comes back out the AFM, the AFM messures the air again (the AFM does know which way the air is flowing, it just messures anything that goes through it) and then pumps more fuel in for the extra air flow. So much more fuel that the car stalls at idle. Unblock the BOV - I know it sounds cool cause mine was blocked when I bought it, but it's not a good thing. J

Ummm, two bolts down the bottom - damn tight. Two bolts up the top - pretty tight.. I'm not sure on torque setting etc, but because they are a major part of the car and that use high tensile bolts, you can get them pretty damn tight without worring about stripping a thread. J

PLEASE HELP! Problems with boost.
Jay95R33 replied to Ethan_R32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Andrew, I can't find that thread on SDU Had a good look, but nothing... I'm pretty sure it has somthing to do with the ECU retarding timing and/or boost due to slight pinging. Try to resist giving it a bootfull for a few days and see if it'll still bost to 1.2 bar, and see what it does after that. Or try a bottle of the pro booster octane stuff in the tank. That might fix it.. J -
I'll be changing mine in a few months. It should be pretty easy. Easier than my old TX5 that we changed the suspension on. About the tension on the spring. You can take the whole shockand spring out together as one assembly, so you won't loose the tension on the spring. But to get the spring off of the shock once they are out of the car you've got to use spring compressors to squeeze the spring down while you undo the top nut on the shock. Otherwise you'll shoot the nut through the roof/your eye/the closest window and you'll probabaly take your fingers off, as well as never find the nut again From experiance the two bolts that hold the strut to the car will be stupidly tight, so you'll have to use good qual tools, some WD40, and maybe a long (4 foot) extension bar to give you enough leverage. All fun J

PLEASE HELP! Problems with boost.
Jay95R33 replied to Ethan_R32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
G'day Andrew. I remember reading a thread on SDU about this exact thing. Someone's GTR would run at 1.2 bar for 5 mins and then wouldn't go past .9 bar. I can't remember what the problem was (I'll do a search tomorrow - too damn late now) but I think it might have had something to do with heat build up and then the ECU retarding timing and boost maybe..... But I can't be 100% sure. Do you have a EBC of some sort, or are you running it without the restrictor in to get the higher boost? J -
Standard Shocks - People who know/have them HELP!!
Jay95R33 replied to Jay95R33's topic in General Maintenance
Thanks heaps guys - your life savers :uh-huh: :uh-huh: Just got to buy two more rubber bushes from Nissan (about $3 each) and then I'll be ready to look for some springs. Oz Elite - nope, not me. I'm further down But it's more the right height that is a bit of a pain. The GTR front is really low, even with the car only 20mm lower than stock it's still only just legal..... And if I wind the springs up on the JIC's it's just going to stiffen the ride up more. The JIC's would be great if your front spoiler doesn't come down as low as the GTR one does, or you didn't mind your car sitting at 10.5cm.. Maybe I'm getting too old?? LOL So I'm going for stock shocks with 10mm lower progressive rate springs. It'll raise the car by 10mm and give this old man a boat like ride J -

Standard Shocks - People who know/have them HELP!!
Jay95R33 replied to Jay95R33's topic in General Maintenance
And in this picture all the bits are lined up in the order they are mounted - if it helps any.... Also (numb nut question of the day) the front and rear shocks are different sizes. Are the short shocks the front or the rear??? Thanks J -
I need some help. I've got some stock R33 GTS-t suspension which were missing a few bits. Now I think I've got all the bits but I need to make sure I've assembled all the bits right !! I don't want to put them in the car only to find out they knock and rattle cause I didn't assemble them right If someone that has seen, or has stock shocks on their R33 GTS-t that can confirm the way they are put together, can have a look and see if it's right. In this pic it's all assembled the way I think it should be !!

Easy stuff. Have a look on www.vcdhelp.com Go to their 'tools' area. Download the freeware version of TMPGCnc and also get the plugin for MOV files (also freeware). Load it up and away you go. It'll let you convert MOV files to MPG. Cheers J

Pretty sure it's 4 channel as it has speed sensors on all four wheels and heaps of seperate pipes coming from the cotrol doova in the engine bay. I've only used mine twice - once was to brake hard and swerve to miss a car that pulled out (it worked a treat that time), and the other time was in the rain when I stompped on the brakes a bit hard. I found it was fast to react and worked well, but then again, this is the first ABS'd car I've driven.... J
-
Yepp - Phil is spot on there. Seat belts would've/should've been changed. A quick way of checking the date of manufacture is to look at the date on the vacume hose going to the brake booster thingy on the left hand side of the engine bay (standing at the front of the car looking in). But the only true way is to get the VIN number and check through Nissan some how. J

Recommend a 33 front bar that's nice and high???
Jay95R33 replied to T0nyGTSt's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
LOL - yeah, if your worried about being too low, don't get a GTR front bar. I've got a GTR front bar on mine, and with the car being only 20mm lower than standard, the front bar height is only JUST legal at a height of 105mm (10.5cm). I'm in the process of getting parts together to raise my car by 10mm and softening it up a little. I'm going with standard shocks with 10mm lower progressive rate springs. Once they are in my JIC adjustable coilovers will be up for sale J -
This is a very sad day. I heard it on the way to work this morning R.I.P Barry. A true legend..

New GTR on the way, a few questions.

Andrew - Man, I just noticed this thread !! Congratulation on the GTR, looks damn DAMN nice. Very clean, and with 243rwkw to boot You've got to love ATTESA, I've felt it in a mates GTS4-t and it's amazing. Oh BTW: the R32 GTR ECU's can be remapped. Could be worth while looking into if your not going to be adding mods all the time, otherwise save up your bikkies and get a PFC. Well done. J -
LOL - that's funny. Yeah, out in fyshwick there damn porno places everywhere !! I didn't go to this years Skyfire. Had too much on already so something had to give. Canberra is the round-a-bout capital. They are everywhere. They are real fun, but you find that your left front tyre always wears more on the outside edge Yepp, drop me a SMS or call when your next down - no. is 0414 707 105. Cheers J
-
Jimbo, Yeah I must say that the Police around Canberra are pretty good and fairly friendly. Basically if your not driving like an idiot, or got a wheel hanging off, they'll leave you alone. I work right next door to a major police station and drive past them at least twice a day and they don't even think twice. The only time I've been pulled over in the Skyline in the last two years was 3 days after a bought it, and that was because I didn't have a front number plate on. No defect, he just said to takeit over the pits and get the rego changed over into my name. Man - you should have let me know that you were comming down, we could've met up and gone for a quick cruise.. Next time.. J
-
G'day, Do you have any pics of the Nismo front bar indicators??? Are they the round ones like the 400R bar, or the ones with the inserts for the GTR bar?? J

Jay95R33 replied to benm's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Don't worry Ben, you'll get used to it. Take it easy for the first 500-1000km to let it bed in a bit, then you'll be right. It's a big change though, I'd say your stock one was slipping a bit and that's why it felt really smooth and easy. J -
LOL - yeah, I wasn't sure what the stock size was (too lazy to go outside and have a look )
