My car was finished compliance on the 5th of December, which is when the paperwork was sent off to Canberra I believe. So I've been waiting about a month now. I wonder when the plate making place opens after xmas. Starting to get sick of waiting!

Well I called Famous and they have clarified their position on this. That clause basically only refers to parking on the street at your residence. Parking late at night when you go out to the movies etc, or even if you had to park it overnight at a motel or something is OK, as long as you're not parking it outside your house on the street every night. I spoke to Robyn and she checked with a manager about this as well to be sure.

My apologies 200sx, you are correct. I received my policy in the mail this morning and it does have that condition on it. I will be ringing them tomorrow for an explanation.

How long ago was this? It might have been before they started insuring imports on a large scale like they are now. I spoke to Robyn about this clause and she said that they hadn't used it for ages and it definately wouldn't be on my policy. I should receive it in the mail soon and I'll let you know!

I thought you had to get the plate at the very start, in order to get import approval. Then the import approval allows you to bring the car into the country. Once the car is complied and approved by the engineer, you then send off this approval and get the compliance plate stamped in canberra?

This is absolutely false. That is a condition they can place on your policy if your car is like a ferrari or something. It is not automatically the case. It is listed at the end of the policy document under conditions that COULD be placed on your policy. Ring them and ask if you don't believe me.

Well I just took out a policy with Famous today. They beat Just Cars by like $450 and Robyn there was very friendly as well. Hopefully I won't be able to tell you what they're like for claims, if you know what I mean!

Good luck! However, I don't think Famous are really into insuring people with bad history. That's what Just Cars is all about, they just make you pay for it!

Nope that is incorrect. That's only if they decide to put that on your policy. I spoke to Robin about that specific condition and she said they haven't used that for ages, and it's only if that is placed on your policy (so you would know about it!).

Btw, anyone who is thinking of importing or compliancing, definately check out Ultimate Performance Imports. They go the extra mile and really worked to get me what I wanted (see above pic!). It's rare these days that you get good service, so I always reward it when it happens. It should be on the road next week! Woohoo! :burnout:

I rang up to get a proper quote from Famous today, and I spoke to Robyn who was very friendly. She beat the quote I got from Just Car (after I told her it), so I think I will go through them!

Likewise! Even if you do have a sunroof . You do have sideskirts though, lucky bastard! I'm getting them fitted while waiting for my plate to arrive. Can't believe they were an option.
