Well I figure its about time I did a little update on the R30 I brought 6months or so back. Im not posting any photos yet as I want to do a before and after piece. however I have since getting it done the following.. -stripped and replaced the interior and fitted recaro seats -added gauges oil, water, volts -fitted blitz SBC ID 2 boost controller -facelift front, all but the bonnet -fitted 17” original goods wheels -exhaust changed 3’ right through -new intake and filter -stripped all sound deadening all 32.3kgs worth! -fitted genuine mirrors -fitted R32 brakes (still figuring out the best option for tie rods) -s13 coilovers front -r33 coilovers rear -10mm rear wheel spacers (when you see pics you will understand) -standard side skirts fitted -two tone paint Also on the weekend I did a dyno day just thought id see how she was going.. Now the engine is 2.2ltr has forged pistons a full metal head gasket plus a Vg30 turbo with large intercooler a bosch 650hp fuel pump and a mines computer it has standard injectors.. It made 171.5rwkw@ 14.3 psi but was starting to lean so it could not run higher than that the tuner said with bigger injectors it would easily go way past there saying it felt very strong.. How ever im happy with this power for now it wont put the power to the road until 3rd anyway and am running 235s! Marc

FJ20DR30 replied to ydr030's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
im about to do this setup for my r30 i used to work at pedders and still have access to a large number of different tie rod ends and steering arms the only thing i can think of is to get a longer tie rod that can have a spacer put between the tie rod and the hub where it mounts lowering the arm a little im sure i can find something that will work? pics of what you have would be great -

Aussie R31 Front Sway Bar
FJ20DR30 replied to Ghostrider's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
road car here mate.. and im aware that cazzs car has the body mounted cage and mch extra body work. but look around the curcits.. not at dad and daves back yard racers.. But proper race cars. many rear drive cars run soft rear ends. but again im not even begining to pretend i know what im on about but im going to try it out.. that and with the factory bar .. my car has eurathane through out but id prefer rubber i think.. Marc im aware its hard core for road but i dont care -
Aussie R31 Front Sway Bar
FJ20DR30 replied to Ghostrider's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Very interesting D, keep us posted on how it goes, my set up will be the whiteline bar adjustiable 27mm, tien s13 coilovers with r32 gtr brakes 350lb springs and adjustiable caster rods... for the rear though im going to down a different track and run no rear swaybar and re valved r33 front coilovers in the rear.. yes they fit and are good with short 250lb rear springs.. the rear end i think will be to stiff with stiff shocks and springs, power to the road is key i noticed the gibson cars ran no swaybars.. Aussie R31 Front Sway Bar
FJ20DR30 replied to Ghostrider's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
What size front will you use for yor race car? white line do a 27mm adjustiable for the R31 should be an ideal bar for an r30 race application ?? its 2mm thicker than used on the gibson cars but in saying that its adjustiable meaning the soft setting may just be about spot on -
how much for the dash with air con and gauge cluster surrounds and 2 inside door leaver surrounds ? thanks, marc
-
well the scrub radius is the line from the top pivot point ie the strut top mount and the bottom pivot point ie bottom ball joint and where that line will meet the road compared to a line through the centre of the tire to the ground, this is to give you steering feel, if the top mount is standard and the bottom ball joint has moved out it will effect this, however it could be a good effect so thats why i ask? if you have plenty of road feel through the wheel it must be working well.
-
Hey Daewoo, about lengthening your bottom arms.. i saw this in a previous post as well and wanted to ask how much by and with the track change what effect did it have on steering feel? i assume it would effect scrub radius? Marc
-
hey Simon working as a car importer myself for neally 10 years i hope i can atleast throw some advice in here lol if you can comply and register it you will be able to move it easier my guess is that it is between 7-10k if registered. it looks like a clean genuine car so that will help it, its not going to move quick unless its cheap as it is still an old car classic or not. also as i am sure that you will be aware presentation will also help. Marc
-
a quick note (not sure if it helps) alot of r30 series skylines have spring loaded ball joints. so if they have been tested by compressing them they will move up and down this is normal! so make sure your tester does them properly up and down play is fine when compressed, however when leaverd upward they should stay in place. to id a spring loaded ball joint you will see a bulb shape that pertrudes from the arm directly below the ball joint. just in case yours are fine, hope it may help.

im pretty sure i have one lying around somewhere ill have a look! marc

Cheers guys.. i dont think the turbo with the chip will be any good as that still means a rebuild really?? tell me more about that second turbo? the upgaded one? my car is a 2.2 stroker with with forged pistons etc i think it should be ok to go bigger??.... as for the oil return from the tappet cover this might be the issue?? ill check that out! however the guys at nisco said to me they thought it was a turbo leak? thanks
-
Hey Guys i need a little info and a turbo (maybe) 1st things first, does anyone have a good Vg30 turbo for sale? my is leaking oil into the front cover and wont pass its road worthy in vic, and or is it cheaper to rebuild? or does someone have something bigger that will bolt in place with no mods? im thinking about cost here really.. i need something cheap even if someone has a good vg30 nugget and i can use my housings.. Cheers for help with that. and second can someone tell me more about fitting a gts25t gear box to an fj20et skyline? mainly do i need a different clutch and flywheel? iv heard speak of it being almost a direct fit if you remove some one or two of the engine/box locator studs??? Cheers for you help as always guys Marc

FJ20DR30 replied to Factory 5's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
id say they are +15ish, mine are and the sit just like that -
lol i was not born yesterday.. but thanks for your imput its cheap but from Garret direct so cheap because there is no middle man, thing is they have to be ordered in such a way to still look like its a part for a hyandai digger so there for im looking for a good size from a digger that will suit the car. if not no big drama..

hey here for interests sake are some pictures of my Dr30 track car in the build! still a long way off but its taking shape! note the engine has been moved back about an 15-20cms and is about 5-10cm lower in the chassis i hope this helps with weight balance??? engine normal engine back
