  2. Thanks for the help. After weighing up the options I've decided I'm a data-junkie so will go with the performance-box for Google-Earth-Import action. Can't see it being of any real value but looks cool As long as the lap times are pretty accurate and are readable on-screen, then the rest (including split times, data logging etc) is a nice-to-have bonus. $AUD is good too

  4. thanks for the help guys. I jacked it yesterday using the crossmember as the jackpoint and stands under the camber bushes. not sure they are mean to take any load (ie I'm pretty sure they're not!) but unless the jack fails there is minimal load on them anyway. happy car: cheers!

Hi again, I know this is a bit of a amateur-hour question, but can someone give me guidance on where to put the jack-stands when lifting the front of the car, assuming the jack will be lifting from the cross member? On the S15 I could jack and stand from the sills without any problem, but either the GTR is just plain heavier or the sills are softer - every time I touch them with a jack they sound like they are made of brie cheese.   6. Hi, Can anyone recommend a workshop that will happily machine a set of two-piece slotted rotors? I have heard before that some places don't have the right tools to deal with slotted rotors. Will the fact that they are two-piece be a problem for anyone? Ideally they would be close the CBD (eg wheelworx?) or inner north. Cheers
  7. First time I did one Dean opened up the S15 and gave it 110%. Showed me what it was capable of in competent hands! Still miss it Hi Kim, after a bit of back-and-forward (was originally going to do the monday session with a mate but he has pulled out) I'm in for the wednesday. can you please send me a copy of the PDF form and I'll fill-in and send off to JB asap. Still don't know - I like all the extra data logging and mapping stuff that comes with the performancebox over the mychron, although it's all totally unnecessary so is knowing the lap time, so might as well! Will do some more research on the HarrysLapTimer option with a GPS cradle...
  9. cool thanks. I understand the GSR/EVO track timing is done using the mychrons - the one i used was one SAU borrowed from them for the trackday back in April.

Hi, I am looking at getting a lap timer for the GTR for trackdays, sprints etc - I get sick of waiting for the official times to be posted, often hours/days after the actual lap, and so its difficult to feedback into improving times. I'm not a pro racer or anything but have recently become OCD about shaving those hundredths off my PB I've had a look at the Performance Box and used a borrowed mychron at a recent trackday which are GPS and beacon respectively. I've also tried the "Trackday" iPhone app which on my old 3G was absolutely useless. I'm leaning towards the mychron, but was wondering what experiences you guys have had with these or any other lap timing devices in the same price range (eg $500-900?). Are they usefully accurate? Are beacon timers more accurate than GPS-based ones? What would you recommend if price is no object? or what's best bang for buck? (ps yes have used search and found references to the above but nothing definitive) Cheers
  11. yeah that's a fair bit lighter than the full trim 32gtr - 1460 + 90 kilos of meat behind the wheel + 40kg of fuel = 1590kg. my typical session would be 1 out + 5 flying laps @ ~1:22 = 6m50 at full sprint pace, A048s hold their own over that distance, Toyos might not like the extra 330kgs still, when the a048s run out i'll be looking around for something else so might see if the harder 888 compound suits.

Yeah what i have heard about the toyos is that they are softer, so good for light cars, out laps or short motorkhanas and hill climbs, but go off quickly after multiple laps in a heavy car (eg a GTR ). Ive got no direct experience in that though so could be totally wrong. As a matter of interest how much does your car weigh?
  13. pretty good but they're the only semis I've had on the GTR. I had RE55s on the S15 which I felt were much grippier, but the S15 is 200kg lighter and RWD so difficult to compare directly. If I had a choice I'd go RE55s next, but need to get a spare set of rims first as the RE55s aren't DOT approved. A048s are $100/corner cheaper though. I'm running a nistune and have the ecutalk LCD running off the consult port. For anyone running a nissan ecu I reckon it is a great little unit - max-value storage and over-limit alarming for most parameters like injector %, water temp, rpm, AFM Voltage etc. The guy who makes them is working on in-built data logging to the microSD card, currently you need to plug a laptop into the USB port for logging. For the price I think they are excellent trackday diagnostic tool, but there's a few things it doesn't have that would be good - boost, oil temp & oil pressure (not available from the Nissan ECU) and intake air temp (in the ECU for GTR but not used by ecutalk) Max vals from one of the Skynats sessions: Well that makes more sense! and man that is fast! Maybe rolling diameter might be some of the difference between GPS and ECU indicated speeds? thanks for the comps guys I must say after switching from the S15 I am loving my GTR too!
  14. just to add my 2c to the speedo, my ecu reports 194-198km/h top speed on the kink, depending on how well I exit the southern hairpin and how late I brake. Haven't yet cracked the 200, interesting that the R35 hits about the same, but given I'm doing 1:21's not 1:12's I'm guessing the R35 kisses 200 before the kink rather than at terminal velocity into the northern hairpin? For sake of comparing apples and oranges, the car is a BNR32 with 285kw on A048 semis.
