  1. Sounds like it was your choice to blow your engine then. Det is what kills engines...
  2. He knows his stuff, but it's a hobby for him these days, and his work comes first. It can make him difficult to contact. What fuel were you running?
  3. Bosch make the ID1300's though. I spoke with the wholesaler when I found out about the new 1400 stainless internal injectors coming out onto the market. They are a Delphi version of the ID ones. They were designed for the V8 supers, as ID have a contract with Bosch not to sell directly. Delphi are also spending a lot of coin lately on ethanol injector research, the most important of which is a controlled heated tip injector, designed to pre-heat the fuel as you crank for cold start. It should negate the need for cold start enrichment entirely, and allow instant starts in subzero conditions. I have politely asked their Brazilian connections if we can have this technology installed into the 1400's, hopefully something comes of it as I really chug through the fuel on cold start/running.
  4. I think 40 degrees normally on the VQ35, but Nismo released a 50 degree advance mechanism. Not sure which one the HKS kit used. They are hydraulically actuated, but here is an electrically operated clutch arrangement on the VQ25 that could be retrofitted easier perhaps...
  5. I have a few spare VQ25det manifolds here... Save your coin and build the motor instead, or just run it on e85 and crank the boost up.
  6. Tuning the car will scrape back some of the lost lag, sometimes 500-1000 revs, while increasing the power. It can make the car feel much lighter and more responsive.
  7. I would offer to help, but I have no idea where you are located James. You need to get it on a Consult 3, even the above procedure doesn't work often to reset the light, and the code is still logged in the ecu.
  8. WTF? Damn shame Platts. Didn't bend the turbo did it?
  9. Massive torque doesn't come free.
  10. Don't send anyone else there Peter, it will take even longer to get my Evo engine back together. What suburb are you in Thomas? And what work were you after?
  11. Plugs are fouled. You will likely need to replace them.
  12. There is nearly 1000 revs of response in it from my experience, between off and running cvt, and my VQ engine only runs variable intake, just like the Vcam.
  13. Thanks for the plug. This is something I learnt the hard way. These barges are very lethargic off the line if you can't build boost on stall.
  14. The Xspurts definitely come in 44mm 1000cc. As they are the same price as the 750's I would just go the 1000's. I saw a set of 1000's maxed out at 330wkw the other day on an auto RB28. It's not something you want to deal with twice... Side feed injectors were good in their day, better than the low impedance 11mm top feeds anyway, but they are well past their used by date. Even the EV14's have been superseded by the new stainless internals ethanol/methanol compatible injectors now on the market. Looking forward to pics of the GTT rail install, it is going to be the best of both worlds, stock looking and 14mm top feed so there are a heap of injector choices.
  15. That would make the piston in the BOV very slow to react, and could quite easily cause the stutter and flutter we are seeing. Good find.
  16. It's a fairly comprehensive kit, it comes with an Fcon etc but not cheap. http://www.nengun.com/hks/v-cam-system-step-1-a-b Looks like it's all but discontinued now. As you can see, there are a lot of parts in there, but you only need a few of them really. VCT would be even easier to retrofit I guess, and a lot easier to control.
  17. Agreed, I would build a 30 bottom end, and slap a Neo head on it.
  18. If you could find one of the old HKS single kits that were discontinued, they would be your best bet. Mine craps all over it flow wise, but I would need the car here to fabricate it. Otherwise, get into the fabrication forum and ask around, I am sure someone can help you. I could make some parts for you and ship them up worst case. It's very tight up there, but a single turbo hidden under the head low mounted is pretty low key. Send me a PM if you would like to see photos of my creation, even if it just gives you ideas...
  19. They are not 'bypassing' it, the fuel pump control module is energising the new power relay. If you bypass the fpcm your pump will never turn off, which is very dangerous in an accident.
  20. Same way, usually with an external oil feed. The HKS Vcam setup is similar, just using a VQ35 variable actuator and external feed line.
  21. Agreed, either a wreck, or Amayama would be your cheapest option.
  22. For an engine worth $200, and it comes with a free Micra, you seem overly worried to blow it up... Don't listen to your pommy Micra poof mates, they don't know squat about ethanol/e85. Send me the link to your thread so I can teach them a thing or two.
  23. If the BOV's are opening on boost I would be checking the vac hose that actuates them. There should be boost pressure holding them shut.
  24. Funny, that's what I said.
  25. All of it. Then rip skids. Rebuild the engine, then do it all again. It's the only way to learn your lesson.
