Timing needs to be set correctly, and high octane fuel used, just retarding the timing to use lower octane will result in overboost, as the fuel is burning in the turbo.

Cheap Insterstae Couriers For Car Parts
scotty nm35 replied to danny14's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Definitely E-Go, especially if you can drop it off at a Depot. -
Yerp, I know that from personal experience... Stock VQ's don't like 50+ psi apparently. A set of ARP or oversized bolts and a new MLS head gasket should have you up and running again, unless it leaned out severely...

All the bloody time.

Good you found a decent fabricator to repair it, but I have seen many Stagea's and none have ever had that issue. The shocks were installed too short, it's the only way it could pull the stud through, as the spring tension is working against it. Hopefully it doesn't happen again...

Sounds like the throttle body needs a clean, be very careful not to touch the throttle plate though. Have you checked the plugs?

Swap A Vq25Dd For A Vq35De
scotty nm35 replied to Hunter_in_a_V35_250GT's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
As far as this thread goes, there has been no abuse hurled, what's your damn problem? We were only offering advice like you asked for... And it has all been asked before. I fix these cars for a living, and yet here I am, helping an ungrateful V35 owner yet again... -
Turbosmart Kompact Bov For Nm35
scotty nm35 replied to parraboi's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I will take it. -
Magnaflow is unfortunately the best option imo. Speak to Chris at Best Mufflers, tell him Scotty sent you. Keep in mind he's a V8 guy, doesn't like turbo cars much. Perhaps ask him if he can drop the whole system and clean it up internally with the die grinder. It's what should have been done when it was made, but no-one cares what the inside looks like, do they...
-
Good vid though, shows most of the problems every skyline owner runs into chasing power. Just be glad there are so many more bolt-on products available now, and better fuel with e85...
-
So this is the turbo I bought for my 2.3 stroker evo Stao? I was hoping for a little more than that...

Unless there is something we can't see, like a piece of metal welded poorly inside the exhaust, it won't be your issue. We can debate it as much as you like Ron, but you could have dropped 2 bolts, seriously less than a minute, and you would have known if it was a problem or not on the dyno. There are a few issues that can limit power like that and jumping to conclusions won't fix any of them. Get it back on the dyno, (make sure you have the cam timing checked first) drop the exhaust during the run, if that fails change the cas on the spot.
-
Well the zorst looks fine, as long as the rear muffler isn't stepped down to 2.5 inch. Can you shine a torch up there and make sure?
-
Gay bokka. lol. It is a 100 cell cat with a 5 inch body, the metal cats are all much the same construction wise, there is no way it would be a restriction unless the core has shifted, which would be fairly obvious if you dropped two bolts. I still think it's the cas, but out of interest, do you have a pic of the gate etc?
-
Sounds like the cas issues Tony was having in his 34gtt. Why randomly pick the exhaust to be at fault without testing it?
-
^^ this. How can they say the cat is a restriction without dropping the exhaust in sections? I ran 310kw with the same cat, I don't think it would be holding you back too much, but who knows...

Humming Diff On V35 5At
scotty nm35 replied to diffuzn's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
There are bearings inside the diff too you realise, it could be a cheap fix if you haven't left it long. -
Forced Performance Hta Turbos
scotty nm35 replied to 34GeeTeeTee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have seen a few attempts of low mounted aftermarket manifolds, but I feel there just isn't enough room under the heat shield to do it justice. The stock manifold isn't too bad, even with the gate off the housing, as long as you run ethanol to control the det and exhaust temps. There just aren't that many high end results yet, as most guys still think you need to upgrade to 6boost for 300kw. -
So bump another in there, or control the top port. Easy fixed.

Forced Performance Hta Turbos
scotty nm35 replied to 34GeeTeeTee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I want to see what the stock manifold can flow. Why not use it? As long as it's externally gated it should work well. Perhaps restricting a little flow, but $1500 for a manifold just to gain some top end isn't always value, especially in Victoria the nanny state. -
Agreed. The Japs love using Helmholtz chambers, and they work very well from my experiences with them, but they need to be tuned to the frequency you want to remove, which can add a fair amount of R+D to a custom exhaust. I think the active exhaust is a much better option, especially if Vac actuated. Unfortunately no-one wants to spend that kind of coin, and good quality vac operated valves aren't cheap. Here is my attempt, made from scratch.

No, you just need to sort out your boost control. Shouldn't be too difficult to work out. Just slapping an electronic controller won't make a 4psi spring hold 30psi, you need to first match your spring to be close to your desired output, then the controller might have a fighting chance of holding what you set it at. If that fails, you need to hold the gate shut using pressure to the top port on the gate. You would need to swap to a 4 or 5 port MAC valve to do this properly, simply cut the old solenoid out and solder the MAC in it's place.

850Cc Vs 1000Cc Deatsch Werks
scotty nm35 replied to Captain Wow's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I can easily beat those prices Lance. Is yours a Neo engine? If so the Xspurt 55mm injectors will work great, I also make my own plug adapters so they just drop in. I will PM you some prices if you like. I would go with the 1000's personally, seeing you are upgrading from 550's. -
The only side feeds I can get are the 550's, as that's the largest they made from the factory. Anything larger is a 'highflowed' injector, essentially drilled out. Top feed rail and Xspurt 1000's are an easy upgrade, and would cost around the price of the FiveO injectors alone. Local warranty can come in very handy too, it can cost more than the injector is worth to send it back for warranty replacement.

I just don't get why people think the VQ37 is a lesser engine to the VR38. It has a much more impressive head/cam design with constantly variable intake exhaust and lift. The much simpler VR38 is essentially a stroked VQ35 with egr. Same thing I see with the RB26, just because it's in a 'GTR' it must smash all the competition. Well imo the RB26 is a crappy old engine designed in WW2 for Jap tanks. Love them all you like, nothing can change that fact.
