Replaced Both Valve Cover Gaskets Today
scotty nm35 replied to Vimana's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
The valve cover gaskets are around $25 each but you cant change the seal around the plug tube, only the rubber seal around the outside. Why did you use silicone though? -
M35 Stagea - Wrecking Whole Car
scotty nm35 replied to chadsta's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
How much are you asking? Sounds like a nice ride, perhaps you should come for a spin in mine and see what the little VQ is capable of. I cant think of a better car, perfect mix of power and practicality with a stealth Lolvo exterior. What is it you think would make a better ride? -
Of course mate, the closest contender retired as his Cosworth 30k engine was running stoich at wot. Why are the manifolds an issue Zebra? HKS thought they were good enough for their 350z 3037 kits... I would love to design some killer manifolds one day but I may have to go twins and rwd before then. The box can't handle much more torque than i'm currently throwing at it, Kewish Auto said it MAY handle 250kw if i'm lucky. lol. Looks like i'm just a lucky f*kr.
-
The stock block can handle 45psi apparently as my controller hoses blew of a few times... Alex is right, its the torque that kills rods, and our engine turns out a crapload once tuned. You would need to be putting out 400kw for the stall converter lockup to slip, mine is slipping due to the 30% torque gains from the e85. Leave it stock until there is an issue or your car gets too laggy to drive. By the way I always drive in manual or the revs aren't high enough to get the power hit. The damn gearbox always wants to be in top gear and 2k revs.
-
Still rear drive, I need to find time to drop the engine and fit the 3.5:1 front diff but there is always another Stagea in the way. lol.

Thanks Dale.

Just got back from the Liberty club dyno day at Edge Motorworks, i'm buggered after strapping 23 awd cars down to the dyno but what a great day. Anyway, my winning result was 341.1kw at around 23psi, just shy of my 350kw goal. Cihan (my tuner) decided not to push it further as the compressor was out of flow again and he doesn't want to see me brake it for no reason. Very happy with the result though, its unbelievable to drive and it's a stupidly responsive turbo for the power output. Also good to hear that the Edge dyno is comparable in output to many of the other local tuning shops. Shame I didn't get the torque graph, you can plainly see the compressor flow dropping off as efficiency goes out the window.

Looks like they want it in every United servo down here... -
Guilt-toy Now Running On E85 !

Its an impressive list now, especially if you add in the Caltex stations. Don't rub it in though, the interstate guys will get all jelly. -
Yellow M35 At Auction Sydney?
scotty nm35 replied to whitestag's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Not sure, I haven't seen the pics yet buddy. He was after good coin for it though... Anyone else seen a good engine floating about? -
Ahh, the holy grail of turbo's. This core on petrol should run around 270kw, any more would require the next size up blades but you reach a point where the rear housing cant flow that much exhaust, and bigger wheels wont improve the output a great deal. Beyond this turbo you would need to go down the High-stall converter path to reduce the effects of the lag. Its a fine balancing act, this one just seems to work perfectly with the stock converter while still making the power. If you want more power than that, buy my setup.

White M35 was me, I wasn't sideways in the wet was I? Shocking weather for a RWD turbo. Gotta get that front diff back in... Where were you hiding Jai? Didn't see you.
-
The Supra in twin sequential form can reach 300wkw but the graph isn't that great, there is a big drop off in power as the first turbo runs out of puff, switches over the exhaust valve and has to spool the larger turbo. Works well though... I guess with less lag you could run a larger turbo = farkn great. The motor only needs to help the exhaust spin it up earlier as they would both work together.
-
The only hassle is the rare earth magnets don't like heat, it would have to be in front of the compressor to cool well enough I think.
-
The earlier 32 and 33 brakes had a 12mm bolt, from the 34 onward Nissan used a 14mm bolt so you will need to put a sleeve around the 12mm bolt to space it out to the 14mm hole if you use the older front brakes.
-
Nice, are they the same as the VQ35 ones? Did he mention a price?
-
Nice job supporting the front there Stao, I doubt it will be able to sustain much boost but it could supply a turbo intake with plenty of airflow, should work nicely bolted to the 33. If only you could get it inside the chra, it would be a good pre-spool device for short bursts...

Guilt-toy Now Running On E85 !
scotty nm35 replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Oh, I thought the test kits were showing 90%, good its consistent as I just tuned another map for it. Smells better too. -
Custom piping would have been easier, or rotating the housing if possible to help fit the stock pipes? I don't think bending the strut brace will help much. lol.
-
Why 50/50? how far away is Warwick from you? (or is there a Caltex up there?) You will see better gains from just running United e90 with none of the cold start issues we see down here... You should come close, perhaps around 4200 revs? That's my guess.
-
Its a Dominator custom stall converter, it flares to around 3k when stopped but flares to 4k once boost kicks in (as the revs they stall to is largely torque dependent) The issue is the lockup clutch is too small though, not the stator itself as its a 5 axis billet unit and should be bullet proof. Not sure yet if I should get another converter made or just cut this one up and get more clutch plates fitted...

I was seeing over 300kw in 4th at speed cut which I guess was around 5000 revs. Once I wire the SLD and get rid of speed cut again I will be able to see the outcome of my fine tuning. The MAC wastegate solenoid is working a treat now, it held a flat 25psi from what I could see. I will ramp it up on the weekend during the next run.
