E-manage Ultimate (emu) 56k Beware (screen Shots)
scotty nm35 replied to STATUS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Some of the earlier EMU's had issues with the ignition outputs, are you able to get the version number off it? (I think its printed on the circuit board.) Any chance you could try another unit temporarily? -
Considering the torque output Cihan feels it is doing very well. Not that many engines would be taking the abuse this one has, its done literally 300 dyno power runs and lasted 3 years powered up with over 3 bar of boost at times. I'm quite impressed. I don't have a choice smashing limiter, it happens all the time due to the stupid auto failing to shift in time. At least pinking is a thing of the past... Still running the 1.06 Tial mate, looking to crack 350kw this time so I will need it.

Putting A Vq30det Into A V35 Coupe
scotty nm35 replied to arnie_350gt's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
We need more information... Location? is the car manual? what ecu are you planning on running? It wont be legal in Australia to fit a VQ30det but it could work very well as they are an extremely capable engine, it wouldn't be a strait forward swap though. Cheapest option is to slap a VQ35de back in there... -
I was down at Edge tuning again today after sorting out the boost control circuit and fitting the lower temp thermostat. It was also a good chance to change fuels to United e90 as there is one local now but the extra torque put an end to any fun I was expecting. 3rd gear runs saw the torque converter lockup clutch slipping badly, that and we couldn't work out how to get rid the speed cut with the Fcon for 4th to be very useful. It looks like I will have to upgrade the stall converter again and refit the SLD. As it was, with 4th gear runs to around 5k it was comfortably hitting 300kw at 25psi (flat finally) If I can get the SLD re-installed I may be able to sneak a tune in this weekend. I'm bloody amazed, as is Cihan that this little 2.5 just keeps taking more...
-
The RPM is calculated though, its usually not accurate from what I have seen, how can you know every car's ratios anyway? If you can't work it out from the graph i'm sure someone will have a guess for you, without seeing the sheet I can say it would probably come on hard around 4k. My tune today didn't pan out, speed cut and a slipping lock up clutch ruined my chances of a good result with the 71. I will be back on the weekend with the SLD back in place hoping for 350kw.

I wouldn't bother yet, it will only be a problem when you start leaning on the turbo I think, when the airflow and exhaust flow are too great for the wastegate to keep up. You can try die grinding it in the car, Stao mentioned it should be fine, but it would be a pain to do a good job on it. Turbo out for that one. The dump pipe is the same style I have always made, its around 4 inch at the turbo with a nice funnel down to 3 inch. No splitter required. There is another on on the bench next to it, for a guy in NZ.
-
Boost creep happens because the wastegate cant flow enough, nothing to do with the spring, it would be wide open by then. I should have gotten in there and die ground the hole out but it would have meant removing the turbo. I think Stao will have to get it machined out as big as possible, even to the stage of having a larger puck if its possible. (his idea of a longer leverage point for the actuator wont work on our turbo's)

I'm impressed by the build quality of the billet SS1PU for the price, its a great budget upgrade and a lot cheaper than any other options around. (This on had the billet front wheel added.) There were a couple of issues fitting up the turbo, mainly due to the turbo housings not being rotated in the factory position. Luckily I had a stock turbo to work off as the front housing and chra placement need to be spot on, otherwise it will never go back in there. (or you will be doing the job twice.) The other issue, as was mentioned is the wastegate hole is just too small. This will obviously be rectified on future highflow's but it meant the boost would automatically raise up to 21psi, not something you want when you are trying to tune the car. As Sky^rkt's car is on e85 this isn't as much of an issue but on 98 it would cause detonation when timing was advanced. You can see the boost creep on the graph. The main thing is, the turbo is small enough to spool up on stall with the stock converter. This means it takes off quite well once tuned, especially with e85 in the tank. I think Cihan has nutted these tunes now, each one he does feels more refined than the last as he learns the ecu's quirks. Thanks Stao.

Thanks for personally dropping the parts off Chadsta, sorry I missed you. -
What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?
scotty nm35 replied to Hanso's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Its not laggy at all for the power, just when you compare it to the stock turbo. Im going back to edge tomorrow for my attempt to crack 350kw with the GTX3071, will let you know how it goes. I wouldn't like to go laggier than what I have at the moment but where is the fun in stopping there? Next goal will be 400. -

The billet compressor is $200 more, the customer can decide how laggy they want it to be... It seems to be around 3500 from what I saw, perhaps you can elaborate Marko? Bit hard without a boost gauge I suppose. -

Not planning to go through all that again I assume? lol. I suspect he put the smaller wheels in yours, did you take any pics? We should start a Stagea Hypergear thread and post pics up with power/lag results. I took quite a few... -

Shift kit Full 3 inch exhaust with custom dump/front pipe Hypergear highflow HDI cooler 3 inch intake Xspurt Bosch 1000cc injectors with plug in adapter Emanage ultimate 300lph Deatschworks fuel pump @ 14v Looks completely stock and legal with the engine cover back on. I have given Marko my SLD, as long as the Fcon gets rid of speed cut... Boost curve isn't too bad, I like the power curve, its like a V8. (Stao didn't open up the wastegate so it spikes to around 21psi or so.) We could have bumped up the midrange a little to flatten it off but it drives great either way. -

I'm glad you're happy mate, that's the goal after all. Who's next? -
Its fairly common for the M35's starter to die, mine went from over cranking it when the battery was low, blew the winding apart near the commutator. I know the parts are available but you will need to find a competent repairer locally, or just do what I did and buy another. Its the same as a V35 2.5dd so there are plenty of spare ones floating about. The 3.5L starter is a little chunkier I think, perhaps that would be a good upgrade if it fits?

Beat you to it Birds. Drop in, I can make an 80mm intake for you tomorrow if you like. Yours should be an interesting ride on ethanol, they have pretty good response don't they mate.

Did you get the engine cover on and hide the Emanage away yet? It should look as stock as it came in. I guess it helps that I dropped it off and had him under the pump to pick it up. The Easter holidays wouldn't have helped either. I'm fairly sure he outsources his machining work so time can blow out as you know. Is it on yet? What wheels did you end up with? -
Fs/parts V35 Series 2 Supercharged Hail Damaged
scotty nm35 replied to IOWNU's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I'm fairly sure it had the newer HKS IS, not a Vpro anyway. Sorry Bazr you will probably have to look on Import monster for a V3.24, not much chance of getting one locally, perhaps post up a WTB? -
They are different, in height and fork width.
