Guilt-toy Now Running On E85 !
scotty nm35 replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
E85 should be treated the same as LPG imo, the EPA/vicroads don't seem to care at all as long as the fuel tank is inoperative. They aren't tuned well a majority of the time and are still a fossil fuel, releasing that deadly carbon locked in the earth we keep hearing about. If they decide to Carbon tax e85 I will be really pissed. If only I had an endless supply of apples... -
Yep, at this stage the plan is to be there around 5 for scrutineering, I don't want to be there all night so I will try and get a few runs in early on.
-
Not a good source for information imo. Too many kickbacks from the race fuel industry perhaps? Trent has tuned countless times with Eflex and C16 with little difference in performance or safety. I know which one I would rather pay for in my daily...
-
I use United e85 sometimes and just add a few litres of 98 in the mix. It doesn't make any difference to my wideband readout if i'm a litre or two out either way. The old tune ran 18:1 on cruise perfectly well so i'm sure the 16:1 I run now will be quite safe. Try that with petrol... At maximum load there is that much more fuel volume pumping in the cylinder, so the pistons are cooled considerably more than with 98, allowing even more safety margin.
-
I don't know any tuners that wouldn't tune e85 on the slightly rich side to compensate. What you may not realise is its the other way around, the varying e85 mixture make sweet FA difference to the AFR's and the car is still 100% safer than your normal 98 tune. I would still recommend a wideband to potential ethanol users but I would make the same recommendation to people pushing 98's boundarys. You do know 98 varies with the seasons too right?
-
I call your varying ethanol content and raise you an empty water bottle. I know which one will kill the engine quicker tuned to the edge... Either way I would get a manifold mounted exhaust temp sensor with warning.
-
I would assume that too Dale, my car was creaking over bumps and it stopped when we changed that bush.

R33Det & R34 Gtt Crankshaft And Engine Block
scotty nm35 replied to zoom's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Has the block been decked? -
The BOV does have a 4mm hole bleeding air, for a smooth throttle roll off. You can tap an m5 thread in the hole and loctite a grub screw there to try it I guess.

Fs: Nm35 Stagea Arx
scotty nm35 replied to andy65b's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I don't think you will get the sale price without a gear knob but in all seriousness this car has quite the mod list. Someone should grab it, no more to spend here... Good luck with the sale Andy. Its sad to see her go. -
Strange Sound When Coming Off Boost
scotty nm35 replied to ChrisB's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Any weird noises should be checked out, the stock turbo would have been nearly silent when new. I have a good one here that barely makes any noise. I will check it out on Saturday, it may pay to search for the "cleaning the banjo bolt" threads as lack of oil supply would be one of the major factors in turbo failure imo. -
I will try and make it Chris and I would be glad to help if I can. What time is the meet again? I will check the thread. Oracle? Just experienced in Stagea problems. Haha.
-
Most of the bushes in a car this old will be on the way out. I would get under there and grease the bushes with some lube spray like lanolin (or something that wont attack rubber) and see if the noises go away first. It could also be the shock. Failing that, go to town on replacing all the bushes with Nolethane and get some BC's.
-
Yeh Mick, very close power wise. The car still doesn't feel that quick, its a fair bit heavier than a skyline but the torque obviously helps. I guess I will see what it can do on Friday.
-
HKS have a bad habit of suing people. lol. f**kers...
-
^^^ Agreed. What are they doing Birds? Fit turbo, fab intake, tune car, there's a day. Why so slow?
-
Its an adjustable turbo nozzle as far as I know, to change the angle the gasses hit the turbine blades.
-
Oh, his stock fuel pump was lethargic. Its too late once its strapped to the dyno I guess... I had faith in your setup Cam, even though I had teething issues with mine. Thanks for the help buddy.

I have a V-manage for sale, it can adjust variable valve timing on many engines just not my VQ25det (will work on the VQ35de). I paid over $600 but you can gain from my misfortune and buy it for $400 plus shipping. As new, only tested in my car for a short while. It uses the Emanage software which is readily available below. (it didn't come with a disk) It will also ship with the 2 channel loom in the original box. http://greddy.net.au/products/display/?Category=electronics&SubCategory=72 http://www.trust-power.com/03electric/vmanage.html I'm in SE Melbourne and welcome pickup or I can ship anywhere at your expense. Thanks for looking. Scott 0408 993 893 Link to sale thread

Here is the page for Calder on Friday night. It looks like I would have to be there by 5 or 6pm. http://www.calderpark.com.au/events/friday-night-off-street-drags-26588.aspx

There was no issue with Cams install either if you listened. I can adjust the throttle curve similar to the pivot unit but this goes way further, the Fcon controls the throttle directly so no more closing after 5k, blip on pedal release, throttle close on gearchange or whatever else it does. I have to hook up the brake wire again and see if this engine light will go away. Oh and reconnect the o2 sensor...

200kph was just over 6k I think in 4th gear, 6500 perhaps? Dyno wont go over that speed. Can you work it out from there? The boost ramps slower now as I re-routed the wastegate hoses, boost was spiking with boost pressure to the top of the gate though. It still makes full boost by around 4k with the 1.06 Tial rear. I probably should have posted in Micks GTX3071 thread but I was answering the wastegate plumb back question.
-
Yeh mate, just the baby GTX on the stock crossover manifold and Eflex. Not bad for an unopened VQ don't you think? I just wish I had the coin to slot a VQ25det in a light car, rx7 or 1600 perhaps? One day... Here is the boost graph from above.

Trolololol. Good try Cam. Anyway, its a great option for tuning if you can get past the high cost and lack of HKS tuners.
