  1. SAU Vic organises an E85 conversion night and I just got an invite now? I wouldn't mind coming along, if just to eat free pizza. haha.
  2. Lol, you think the stock intake would save you from epa headaches when running a 4 inch aftermarket Garrett? Autobarn was as far as my passenger wanted to let me drive.
  3. You should have gone for a drive in the Stagea today, in that heavy rain. Still hooks up nicely. You can't beat awd grip anytime. I agree, intake pipes are exempt as long as the AFM is in the stock position and the BOV/Breather pipes are plumbed back. I wouldn't be asking a police officer how to interpret these laws though.
  4. Unless 4wd, as they can legally fit a turbo kit so I am told. Anything is legal as far as the EPA goes, as long as you run straight gas. I would be taking my case to court if defected, as ethanol should be included along with gas (seeing the emissions are better than LPG vehicles.)
  5. Thanks Michael, my intakes meet all those criteria. K+N filters are illegal. Finally. They are crap imo.
  6. That's what I bought, Fuelab seem to be one of the only brands to have the speed controller built in, and I am pretty sure they can be mounted intank with an appropriate filter. No idea why you would want to though, at that sort of power you need the surge tank anyway.
  7. Either replace the AFM or resolder the pins inside, they often get dry joints where the plug pins meet the board, especially if you play with the wiring/plug.
  8. Piping doesn't seem to be included, otherwise you couldn't legally run a front mount cooler and modified piping, as that is two modifications. You are all defected now.
  9. So you can't have intercooler pipes then. Also, my car came with a front mount cooler, so upgrading it isn't a mod correct?
  10. All pipes after the turbo will need a bead, to stop the hose clamp sliding off. We have already been over all this.
  11. I have seen 500kw through stock GTR pipes, cooler and airbox, and also 430kw through a gtst with a return flow cooler. I have no idea where the idea these parts don't support more power started, but they were probably trying to sell their overpriced products. Yes, the rubber gtst intake will definitely suck shut at around 250kw but it's a simple mod to replace the intake, and painted black it is barely noticeable. I still don't know if a replacement intake is legal though, as they only seem to mention pod filters.
  12. Don't listen to them. Yeh man, you need to run a boost line to the manifold, it will work, and may even measure boost if your cold air induction is working well. You just need to drive really fast then turn the key off.
  13. Having a PWM controlled pump is critical in a road car, so as not to overheat the fuel. Plus, not many of the larger pumps like running 100% duty for long. Using multiple pumps without some method of making sure they are working properly is a good way to lunch an engine. I run twin Walbros, one feeds each V6 rail, so if one fails, the engine just runs on 3 cylinders. Totally agree, and they are only rated for 70 hours life span on e85 apparently.
  14. Or buy an awd base to begin with if you want traction.
  15. But when stock coils are up to the task, any cost is unwarranted... I just can't justify changing a part that works fine, no matter the spark output they are rated to.
  16. I think you may need to go external, although you can still mount the larger (2000hp) external pumps intank apparently. With the G forces you are heading towards, you should be more worried about fuel surge...
  17. I have seen a couple max out, base pressure and boost pressure were pretty close though I think. 40 psi base with 30 psi boost. You could get a bit more out of them by dropping the base pressure a little. You should see at least 400kw, these maxed at 430 and 450.
  18. Nulon synthetic is definitely ok to use, and cheaper than Matic J. I am just using cheap Dextron 3, but my gearbox is built much stronger. It still utilises the same Nissan clutches inside the trans though, just more of them.
  19. ^^ This. Great post Ben. Cylinder pressure becomes exponentially higher with more timing and boost, especially on higher compression engines. But if the piston is coming up for the compression stroke and the fuel ignites early due to a hot valve, plug or other hot spot in the chamber, it will need to compress that explosion, cylinder pressure is huge at this point and is similar to hitting the piston with a sledge hammer. Something must give eventually, either the bearing, rod or piston will fail. I have noticed you can buy spark plugs with pressure transducers in them, for checking cylinder pressures. I guess tuners don't need such tools, but I would be keen to give them a shot myself for interests sake.
  20. There are much better coils out there if you want a big spark, I have seen LS coils fail dismally on the dyno, especially if you don't have good dwell adjustment. The only benefit is their cost. If I changed parts simply because others had issues I wouldn't have ever finished my build. The amount of times I have been told to run copper plugs and change my coils... They are all wrong, it's a VQ, not an RB. More than likely your mates had dirty coilpacks from sitting at the wreckers, or copper plugs in an engine specifically designed for platinum/iridium plugs. They would have been told the same thing as tuners told me, just change them before you go on the dyno mate...
  21. The 42 is a good turbo, it will run well over 550kw, as should your Precision...
  22. Perhaps the brand or part number was different, but both times I have seen it on 34's the filter was an issue. Probably just blocked with gunk, but they were changed recently... At least the tank setup is good for 430 or more kw in the 33 and 34.
  23. I have had no issues maxing an e85 Walbro without drilling or modifying the fuel tank at all.
  24. On that we can definitely agree. Will be interesting to compare this BW turbo with the GTX45 builds I have coming up... Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
  25. I have had parcels take over a month to deliver, and they were in the same state. AP can be good, but mostly they are fail. Give him the benefit of the doubt, it will most likely turn up eventually, after being found under the wheels of a forklift.
