GTRgeoff replied to exXU1's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Nick, since the topic has swung this way, is it fair to suggest that the for sale section be modified for sellers to meet certain criteria in their profile. I know it's extra effort, and you guys all have a tough enough job but consider the following: Before you can sell you must have a valid name and address and telephone number. These are hidden in your profile and are available to admins. When a buyer makes an offer that is accepted they are given access for a short period to the sellers details (by the seller through a clicky button) in order to satisfy themselves that the seller is legitimate. This can be done by the buyer by taking the name and address and searching the white pages to ensure the home number given is a match. The buyer should call to ascertain a bogus address has not been used. Sellers must give a legitimate landline number to be able to meet this criteria. It will be up to the buyers to ensure they check for legitimate details, as any old garbage can be entered just to allow a check to be passed for an ad to be posted. Only dodgy dealers have anything to hide from. Buyers have to give postal details for goods to be mailed so why not have sellers do the same. Essentially you remian anonymous until you allow someone to look at the hidden detail for a limited period of time. I know there will be some tricky work to make this kind of thing happen, and I'm disgusted that there are scum that make us consider these measures, but this forum is too good to stop the trading just because of them. Just have a think about it and talk to the other mods. I think there may ne some value in the concept. I would be willing to do it. Traders will of course use their business details. Cheers Geoff -
Just posting these details as the search on this forum just sux now. Can't go past a couple of months. They apparently had hundreds in the warehouse.

Pred, I use the suttons viper bits. Slowest speed and lightest pressure possible. Start wit 3-4 mm then the 8 should go through. Also consider an angle grinder and just remove the captured nuts, then use a nut and bolt to put it together as you can replace as necessary. Captured nuts on exhaust are just stupid.

So he got some pork......on his fork?????

It always works for me and I always get the brake smell with RB74's

Comes as a whole item. I recall one guy pressed new bearings in and they lasted about a week before failure.

OK cheers mate. I'll pass on the tension rod, but I will take all the brake pads if the price includes delivery. Always handy to have spares at the track if a set collapse and it's cheaper than new discs.

http://www.dba.com.au/tech/major_considerations.asp Just looking for some other stuff as well. I use 6 stops from 100 - 40 and then drive a while without stopping completely. I think the smoke part is overkill but the rest is good. As for 'grooves' in the disc face, don't sweat it. The pad will quickly conform, especially if you run slots.

Replace the tensioner and idler Deren. Total engine destruction if you have one fail.

I'm not racing now. Just not in any fit state and too drugged when I am feeling ok. I'll see if I'm up to the drive up to cheer you on but I can't prep the car feeling like this. Alcohol doesn't mix well with this drug either so no overnighters either. Really pi55ed as I was looking forward to some fun.

J-L, are the tension rods the adjustable type? If so I'll take them and pay postage. Edit: just looking at the pics. Tension rod is not what I expected as I was thinking of castor rods, commonly called tension rods. Fill me in on this item please. Cheers Geoff

I used 10 watt 10 ohm from Jaycar. Ran fine until the bloody front turbo on the 25 spat it.

Do a search. I've posted a good place to get them cheap. They are on the Hume in Campbellfield.

Shuddering brakes on GTR

That especially applies to drums as on 33gtst as well. Also you should use old pads to season new/machined discs. -
Still hunting for an oil cooler, and feeling a bit sore after a champion effort by Mr Brisby who erected half my garage yesterday. Thanks mate.

Shuddering brakes on GTR

At a guess I'd say that you completed one of your big stops and left your foot on the brake at a light. Maybe even more than once. This allows the pad material to propagate through the disc upsetting the grain structure and the wear characteristics. Alternatively it can cause a differential cooling rate allowing some areas of the disc to cool at a rate wherby cementite forms, which a form of steel that is tougher and more resistant to wear. What then happens is some parts wear faster than others and you get pedal shudder. Try the originals and see how it goes. It may not be too bad. Just remember to have time to run a cooldown after hard braking periods and don't use the handbrake to park if the brakes are still really hot. If you are doing it on the street it's only a matter of time before something goes wrong, so come to the racetrack with us and go fast responsibly.
