  1. Is weber there? The missus reckons there are also a couple of other guys who she thinks drives cars in the background but I havn't got there yet.....
  2. Precisely. It's simply based upon steering angle and wheel speed, which is why it is such a crap system. Perhaps you are thinking of the GTR with about 3 accelerometers for the Atessa system.
  3. proengines, great effort and I would say this is no hijack, well IMO anyway. It is 21 years since I last worked engine reco's so I appreciate this detail. As for the cleanup, it's like anything else really important in the engine. Get it done right the first time and so much crap can collect in the casting roughness inside the block it's awesome. Also you develop a conscience after a while (especially if you have stood on the back of a Leopard Tank throwing grass seed into the turn marks to rejuvenate the environment after passing). Just wish I was in ACT as i'd have a fair idea where I would be getting my engine machining done.....
  4. Well I guess we just wait and see with this one. I'm not in a position to add detail or confirm or deny the setup as I haven't seen it, and steve is off to japan for a bit so there will be no more bites there, but I am hoping to see it soon. He's a pretty good guy as well. How many people would borrow your trailer and bring it back fully resprayed? Matt, if you are so desperate for the dyno print I'll ask if he has it. Also, yes, Steve has a long standing association with Issy at SelectMaz, doing a lot of their rotor porting work for them as well as spending time on the workshop floor. Issy also now owns SelectMaz outright and intends to move more into the Skyline and import market (apparently even bought a GTR32), so if MoTeC is on your shopping list I would recommend giving them a call. Anyway, Steve has some expectations from this motor so good luck to him.
  5. Sorry but won't make it. Off to Qld for a funeral. Maybe next month.
  6. Typical low res MMS and poor light. Anyway, looking forward to results. Apparently it's in and getting IC piping fitted soon.
  7. Well I haven't seen it myself but here are a couple of pics steve MMS'd me yesterday. Looks and sounds like it could be a bit alright.
  8. Thanks for that, good to see that the logic to running in hasn't changed dramatically and is precisely how I run my engies in. Feel free to put as much or as little detail as you feel necessary. You are already helping heaps by adding to the knowledge base. Just for interest, I actually paid $75 to have my block fully prep cleaned and sealed in plastic as I don't have any filtration and separation facilities to clean a block properly, and the quantity of cleaner and crap that can come out is astonishing...and harmful to the environment so it was worth the extra. As for tuning...well don't I know it. Yet to pull the head and ascertain the extent of damage but after fitting unknown injectors that I was told were 440cc cleaned and flowed, a short run in 2nd to 5psi, a miss developed very rapidly....about half a second, then loss of power. I now have 25psi on 1,2,3 and 125psi on 4,5,6 so I assume a very lean situation developed and I'm up for another rebuild.
  9. A few stats for the top fuel junkies. Now THIS is Drag!!! Seriously, I am impressed with the speeed and detail in these things
  10. Mate that was an outstanding effort, and thanks also for taking the time. No wonder the ACT guys rate you so highly, well from what I've picked up on anyway, but it is well deserved. Perhaps one of our ACT members will offer to take a tour and take some pics to include as you have already gone above and beyond. Pictures aside, the only way you could exceed yourself would be to offer some thoughts on run in for your engines. As for pistons. This is interesting and supports your favourite brand so well done again. http://www.importbuilders.com/pistoncomparo.html
  11. There is no reason not to do this, as long as your goals are set realistically and you plan for reaching them in a logical way. So it won't handle high boost???? set it up for low boost to take advantage of the high CR. The yanks love to do this with hondas. Saab do it with a V6 (or used to) with one low presure turbo on one bank. What turbo to use? Maybe not a standard RB25 but something smaller. Maybe a hybrid with the 25 (modified steel) exhaust and 26 compressor. I'm no expert on turbos but it will involve some thought and suck it and see. Anyway, good luck.
  12. Turbos are pretty much banded by CFM so if the volume of air going into an RB20 is XX amount to make the power you want and the velocity/volume of gas coming out is sufficiently matched to the turbo and the rev range you want power then it will work. Now whether it will be laggy or give good response due to the construction is a different matter. Being off a truck it will probably need a large volume of flow to be happy, as truck engines tend to be large capacity long stroke slow revving things with the deisels have especially high compression ratios for compression ignition (no spark plugs). Also, being off a truck the rotating components may be of sturdy construction as response is not as important as longevity. May not be the case but something to think about.
  13. Can't help on the Iritops but I have to say that the specialised plugs cost a lot and don't do justice to a highly tuned engine, so I stick with coppers in the 7 heat range and pay $20 a set. Also the fact that the special coating can easily be breached by regapping to obtain a 0.7 - 0.8mm gap makes them worthless to me. I simply check the gap before each race meeting and it takes about 20 min with the cover left off. GTR is of course a lot easier to service the plugs in standard config.
  14. Wasn't on Saturday was it? I just heard of an accident in a GTR34 then around Majura.
  15. Well lucky I CBF working for Defence any more. 4 weeks and counting down.
  16. Asking $600 delivered but offers considered. SOLD This turbo has produced 220rwkw and was bought from one of the Rigoli workshops in Sydney in 1999. I was advised the turbo had been modified, but have no idea of the mods performed, just the turbo performance as it stands which has been compared favourably with a 2530. It has been run at up to 14psi since this tune and has been consistent on the racetrack. It demonstrates no additional play since it was bought and has been cared for with oil changes every 5000km or before each track day and with sensible warm downs and turbo timer usage. I will be replacing one of the dump pipe studs before sending due to the nut binding and fracturing the stud. Since this occurence I have used anti-seize to prevent any others binding. Selling due to recent upgrade to twin turbo configuration. DYNO Run piccie Feel free to call during working hours on deleted or better yet email me (in my sig) Terms are strictly payment before delivery.
  17. It's a long time since I did any engine reconditioning myself so I'll decline the opportunity to make an ass of myself. ylwgtr2 would be our best resource given recent projects undertaken :wavey:
  18. I'm interested in the airbox and filter. I'll take both if that price includes postage to Melbourne.
  19. I like to guage by the number of pictures of race cars/boats in the reception. In Melbourne I used Duggans Balancing - Newlands Road Reservior. Good work with balance, o rings and thorough cleanup of the crank and block ready for new forgies and GTR rods. Nicely priced too. 1200 all up with a thorough quote and work checklist, all I had to do was lube and assemble. Even found the crank was bent so after straightening, with the crank girdle torqued I could get a few turns of the crank by a single spin by hand. Also not RB specific and deal with all engines.
  20. Every club seems to be different, even with the same chief scrutineer. Bottom line, keep a decent restraint and you are halfway there. WRX club even requires leather upper shoes!!
  21. Steve, how about post them in my tutorial (in my sig)?
  22. Actually, chances are that with a lot of the skylines getting on a bit the suspension isn't so great so not only will a nice new Aussie V8 outgun them in a straight line, but in the corners too. Sure the argument is there that with money each can be made to go faster, but stock, the V8's are a pretty good package now, regardless what company they come from. As for which is faster, I'd suggest it depends on the driver and their commitment, and the only place to find out is on the racetrack...refer to "The Pyramid of Speed" in my sig. Final word from me, if everyone liked the same thing, there wouldn't be enough to go around, that's why I have a couple of 6 cyl turbos, a V8 and a four in the garage.
  23. Still not getting time for the car but I do intend to be here in June. May even have the wheels and rubber by then but a big thanks for the offer for Calder, just wish I'd got there. That bar has come off to remake the mould and my new/replacement one is supposed to be Kevlar, with a vented Kevlar bonnet and maybe an undertray and splitter with Kevlar guards coming later. Mine is meant to be the demo car, but the guy making them was in a prang on the weekend where he broke his collarbone so a bit of a wait on the stuff. As for the marlboro man....last sighted at Sandown grinning from ear to ear.
  24. Denham on the video side I have a dvd recorder that my vcr plugs into. Just send me the tape. Troy if you have the data cable I may be able to do the conversion for you. Great to hear a good day was had, and Ferraris still crash....
