  1. Sorry Foamer. I don't agree and society was better before we got peace and free love professionals. When society refuses to accept weakness and stupidity then there is no place for it. Tough love is a useful catch term. Of course when people are disadvantaged through no fault of their own they need help but drugs are a choice.

I spent many years perfecting the art of hunting and killing people as efficiently as possible but apparently it would be wrong to use those skills on the people that bleed and decay our society through choosing to do very wrong things repeatedly. Instead we make excuses for them. I think there is something wrong that we have to wait upon chance to remove these worthless individuals from out gene pool.

Regardless mate, at some levels I do think highly of you guys that try to help complete strangers. Turning a kids life around can feel pretty good but how many failures are there that go on to get worse with extra chances? It takes a big heart and a fair chunk of courage. I just can't convince myself that it is of huge benefit after a certain point. Safety nets make people complacent.

  2. Fcuk them. They reap what they sowed. Too often the punishment is far too lenient but this time it was karma that played a part.

Time to stop feeling sorry for everyone associated with them. Life is full of crap. Suck it up and move on. Care for those you know and want to care about.

  3. Al, custom will be pretty easy and those prices sound about right. I had a 30mm made for my Lynx (FWD) to make it an awesome rear slider. They refused to warranty that size though :D and after 6 months started to rip the rear subframe apart.

You can drive normally without the front bar but try not to corner hard as the rear would be very skatey.

  4. Apart from the slight difference in stroke, is there any difference in weight, balance/size of throws, or construction between the cranks in RB25 and RB26?

While I haven't bothered with the detail of the 26 crank, the throw is longer to achieve the increased swept capacity. Remember they are lower comp than RB25 so the pin to deck height is a fair bit lower in the pistons. From brief inspection the cranks are a very similar style between all RBs and all are nitrided.

There are various people who've fitted 26-spec rods into their 25-spec engines, but no indicator as to whether they required any work to the crank to deal with the heavier (by around 50 grams each) GTR conrods.

I did no extra work when I fitted 26 rods in the 25, just lightened the flywheel, radiused the bearing journals, chamfered the oil holes and had the oil plugs pulled and tapped, then flushed and used grub screws with loctite. It helps to get the rods x-rayed to ensure they will do the job if second hand and you MUST at least replace the bolts with stock or better.

In the 26/30 I'll be going further since I went forged Spool rods and CP pistons and using a decent harmonic balancer.

  5. There are a number of procedures that can be used, although thermal shock is a major consideration so cooling rates need to be carefully controlled. In fact after forging or machining residual stress failure is not unheard of in cryo treatment.

I do understand that there is a strong recommendation for a post cryo tempering process, but that is a standard consideration for post treatment of certain products regardless of cryo treatment.

  6. I have a lot of reservations about the benefits of cryo treatment. I will say that cryo is absolutely not similar to nitriding.

Let me put it this way. I'm a mechanical engineer. We are often referred to as metallurgists but don't have the same core learning. We do have a hell of a lot of background for obvious interests. What I do know is that steels obtain different strength properties through alloying, heat treatment and working (or forging processes). Recent developments have been through HSLAs or high strength low alloy steels which use significant working to achieve low weight and high strength for say car panels.

Some heat treatments and quenching rates produces certain grain structures. Every steel alloy has a certain TTT diagram (time temperature transformation). So through trial and error I can achieve a certain grain structure through heating and cooling, then cutting and testing and micrographing the grain structure.

The suggestion is that through super cooling you can achieve homogeneous refinement of grain structure, something only achievable through HSLA processes. Think of the production of a Samurai blade through hundreds of folds of the steel. Surface treatment though is an attempt to strengthen the surface region through alloying and particulate precipitation to prevent crack growth propagation. A lot like linishing, polishing and shot peening but less labour intensive. The intent is to prevent crack propagation and induce strength with toughness, not brittleness. Super cooling sets a condition where the steel is extremely brittle, strength properties are reduced and molecular bonding and interaction is reduced. I know of no temperature transition in steel where anything can occur as in say tin (where in the Napoleonic wars the soldiers tin button basically fell to dust in the cold due to a temperature transform an molecular bond loss).

I have zero belief that cryo treatment produces anything except dollars from a pocket.

This is all of course very brief but I could go on in detail, however the fact remains that no real evidence exists of the value of cryo. I am a big believer in technology and handled hundreds of M of technology projects in acquiring and improving weapons systems. If it works better I will embrace it but I cannot accept cryo in any respect as yet.

  7. Hoang, they are absolutely ripping you off mate.

Nitriding is a process of introducing elements through heat and proximity to create a different alloy near the surface of steels in order to prevent crack propagation and sub surface crack nucleation. It can never wear our as it is now alloyed in the structure. Redoing it is basically useless as the nitriding resists further nitriding. To remove it you need to machine away the surface material.

My bottom end machining, cleaning ready to assemble and head skim with full zero balance cost $1400.

  8. i was lucky enough to pick up a 33gtr pump for free but can get another one for 200NZD, so id suggest looking into doing that.

    R33 GTR pump = R33 GTS25t pump.

Check the part numbers and flow rates in FAST.

Don't pay extra for a "GTR" pump.

  9. youll need to make sure u use the correct injectors to suit the chosen power fc

im not sure on the sensor side of things though sorry

Wrong on the injectors shane old mate. If using a 25 PFC with 26 (or other low impedance) injectors then make a resistor pack.

If using a 26 PFC and high impedance injectors then no resistor pack. If using 26 PFC with low impedance injectors then you need a resistor pack.

    Easily made for about $10.

  10. What Shane said. You will have to fab up lower mounts.

My setup still just touches at the front. So I'll be using the soft mallet to create clearance when some new engine covers go in. The primary reason I went 26/30 was to have the lower plenum as well as 6 throttle for the racetrack.

Also my machining including a head skim cost $1400 including full balance, fitting slugs, crank deplug and clean and full check then tapped and grub screwed. I used forged rods so no prep of those. It came cleaned ready to give a final wipe and assemble.

  11. With all the engine failures recorded below I've only seen a couple when the belt let go. Just heard of one this morning but no detail yet. Of the others I know it was either a poor quality bolt in the idler/adjuster and a cam cap galled and the belt jumped a bit (GTR cams into RB20) so I've yet to actually see where the belt has failed instantly and catastrophically. There is usually noise and time to inspect the problem.

  12. So you take that to court and shove it up the arrogant coppers ass.

Who do these cretins think they are? They aren't solving third world poverty; not taking a bullet for global freedom from tyranny; just cruising the streets looking for revenue.

Treat them like the public servants they are. They make errors of judgement and unless they are called to task they will believe they are infallible.
