Just noticing that the silicon hoses aren't clamped and the braided oil lines stick way up and will rub the bonnet so they could have used banjo feeds. Also looks to be oil only turbos with no water cooling. I'd want to see their dyno chart first for this "prototype". Call me picky but I think you'd get a nicer job done with R33-R34 turbos at a much cheaper price including the dumps and injectors, but then I do my own work. At 15psi, what are GTR's pulling peak power-wise? How laggy will this setup be through standard GTSt throttle body at just 15psi? And with an extra injector and controller it's a bit of a bandaid/gamble considering the fragility of the stock GTS pistons. I won't be reaching for my wallet until I see the dyno chart on hot and cold days and feel the driveability.

What an absolutely delicious thing to unexpectedly discover. I don't know whether to feel good for you for discovering something nice or despise you for buying a GTR and knowing nothing about them. Seriously though, very nice choice of automobile. Hope you discover more great treats

have to get fcDatalogit then

Does it work with PFC also ?

Why Install Sump Baffle In Rb26 When It Already Has One?
GTRgeoff replied to Scooby's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Nice Ken. Would be interesting data to log at high resolution. 1kg/cm^2 is about 1 bar or 14.22 psi, which is a pathetic amount of pressure, but in a dynamic fluid bearing it is not the delivery pressure that provides the actual lubrication but the viscosity of the oil, so if zero pressure where there (meaning air pickup) the bearing would run dry, meaning metal on metal and probable death. Any measurable pressure means the bearing is lubricated. A higher viscosity oil would result in an almost immeasurable drop in power, but would need less oil flow volume for the same lubrication task and greater resistance to inertial surging. Temperatires in the oil may increase so a cooler would be advisable. Nothing comes free. Still looking for the perfect multigrade oil spec though. -
Why Install Sump Baffle In Rb26 When It Already Has One?
GTRgeoff replied to Scooby's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just a couple of informative links on lubrication, adding to the discussion on thicker oil use. http://www.syntheticwarehouse.com/lubricat...%20concepts.htm http://www.lubricatingoildepot.com/engine-oil.html http://www.syntheticwarehouse.com/lubricat...%20concepts.htm http://www.infodotinc.com/engine3/en32-37.htm So the key is not too thick and not too thin. Still determining the best result. Ken has a good point, but watching the oil guage through a fast sweeper?????? -
Aftermarket LSD question
GTRgeoff replied to Chris32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
That one in the pic looks like a viscous out of a 33, which I understand are unrepairable from my enquiries. I'm just hoping mine is helical so I can get away with getting it shimmed. Post price if anyone gets it done. -
Shinsei, PM me with the details also please. Since this was supplied with all the bits, there is no reason 3 weeks wasn't achievable, the machining taking the most time of a week. Workshops are just being stupid or greedy if they take work they can't complete, but just send the name of the place to those interested as some of these tuning shops have plenty of groupies, regardless of the fact they are often allowing themselves to be yanked about and paying for the privelege. I may be a bit tough, but I learnt it managing multi mill contracts, and there are nio friends in business, so I establish a reasonable time frame with the supplier and apply penalty rates if the work is not completed on time (unless an agreed extension has been awarded due to circumstance). Penalty rates (loss of final payable bill amount) buys some pretty good communication, believe me, or the slack places see the writing on the wall and won't take the work. Either way they are exposed and the customer is protected. I've done a lot of engine rebuilds, usually in larger well managed factory workshops (Toyota), and they lose customers if they take too long so I can see the farce when a place offers to do it in the reasonable time frame and then takes 4 times longer to complete. I'm siding with Bob on the legality issues, but there is no reason to plaster the name everywhere. The interested people will ask.

You're a legend mate

LOW25T, big ask, but do you happen to know the boost the MINES ecu was tuned for? Not something I know anyway but it would be helpful.

Geeezus, Sydney drivers . As long as no luggage was crushed Pete.......looking forward to the updates on this one.

Should be fine. just don't want to hear the turbo spinning when you've turned the engine off.

The Hybrid coolers are as good as any of those brands and there are plenty cheap on the forum if you search. The name is not worth the extra bux. Mine runs less than 1 degree above ambient temperature on the exit and the pressure drop figures claimed are as good as any others. Piping can be fabricated for as little as $150 in mild plus hoses (go to Pirtek for cheap) or 350 plus hoses in polished stainless. Unless you are going to push motza boost then the pirtek stuff is fine. There are also some GTR coolers cheap on the forum but not in the class of the Hybrid. Inlet and exit angles suck too. black painted coolers can actually work less efficiently if the paint thickness isn't controlled well enough.

Had a bad Day? How bout a bad month!
GTRgeoff replied to sprinterboy's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Justin, hang in there buddy. You've helped somebody, been there for your friends losses and the cars can be fixed. Losing a baby is a terrible thing, but everything else can be turned into a positive. We should be thankful for having such an upstanding forum member. If we thought things were a bit down in our lives, well you've shared something with us that says "hey, it could be worse, but it isn't the end either". You've got lemons a'plenty mate, so maybe Shell can help with some tequila. Take care. -
Still looking after the crippled wife. She can't even get around on crutches so I have to push her in a computer chair (hey - it has wheels doesn't it?) so I won't make any guarantees I will make it.

It's a tar based product on the back of the foil so you would lots of smoke, then a fire so as posted before DO NOT PUT THIS ON EXHAUST PIPE, please!! It is fine for inlet and protecting against radiated heat.

I bet you have never had this problem!!!
GTRgeoff replied to QuickR33Melb's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had this. The wiring inside the wheel was jammed next to some earthed metal. When I turned a corner it would pull tight and the horn would sound. I suggest you pull the fuse, then get the wheel dismantled so you can have a look at the wiring. -
I've been wanting one of these for ages but can't get off my fat lazy arse. Count me in for one.
-
My compliers were kind enought to put the GTR wheel sizes on the tyre placard so I would be covered for larger wheels Speedo's are only a substitute for the revolver in russian roulette down here in vic now Duncan since the Bracks govt legislated a 3kmh blanket tolerance for speed, not the ADR 10%.

Damn Kev. Why did this have to be the MSCA Morwell Hillclimb weekend? Some other time maybe, I have to get out for some competition again.

Here is some info on complaints. http://www.legalaid.vic.gov.au/main1.cfm?c...&InfopageID=127 If they ever pull you over always for the conversations to be recorded, be polite and ask what reason they have to suspect there are defects on your car. They may only search if there are suspicions of weapons/drugs/defects, but they have to have reasonable suspicions and I will suggest they will go away if you ask the question and they are just fishing. Advise you think you are unfairly singled out and will talk to a lawyer and the Police ethics department.

gtr 32 track mods???
GTRgeoff replied to wyld1300's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Isn't that what Hyundai excels are for???????? -
The goal was always cheap and effective. I've achieved both. I'd seen the neoprene done before so wanted to come up with something novel, but neoprene is a great idea.

I'm in guys. Also want to do the Hillclimb on the 15?th at Morwell so a busy 2 weeks. Get the advanced healing bandaids Troy:D

Good grief, look how this thread has accelerated. I go away for a day to care for my recovering wife and bang (leg surgery, both legs so I'm the slave ) I'm left in the pits. Anyway I haven't been hiding from the whalings I've been getting, and deserving because I should have bored the crap out of everyone with excessively long explanatory posts, but essentially all has been answered by Sydneykid and Roy, especially the homologation of GTR vs GTSt. I especially believe that the GTSt would not have been allowed by Nissan after spending so much on their GTR development, and quite rightly too as they want the advertising element without "little brother" raining on the parade. The fact that Roy and I have managed to come together with essentially the same ideals and goals is a bit unreal in itself, but we can feed off each others enthusiasm and ideas, and no sweat on highlighting my poor setup and performance mate, the shame is all mine I'm a lot like Roy, a mechanical engineer frustrated by having to work on military armour and guns and guided missiles instead of being a race engineer. The race engineer option wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Sydneykid planting the seed in my mind (thanks Gary, I'm now spending a fortune on texts and magazines to learn as much as possible), so logically I want to test my abilitites by getting the GTS up to decent times, especially as a showcase for ability. The target times are that of the old zeds in NDSOC on sticky rubber but they are lighter and stripped out race cars not AC and stereo in sight. As another disclaimer, I want a GTR so bad it hurts somedays, but I've made a decision and I stick to it. My car can be less a road car due to there being three other cars available in the garage so I'm going to be a little less compromising in the pursuit of the goal. When I spoke of putting Ben's setup in the GTS, I speak from a system perspective. All the great brakes and suspension is part of the package, less AWD, not just the engine. He has spent a fortune and has my eternal admiration, but apart from the launch (which doesn't happen in sprints) we should all be getting the idea now that dynamically RWD is a far cheaper and easier and lighter option, and any handling/traction deficit is rapidly overcome by the weight advantage, except in the wet. Bens setup is awesome to watch. It is so compliant allowing the power down, and speaks of the mone spent on suspension as well as differential development. I'm keen to see Roy's results, so keen I'm be wanting to be part of the work team, but I'm also keen to see how it compares to mine when I replace the mongrel no breed turbo that puts out 220 rwkw @15psi with something capable of over 300rwkw with a similar power curve shape. The engine is built for it (thanks again SK and others who contributed) so here's hoping there will be another RWD comparision car, just a lardy R33:D I think the goal should not be so much how much power can a RWD handle, as SK has already shown it is out of my budget and probably Roy's, but what is affordable and reliable and streetable. That is looking up around the 300-350rwkw, so gun for that Roy. I'm with you all the way.
