  1. Do you mean the intercooler itself or the wheel arch plastic? I have the stock IC in the for sale section.
  2. Helmet. Try the bandits at Cash Converters. I'd be keen to go with Snowmans advice tho as the CC ones can look pretty mankey.
  3. All welcome to come on Sunday, great coffee and the food looks good. DT take the effort to warm up and bring that nice machine over.
  4. Anytime you want to pick up the dremel tool. I also have some thoughts on the indicators if you want to bring them and see what other tools I have in the garage. I am planning on whipping into the city in the morning to pick up some new gore-tex so hows the afternoon sound? Actually since I need to give you some cash, better make it tomorrow afternoon.
  5. I did the GTR rods with my rebuild with Arias forged 1.0mm OS pistons. I got the full balance, bearings, O rings, lightened flywheel, x rays and crank cleaned out and straightened. I have to say, it may just be the balance and the crank straightening which spun by hand easily when i torqued the crank in (and didn't before), but it felt soooo much smoother afterward. The extra mass of the rods probably limted the ebnefit of lightening the fly.
  6. Better have a re-run then. Anyone interested I will be brunching at the same location at 10:00 (am that is Shan as in the daylight hours) and welcome all to join me. The Lakes Cafe, Mill Park Lakes estate. This time I will attempt to have the staff ensure the fountain is running. BTW that is DT's 34 and it looks sweet.
  7. I have seen a car transformed when the pump was replaced. The faulty one was running but at idle the return fuel was almost non existent, and with a few revs just disappeared. GTR pump installed and plenty power now (but not mine which is choking on fuel unless I run almost full advance. The Bosch one he had just siezed.
  8. I had one apart a couple of months ago. The actual stainless rollers that fit in the ceramic housing kept jamming, either that or it was the brushes. I'll get it so you can have a look sometime as it is just across the road.
  9. sounds like it stalled while you had the clutch disengaged, the power steering doesn't work then. Was it real heavy and then started again when the clutch was let out?? Should try it in a big truck sometimes. Literally too heavy to steer.
  10. Shan, I didn't see the post for the dremel. I have one with a flex attachment and a million tools. Let me know if you want to borrow it 0408 124 767. Was great to meet some new people and have a chance to check out some niiiice rides. Hope we can do it again sometime. There are a few skylines out here that we haven't caught up with yet so run 'em down and have a chat. Also if we can get a Ferrari tour you know who to invite Enjoy the pics, I have full res if anyone wants them. Geoff
  11. Thats the place. See you there.
  12. This may be of interest from the latest Race Car Engineering magazine http://geoffwill.ozforces.com.au/Kart - RC Engineering.pdf
  13. Couple of seasons. Also 12 years rallying on and off, a season in formula ford that I paid per drive. Some sports sedans as well and now just track days.
  14. Yeah but are you coming over tomorrow? I've also invited a mate with a 180 with RB20det.
  15. Warren has it almost right in his explanation, but was probably confused by the Nizpro twaddle. The airflow effectively stops but doesn't flow backward (or not very much) as the compressor is still working to force the air, but there is cavitation causing the woofle noise. Any air that would go back out the AFM would be hot from compression and cavitation and would cause little cooling of the hot wire anemometer, and the mass momentum of the air coming in would still be fighting it as well. Nizpro may have some nice cars going around but Simon got that very very wrong and even changes his argument through the interview. Why then do all turbo rally cars, that rely on throttle response, use a fast acting large bore BOV? I saw them at Bates workshop in ACT when I was whoring myself to them. Doesn't mean Nizpro can't do a mean car tune though from all indications, just don't understand the underlying thermodynamics, aerodynamics/fluid dynamics and dynamic response of the system. There would be no significant reason I could see for No BOV being illegal, but a vented one would as the AFM sees flow that isn't entering the engine, but it is fuelling it anyway causing the black overich puff. I would ask for a written explanation and the legislation/guidelines from the EPA facility. To clarify on the benefits of a good BOV, and I will concede to the expert opinion of anyone with more experience and qualifications in compressed airflow: the BOV is designed to not only prevent back pressure in the turbine causing cavitation in the denser compressed air, thereby slowing the turbo faster, but to maintain the inertia of the airflow in the system. Without a BOV the airflow effectively stops when the throttle is closed, then needs to be accelerated again, and the turbo slows dramatically, also needing to be accelerated again. This energy comes from the exhaust gasses and so creates a momentarily higher back pressure. The result is sluggishness beyond the sum of the individual effects. This can easily be proven through mathematical representation of the system to those who understand. I just changed to a nice atmo BOV plumbed for track (the orig is still on and can be returned to operational instantly) and found an improvement on gear changes. The wheels spin a bit longer changing into third, but then the changes only take about 0.4 of a second anyway. I simply don't like the noise on the road, and attention, but realise the benefits on the track.
  16. Better make the effort, since it is 5 mins away.
  17. Good price, but they are fiercly unreliable at that power level. There is a massive amount done to it though so it would be nice just to have in the garage. Would be worth it except for the hairdresser image.
  18. MMmmmm Have fun. I raced clubbys for a while in Qld. So what is the racing like down here and what class you race? And did you or have you ever spent the afternoon on a weekend screaming around Rolain Ave (near shops) ?
  19. Being an experienced destryer of pistons, 6 in 2 separate incidents, and big end bearings, I would suggest that you have both problems. Standard boost can still cause piston failure if you get a dirty load of fuel, as I did. I have actually gone through $20 in 30km once due to poor fuel quality and it was Optimax. Not long after I killed 4 pistons on standard boost, although both turbo compressor seal and pistons died at the same time on a really hot day. The other time I was racing a porsche turbo and using IC water spray on the stock cooler. Was right under his wing so getting no airflow and heard 2 clear detonations. Result was 2 pistons hairline fractured. A couple of days later I had # 3 big end bearing fail. In my latest rebuild I used Arias forgies from Rocket Industries $1300 delivered overnight and ACL race bearings from RB30 Main and SR20 Big end with GTR rods x rayed, full balance, lighten flywheel, O ring block, crank grind, straighten, clean out and x ray, full block clean out and bored to 1.0mm OS, blocked an oil gallery to reduce oil to the head (same as GTR spec), RB30 oil seals for the cams and oil pump and rear main. Took the block and parts to a good V8 engine shop (Duggans Balancing Reservior) and it cost 1200. Averything else was my own work in the garage including Hybrid monster intercooler. PFC to go in soon. Anyway I know which way I would go, but they are available anyway, only did 20,000km at 11psi but would need an x ray ($20-30) to be certain of integrity.
  20. Geeezuss Barbie. You sure know how to Hijack a thread!!!!
  21. Neill no worries. Wanna PM or email me with details of where to send?
  22. Sunday 10 am. I'll be there regardless. Saw a guy just before in a black 33 with white wheels and I think drift wing doing just that on the roundabout at the bridge into the estate. I was the guy in the Soarer giving the thumbs up. No mailboxes to worry about.
  23. Obviously the oil filter. The front and rear oil seals as well (cams, oil pump and rear main) but they may be OK. Doesn't the VL pump need a mod?
  24. I'm waiting on a nastygram from Ash for convening an unsanctioned meet
  25. Nice macine DT. I've been here bout the same time. We should all do something soon. How about a meet at the lakes coffee shop? We'll park so's we can put up some (sanitised eg no regos) pics later on. I'll bring the digicam. Who's for Sunday morning around 10am for coffee? Just at the coffee shop with the blue signs.
