what would the ARP bolts come in at? When I put mine together I had one that wouldn't accept the torque required and it started to neck, so I found most had been seriously stretched when I measured them, about 3-4 mm. New RB26 bolts from Nissan cost about $180 from memory and had to come from 3 different places to make the set. Even so they pack then in fives...morons...and wanted me to pay overnight freight for the last 2 AND they sent me lawnmower bolts the first time. At least they sent the cutest parts runner around with the last delivery . But she was blonde and wanted me to pay for them again...AAARRRGHHH...save us from Nissan Aust.

I'm starting to think a more traditional turbo replacement altogether, as these Melbourne GTR guys can't get away with having all the fun. Short of a split dump, there is not much in the way. LW no sweat buddy. Snowie, I could imagine you with 700. It would be like light rain on sandown all the time ..........anyone else having traction problems????Hell it's greasy out there LOL. BTW I talked to racebrakes.com and GTR Brembo pads will be $160 per axle so don't waste money on the greenstuff. With 700 rwkw you will be spending plenty on pads -
Hmm nice. The GTR rods are heavier than RB25 so even though I lightened the flywheel I noticed there was only a slight improvement response wise.

Yeah I wouldn't know wouild I. Oh well, I'll just burn the undergrad and masters degrees in mechanical engineering...plus ignore the years of experience, the mechanics qualifications and the wasted effort and millions of dollars of emissions testing and wind tunnel testing large vehicles cos someone read something on the internet not subject to broad peer review and substantiation. man produces around 4% of the worlds ozone destroying greenhouse gasses, unless the oceanographers are wrong. On the boost subject, my 25t's similar to that, as the boost builds then the punch at 4000 is enough to blow rwd traction in third on most road surfaces. I would like a smoother transition so maybe a twin setup might be the answer. My modded turb is pretty laggy though, enough so total stockers get away out of real tight corners...well for a little bit anyway. Wonder if a RB26 exhaust manifold will fit? Anyone want to donate an unused stock set for a few weeks? -

A class I did on marine environment at Uni showed that mans contribution to greenhouse gasses is such a pitiffully small amount compared to what is produced from the oceans floors that there is just a marked interest by those who make a living scaremongering and spending research dollars that keeps it going. Video of people refuting the greenhouse theory 15 years ago followed by their later expert comments that it does exist (while spending said funding) was certainly humiliating for them when they were questioned on their new stance. There is no money in proving something isn't happening so they ummm manipulate the statistical data to generate the required result. I'm not saying throw trash and be asolute filth, but the emissions aspect is mostly bunk. The worlds best simulators say that due to the amount of natural greenhouse gasses produced we should be dead. Wanna know what the "smog" is, primarily? Tyre particulates....rubber and silica. very little is smoke. My cat rests in peace!!! -

Rhett, the burden of proof in such a case rests with the prosecution to prove it was not a self preservation case. As stated earlier, case law developed from common law, which is based upon British common law. Ultimately, the laws of nature such as self preservation are not so easy to make law against, so they are held as fundamental laws of society. Imagine allowing yourself and your family to die because a law disallowed a certain action. Or then you were punished for preserving life. These laws run back hundreds of years, before cameras were present to record every move, so the burden is placed on the state to find evidence to the contrary. -

repost of images. the rest of the article is very race specific so I have left it out. Seriously recommend buying this text due to the broad nature. Also just good reading. Rhett try a search and look through that website I posted for the book. Also look at a mag called Racecar Engineer. In melb there is Kangan Batman TAFE that runs a tech course in race mechanics as well as race engine building...worth a look. Some of the uni's have automotive engineering undergrad degrees but couldn't help me with a masters in race engineering or any of the other areas I am interested in such as automotive management. Searching online you will find a fair amount of info as well. There is also a member on the forum who is highly experienced in race car dynamics and engineering, as well as managing a team (if it still operates after PROCAR closed down) but I won't post his details to prevent him getting bombed with questions. He already does enough and if you are truly interested you will be able to deduce his identity, or he will announce it himself, probably as he adds a mountain of relevant info to this thread.

I got done in Vic for that. Measured it at 20 cm. All of the neighbours got warnings a couple of days before for parking on the nature strip and across the footpath so when they came back they got me, and i had no warning. I asked the reason for a fine due to a minor obstruction and was told that someone could ride a bike into the car...than i mentioned that riding on the footpath is illegal. I got gurgling sounds as the fool on the other end of the phone tried to justify it. Then asked about the warnings and why a letter drop was not done as others had the priveledge...............the fine was dropped. Filthy victorian banana governments. All addicted to money from fines. A friend on the St Kilda council told how the southbank precinct got transferred to melbourne council, losing them 6 mill in rates and other income. So they are aggressively fining parking motorists and recovering at least 4 mill a year, as well as charging more for their parking where a street away you can park for half ($3) on the street for the day.

Governments are getting too addicted to the income from fines (sound like victoria?). So what was the judgement? No contradictory proof of a self preservation/self defence case? -

From a Mechanical Engineers pov, and a concept well understood in racing, a tyre has a maximum grip in any direction, referred to as a friction circle, or more correctly as a friction ellipse. The ellipse is because lateral traction is not equal to longitudinal traction in all tyres. Drifting is essentially braking in reverse, and Jim Clarke was one of the first racers to develop a high degree of understanding in racing. When you apply a cornering force with no acceleration or deceleration you can achieve the total grip available in that direction, but when you apply torque through acceleration or deceleration you now have to resolve the forces in the two directions using a simple Euclidian geometry calculation in vector mathematics. When the forces exceed the traction available through (lets say static as the rolling tyre has certain slip characteristics that overly complicate the discussion) friction then you get wheelspin and a higher sideways slip angle as front tyre drag becomes a more relevant force. Now the other interesting phenomenon is the difference between static and dynamic friction. Once traction is lost and wheel speed increases relative to the ground, the coefficient of friction decreases. Tyre engineers and chemists put a lot of effort into ensuring there is a fairly linear decrease in the dynamic coefficient of friction as the relative speeds increase to generate predictability. the last thing you want is fro the tyre to grip suddenly or to completely lose traction without some indication. Now you have another phenomenon that is related to the contact patch, the pressure in the tyre, and the angle of contact at the contact patch which in itself is essentially flat. As the tyre accelerates, the contact patch grows longer because the tyre "grows" (watch a drag rail do a burnout) due to the centrifugal forces of the tread band. The angle of contact approaches zero but never quite does as if it were to, there would be zero contact patch and zero friction. Think of an integration summation formula. The contact patch also grows narrower as the centre of the tyre bulges further. It doesn't actually "lift" itself due to the angle of contact. Temperature plays a part as previously mentioned as well in the differing cf. As with any problem such as this, locate your points of contact, draw free body diagrams in the plane of contact at each wheel/contact point and look at the magnitude and direction of forces closely and the solution will reveal itself very rapidly, but the key is the reduced contact patch and the variation of dynamic friction. How do I know this? My undergrad thesis was on the drag losses in a moving wheel and the tyre companies where not very forthcoming with specification detail so I had to develop it myself from first principles and verify through testing. This also meant that I had to understand and read through the many other phenomenon that occur within tyre design and development. I convinced the Head of the school of engineering (a physics professor) and the head of the school of mathematics so there must be something right. I continue to study, with a master of engineering, and now toward employment in race engineering after being exposed to the possibilities by one of the forum members. Get a new physics teacher if he did those drawings or found them satisfactory. Remember there are four contact points in the car diagram not one and the tyre theory is fundamentally incorrect. He did get the decrease in contact patch right, but for the wrong reason. Also the coefficient of friction is not a static figure with tyres after loss of traction.

Apparently so....Thread Hijack!!!! then put a 30mm sway bar on the rear (custom from whiteline) and watch as every connected component destroys itself, subframe, coilover mounting points, until you have to weld nice solid brackets in place to compensate for the stresses on track...even the handbrake light locked on with the chassis flex. Oh and then fabricate a custom 2.5 inch straight through exhaust, no cat, no mufflers and a 80mm pod filter through poly drain custom intake then listen to the music :D:D rep...sounds like your build will be nice. PFC too?

A good lawyer should petition the court for costs in the case of the state not being successful in it's prosecution. There is no reasonable justification for you paying for your defence if you are innocent and it adds an object lesson for the prosecutors to not waste resources on bogus legal cases. You will of course be paying expenses up front, but that should be refunded by the state (in this case the Banana Republic Town Council of the ACT) on successful defence. Have an agreement with the lawyer as well for expectations of outcomes and costs overall, as well as defence strategies and reparation requests. -
Get a cylinder of industrial oxygen, add an injector on full pulse with a throttle position sensor to switch it all on at full throttle. Crude but effective. Took a 1.8l Laser Lynx from 10 sec 0-100 to 7 sec flat on stock intake and exhaust, but damn did it burn some plugs out. I'd hate to see the piston tops

I'm with Denham on this. You all ought to be ashamed. This is clearly self preservation and they now have to prove that he didn't move forward to avoid an accident. Talk to a lawyer and see what the case is that you have. You can ask for costs, including the legal assistance if the ACT is wrong. Ask for the photos in writing. A phone call to an ACT lawyer should cost nothing first up as a consultation. I can ask for a recommendation from a friend in ACT for a firm. PM if you wish for my number. Steve, not sure on the precedent there, but case law across Aust is pretty much the same and derives originally from British common law. -
Get sick of wheelspin in second just a toe twitch away. Think it's killed the diff. Left spins way too long on track when the tyres are up to temp. Always sonmething new to deal with.

Sounds good, dont forget the full balance and O rings. Got the same rig in mine. Bearings I put in were ACL race SR20 Big End and RB30 mains. $140 for the set. Do seals as well. Front and rear all are same as RB30 so 3 front oil pump seals and 1 rear mainI'd say every 'serious' 25t owner gets a taste of this.....some of us twice for a total of 6 dead pistons.

As I indicated to another member on the forum, if you have a self defence related argument the police have to PROVE beyond any doubt that it wasn't self defence/protection of life and limb/self preservation. Have a quick chat with a lawyer and do some research on line. An ex-cop in Vic recently had a fine for speeding in a small country town where he lives and has one camera. He claimed a ute pulled out almost tee boning him so he gunned the motorcycle he was riding to clear the hazard as stopping would not have done it. The cops persisted with the case, the magistrate was furious and demanded an explanation as to why they continued to prosecute when thay had no proof that self preservation was not the case. Case closed. Your lucky you wrote a letter. The technicality probably won't rub but you have a case for self preservation. It was specifically noted here that this will cruel every red light camera case, as well as some speed related, in Vic for those in the know. -
