I think it will be track safe on the ZR road tyres up to 250 rwkw, any more and it will overcome the rears and I'll lose time, depending on the tune. If I get some decent sponsorship for track rubber I'll go hunting for 300+ and a few extra rpm. After that it will be head off and solid lifters and new springs. I doubt the RB25 crank will allow the big rpm and power numbers GTRs enjoy on stock internals + forged slugs so the GTR rods will not the the limiting factor. If some bastard at work will give me back my laptop I'll be able to model and FEA the rods for limitations

The valiant starred at the SAU Vic BMT dyno day. Cruising in style!!

Yes but you still have to take into account the second moment of area for flexure/torque and integrated momentum force over cross sectional area to ensure the stress limit is not exceeded or even more importantly the fatigue limit so that discounting wear they will have an infinite life.

March 21...be there or be rhomboidally shaped. Might even get a leave pass for Sat activity too. May not have the tune done by Sandown though. -

Will do on the hp when done, but I don't drag. To setup for a decent time is not real compatible with circuit and vv. No clutch....did you take the handbrake off? Just covering all the bases here. I got my girlie an auto gts and V8 soarer so she wouldn't have a clutch to burn out Nothing wrong with her driving tho. -

Yeh sure...Lethal Lauren. Maybe the black smoke is from the clutch???? You know how girlies are rumoured to ride them a bit :run: . I would seriously recommend a similar build to mine as the engine is as smooth as now and has heaps of power even on std boost. Series 1.5 'puter tho. I can't wait to PFC after the run in. It now just lights up when rolling in 2nd at 40 and spins all the way to redline. The gtr rods will be a bonus for higher rpm so I will make maybe 280-290kmh and around 280 rwkw which is almost too much for track without slicks. -
Is that socially uncouth thing allowed on the streets again? Shelly, take ear plugs I'm told. Or maybe it will be the Val!!

Lauren, you are DANGEROUS, but you can be my wingman(girl) anyday!!! Although, I now have 6 to my record . Is 5 automatically an ace? Simonster?I'm confused as to why it was blowing black smoke. Usually you get black from overfuelling and white/bluish from oil...from vast experince at blowing up everything from lawnmowers to 823hp v10 twin supercharged leopard tank engines (each pot is equivalent to a 186ci holden motor) So what slugs did you go for and whos doing the rebuild. -

And thought it was just us white guys everywhere. No rythm dude. -
If you paint then use etch primer first. Mine look fine but paint is less robust.

Denham, the GTR rods are more heavily tapered out toward the big end giving a greater load area for the forces of higher power/rpm to be withstood. They are also thicker in the web while the 25t rods have more pronounced end plates on the I beam area. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...achmentid=10064 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...achmentid=10063

I put GTR rods in my rebuild with new rod bolts (thanks SK). Can find them cheap on the forum...300 - 400 a set and 140 for bolts and nuts as opposed to the retail price.

And if Greg is rude ask for Geoff....I'll be the one smothered by pit babes or helping out Ozemail No I'm not really from Melbourne. I have a place in Canberra as well but really want to be in Brisvegas....just have to be here for a while.

Insurance assessors don't know jack about anything. When I was a Pro cyclist (a few kg lighter and no stuffed back then) a removalist tried to twist the headstem of my track cycle sideways and snapped the rim clean in half...and the assessor was saying "It's just a bike...why does a new rim cost $600 to replace?" Well new aero blade spokes for $80 and the rim was $400 and the buildup with wired and soldered one cross was $120. "but it's only a pushbike" They have no idea of a quality components value and I'm glad you won DJ.

I had an awesome day today. What a change of focus. Instead of losing some traction and trying to get back on line and in control it was about losing traction and maintaining control and line. Totally different to anything I have done previously and eventually achieving a full lap sidways with minimal steering input was a true challenge and a real blast. Kevin is an absolutely awesome controller of a car, demonstrated by by getting into a totally new machine time and again and throwing it around like he drives it everyday. I remain impressed as hell. Once I would have looked at this sort of thing and thought "you want to drive the car sideways...why?" The truth is, there are not always perfect conditions and this is without a doubt an essential skill...just hope I don't need to use it.

Thats the cam solenoid.....so check it as well

I was at the motorsport expo yesterday and spoke to a guy who does 102 RON 90 MON fuel without ethanol. About 95 for 20 litres. He had a nice increase from a carb VK commo stroker but hasn't yet tried a real car and I told him about wanting to tune for 98 and touluene. He wants to come on board at the tune session and do a comparo for his stuff which he can pay for the dyno and fuel. Formula 4000 race fuel I thin it is and he has been doing High Quality lubes for 30 years so may be interesting. I'll post up some info later.

Jimbo2000 I thought the same of mine, as did a few workshops, and pulled the head down and it was not the lash adjusters but number 3 big end. Drain the oil and look for gold sparkles and flakes...sure sign of the bearing damage. Hope it isn't tho. You can get ACL race heat treated mains for RB30 and SR20 big ends for about 140 though plus machining if it is.

I will, I just wanted SteveSST to comment in detail to add to the value of this thread instead of negativity.
-
A basic Motec system will cost $3 K Steve-SST, but maybe they do a "special" for the WA folk to make them feel special. So is there actually a point to your comment? I don't think SK's credentials are in need of establishment, and he at least shares some knowledge and experience regarding the items of interest......not a basic "use the Wolf". Perhaps you could elaborate as to why the Wolf is a better solution. I have had a little to do with Wolf in Melbourne through a friend but am still undecided on a new computer and they are currently a maybe.

How many kays has it done since rebuild? It could be a big end. Does it go away a bit at certain rpm but comes back on liftoff? They sound like they are coming from the cam covers...from experience recently.
