  1. I agree Willo, so I'm active with the roadsense group. I don't agree that radar or laser is sufficiently accurate at the price they get them for, and nor is it subjective. I was assistant chief engineer in the weapons program with laser and radar guided weapons. I also feel the human factors are not sufficient to always be right on the speed.

Speed limits were a mostly advisory once upon a time and now they are a hard deck above which you will immediately explode killing everyone in a 5km radius......

But seriously they are just becoming a money grab for state Labour governments. Money not working in the local economy as it goes straight to govt. Most Libs are against tighter tolerances and limits. Should try make it an election issue sometime.

  2. The question remains, are these locations that are actually dangerous causing serious accidents or somewhere that it would be more than safe to have a higher limit?

If they cause accidents why not fix the road?

  3. A guy here in Brisbane does them,NV N01, as well as HICAS bars. Pretty good prices and good products hence I don't do the bars anymore.

Al, just loosen everything, drop the front of the cradle down after removing the lower pineapples and put the split ones above the cradle at the front. You only use 4 at a time. you will need a bar to lever the cradle down far enough to install mate. Better yet get the Alloys. I could feel the rear of the GTR squirming with the pineapples and now there is too much grip with the Alloys for skidpan work. I can only assume the cradle bushes were pretty doughy and the pineapples not enough to help it.

What you will notice is a bit of drop in the rear when accelerating hard but no other real issues.

Ben I saw your dyno chart. An extra 70rwkw at 80kmh. Pretty nice.

  4. i'd have to say i disagree with u gtrgeoff. i dont think you have to be involved with circuit racing to enjoy driving. If you use your car to get from a to b, your lazy or your into drag racing then an auto is the way to go but if you take pleasure out of driving even if its on the road manual is definatly the way to go. I also dont believe wanting a manual over an auto says anything about your driving ability or boosting your ego

Actually almost 25 years of racing, modifying, specialist driving, instructing and heavy special loads (more than 500K km) and tracked vehicle operation usually speaks for itself.

Sure, have an opinion, but maybe back it with some real experience.

What I see is every wannabe street racer that thinks they are the next Fangio believes they have to have a manual to be a great driver, to be fully involved in the experience. I'm suggesting that the problem is not the transmission but the driver. There are a large number of "real" race drivers I know (even some in the V8 paddock) that drive premium auto vehicles without loss of Penis.

I am absolutely not convinced that you have to have a manual to be an involved or good driver. I also don't think that it is worth doing the conversion. Buy a manual? Sure! Use it properly? Great! Do the conversion because your street cred doesn't cut it? Think again.

If you aren't a skilled driver Dantay then get to the track and grab some laps with a driver in an auto. Don't believe that you need the manual.

Of my current 5 cars 3 are manual and 2 are auto. The V8 ute needs the auto to pull 2500kg of race car or boat as the manual only pulls 1600kg. So much for the a to b, lazy or daily comment. The 500hp GTR goes without saying but I have thought of doing one in an auto for my wife who is disabled. Lazy? I don't think so. How about injured in the line of duty? Service to her country and all that. The Race car was always a manual but the right auto setup would speak for itself behind a 750HP 26/30 setup. Then the V8 Soarer would just not be the right car with a manual.

Dantay there is also the search option. Look for Dangerman and his adventures pulling over 300rwkw in an auto R33. Be cooler than the Dorifto wankers. Have a slick auto and lern to drive it. For many years I instructed trainee off road drivers in the benefits of an auto especially if they weren't always on the job but was ridiculed by the "real" drivers. Now almost all of roaders are auto, plus the off road vehicle I used was a 17 ton 6x6 with a 5 speed crash box.

    Real drivers indeed.

  5. Yeah! Bignose is such a putz he took the wall and launched back into Frosty.

I think luck had nothing to do with it. Simply trying too hard at the wrong end of the event.

The talent at the front though was great to see. Fast, clean and despite the last round controversy last year Garth was a worthy race winner.

  6. Usually a desperate need to convert to manual is a lack of real driving ability and a need to try and prove that you are cooler than you are.

If you need a manual then I assume you are going to race on the circuit. If so then buy one and make it run hard but learn to drive first, then concentrate on brakes and handling before going for power.

If you are a daily driver with no track desires then you are kidding yourself as an auto will run over 300rwkw on a PFC with a MV Autos shift kit and will be quicker through traffic and nicer in town.

  7. Good points. A decent tuner will work with what he has and extract the maximum from that. Used to be anything over about 20 psi was considered a high boost situation, but that is going up.

Ultimately it is all relative to peak combustion pressures and mean effective pressures (MEP) in the cylinders to calculate the available torque and power.

A classic example is Honda tuners throwing a low pressure turbo on a stock motor and then using that to improve power. Still has good low down, and builds a whack of power up through the rev range. Still a Honda though

9:1 is still a decently high compression too. Consider the big lump of 5.4L V8 in my BA ute. Only runs 9.5:1 CR and is cammed for reasonable high rpm power.

  8. Two schools of approach. Big boost means low CR as a general rule. High CR then you stay low boost but get off boost response. Fairly simple but off boost I get wheelspin in second out of corners. Haven't seen knock over 12 on the logger with 7 psi and fooling around with the tune and timing.

  9. Big showing by Ford and Queenslanders. Just had to go out for a lap in the BA XR8 Ute.

Well actually I was sent to get dinner :)

I was seriously impressed with Juniors' drive. Here is a man that perhaps doesn't ooze natural talent but damn he works hard and finally a worthy result.

So 4 rounds left? I wonder if Garth will be doing any blocking for the 90lb weakling this year, or give it a punt for himself?

  10. Skaife is due for a nose job and that is all.

As for talent? What about [P]rick Kelly winning the title last year??? At least Junior is just inheriting in an honourable way and not making teams whore themselves for Dads' money Kel.

Plus I'll pay to see Kel and Neil do the 'rod in chequers. Duncan, tell me where to paypal the payment mate.

Final word. See last years result. 888 FTW even in a new car.
