Bnr32 Cant Get Seating Position Correct...
GTRgeoff replied to GeeTR's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Roman aren't even listed as an onseller. http://www.idealseat.com.au/ BTW mine are the basic SR-3 seats -
It was all you pathetic *Ricks deserved. 'Sif we'd want to waste good Queensland weather on mexicans. That's the time for rain to convince you all to stay here. Qld Premier is going to slap a tax on the old folks coming up from down south to pay for their amenities. I'll happily think of you all as I'm getting my blood temps back above that of a stone in the high alps in winter. Remember I've had 6-1/2 years to utterly despise the weather down here. Not some hopeless week away. I do remember my final winter in ACT. Beautiful snow drifting down......enough to pull out the board and slip in a couple of runs down the back yard. Enjoy....losers!! Deep in your hearts you all know how crap it is here. No-one with a clue comes to Melbourne for a fantastic beach holiday. * silent P as in *Rick Kelly

Brakes And Track Days

Never ever use Greenstuff on the track, especially on a car over 1100kg. Evne Greenstuff warnagainst it in their cattledog. -
Bnr32 Cant Get Seating Position Correct...
GTRgeoff replied to GeeTR's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Mike, I never checked the model. Pretty basic as far as I know but with the build of Rugby Union prop and 100kg @ 176cm the wings are exceptionally well fitted to me. RR canberra used to have a good range when I lived there but I left in 2000. They used to be pretty helpful so ask if they know of some you can try out or ask the ACT members of the forum. The sheer rigidity of the Recaros puts the stockers well in the shade. The downside is no auto slide forward on the passenger side when you tilt but back seaters are a pain anyway. -
Al, there is a fairly detailed answer required there, but it depends on the technology used. In the case of radar we have seen parked vehicles and slow coucil buses on a huge uphill climb being booked for outrageous speeds. There is just no reasonable argument for a citation from a cameras within 10kmh of the speed limit and it should be left to the human element (Police Officer) to determine whether the speed travelled is considered dangerous, else it is just revenue raising. Feel free to email me or give me a call if you want to have a thorough answer.

Chris, if you elect to fight this in court, and drag the time out then you may recover enough points to hold onto your license when you eventually decide to pay the fine and a little bit extra for the privelege. They cannot remove the points until you have been found guilty or choose to pay the fine. If you state you are not guilty then they have to prove it, not just arbitrarily take the points until you prove you are not guilty. If they have then the Vic govt is taking a substantial chop at your rights, but then you are a motorist - the worst type of mass murderer ever......

No! It simply shows that you can't make an arbitrary decision on the best RPM for your towing needs. Not one single engine will tow unless the gearing and clutch is matched unless you are using electric. What I tried to highlight is the flexibility of a mere 11 litre 280 hp 6 cylinder turbo deisel Mack through a 5 speed crash box. To start and move a 70 ton triple roadtrain prime and load behind a 17 ton truck with that geartrain takes a bit of driving skill but it can be done (even with the tiny torque/ton value), and it is a hell of a lot scarier than towing a car on trailer behind a 1600kg performance car with plenty of torque/ton and brilliant road handling. Clearly you didn't take the time to comprehend that. Back to the point for the first poster, it is fine to tow with any Skyline as long as you are sensible about your driving style (which i will assume you are given you haven't stated how long you have had the Datto and what you used to tow it) and the towbar is fabricated in such a way as to ensure the load is properly transferred through the towing vehicle. Balance the car properly on the trailer so it just puts a light load on the tow hitch, thereby preventing too much loss of front axle weight and ensure the car is well restrained against fore/aft movement and sideways especially if it is a drag car on low pressure tyres. Enjoy and ignore simple prejudices against what style of car you use to tow. I apologise for being dragged off topic and breaking my rule number 1: avoid having a battle of wits with someone who comes completely unarmed.

Plenty of small capacity engines tow just fine with plenty of torque. It's in the length of the stroke and while the 26 isn't oversquare it still rolls easily off the line without having to rev it's guts out. The heavy Recovery Mack I operated didn't even get to 3K rpm so there blows another well founded opinion. 2100 was redline. 11 litres and only 280hp through a 5 speed dog box sometime with triple roadtrains hooked up. You knew how to drive or your gearbox did a lot of teeth cleaning. So basically you base your opinion on personal feelings rather than fact and common sense. Pity. Meybe then you could say it is completely without any value then and maybe could have declined the urge to offer your highly considered position.

It's amazing how simple people can be at times. They are just cars. The substructure on a 33 looks fine for towing, and I would assume a 32 is fine as well, but would check first. The torque of a GTR is fine for towing as well, you just choose a decent clutch when the opportunity presents. They will be fine for a 6x4 and a small amount of transferrable structural reinforcement off the rear cradle will allow towing a car trailer. But then I only have about 730000km of heavy vehicle operation in the heavy salvage and repair field before undertaking an engineering degree, so maybe I'm not looking at the concept the way all you guys with all the experience and knowledge you clearly have. Towing is an exercise in balance, restraint and predicting the next problem to overcome be it traffic or road. You can't expect to drive like it is at Bathurst. Come to think of it, how many of you have actually driven much on racetracks as well? I think there are too many people that define themselves by their hero worship of a motor car and fail to see the flexibility of the equipment. I intend to tow my race car with the GTR, because I can. The rest of you can feel free to stand in the pits and watch. I see a clear lack of experienced opinion in this thread, and sorry to have to say it but if you don't have essential knowledge to offer a valuable opinion then you are just wasting peoples time and looking like as goose.

2006....hmmmm. Is it that time already? Highlights: The couple of DECAs I managed to make, almost winning one in the wet. Dragging myself out to a couple of other club events. SAUVic - keeping me from being completely mindless with boredom. Lowlights: Another year of a broken track car sitting around and unable to fix it. PI not having the pleasure of me cutting laps there. A lot of time not being able to get out, let alone drive a car. More surgery and the very slow recovery. Weather that can't make its friggin mind up. 18 month overdue from the absolute date I wanted to be back in Qld. The thought of having to leave SAUVic friends behind when the time comes.... A shot I took on one of the few dives I got out on.

Bnr32 Cant Get Seating Position Correct...
GTRgeoff replied to GeeTR's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I hated the stock GTR seats, and when I had to remove the drivers to weld it back together realised what a cheap piece of factory junk it is. I replaced with Recaros and Recaro rails - in a word - Fantabulicious!! Stiff and the right shape for someone with shoulders. Paid $1K 2nd hand in awesome nick and got $1100 for the factory puss. I also have a MOMO race wheel which is a bit too close to the indicator and wiper controls on the boss, so bought an adjustable extender, a bit like a shock platform adjuster, and now the wheel is close to me for more comfortable driving and the indicators are well out of the way, plus the pedals are adjusted for heel and toe so it's almost perfect. -
Gone From A R32 Gtr To A 99 Rex ?
GTRgeoff replied to ish's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I drove a bugeye evo 5 Rex yesterday to help a mate with a few problems. What a piece of poo!!!!! Stinking gutless understeering junk. Doesn't deserve to share the same discussion with a GTR. Pretty handy for shopping and carparks tho I suppose, but I have another Skyline for that. -
Geezus this place sh*ts me........ Spence called from the Sunshine Coast to say he was sipping a coldie with just a light beading of sweat on his brow. Just warm enough to make the beer even more enjoyable.

Your Thoughts On Gtr-wannabe's!
GTRgeoff replied to Sky GTR Nguyen's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I actually think people ought to be called out if they run a GTR badge on a GTSt. Public shaming is too good for them. A good kit etc is fine but there are considerable differences overall, especially in the driving. I have a GTR33, an auto GTS25t which I have maintained a lowline look with the stock series 1 wing, skirts and rear pods, and the track GTS25t on which I have the GTR style adjustable wing, twin turbo setup on the RB25 and soon to have the 6 throttles and GTR plenum, and most likely a 3 litre bottom end. Each has its own application but only one gets the badge. -
Gtr Polished Plenum $170
GTRgeoff replied to cookiebear's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Yep, as Ash said, that is most definitely a standard GTR plenum. I have 3 here The price looks pretty fair too. A lot of work in bringing them up. -
Black Fmic Kit - Anodizing Vs Powder Coating Vs Painting
GTRgeoff replied to QRI05E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I don't recommend you use just any old paint, it stilll has to have some thermal transfer properties and most paints are an insulator of sorts so the radiator stuff is the go. Matt black is the ideal property for radiating and absorbing heat with powdered gold being the most matt material known. Polished is extremely poor for radiation. Try your polished exhaust tip after a decent drive, see how warm it feels by putting your hand close to it but don't touch. It won't give off much heat, but if you spray a little water on it will boil off. -
Yeah all the best Deren. Most Skylines have a 2 speed setup on the fuel pump. Just bypass that by running direct fused power to the pump through a relay, using the regular pump power to operate the relay. See if that fixes the problem.
-
Step one, check the throttle position sensor is at the right voltage - 0.5V (max is 4V). Then muck with the IAC.

Take it to a radiator repair shop and get them to paint it. Their stuff is made for the job. -
Take it to an engine reconditioners for an acid dip/clean. Would be lucky to be $30. When you see how much material remains in a block after machining and honing you would be worried about the remains, but for an extra $70 my reco shop does a full pre build clean and bags the block and it is spotless.

That is true Pie. They have a larger thread (R33=16x1 - R32=14x1.5) and are 10mm longer.

GTRgeoff replied to cookiebear's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
And not one single stud hole on the RB26 plenum lines up with any on the RB25. -
I don't see the problem. There are good mounting points under the rear and I expect they will be compatible with GTSt, at least on the 33. I intend to put one on the GTR33 if necessary to get all my cars to Brisbane, just to save me one extra drive then shift it to the auto GTS25t. Either way, it is at the end of the day just a car and would be a damn fine one for towing.

That is some nasty scratching, but the glass looks clear (not tinted - that is the glass itself) so maybe try to polish the scratches out with a mechanical buffer.
