My Restoration
GTRgeoff replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Borrow the work tools FTW mate Not too many EBCs will allow boost curve programming, although I'm no expert there as I have the Jaycar boost controller to use which can perform that function. I recall it maps off the duty cycle or such but I have to re-read the instructions as I haven't completed the build yet. Really looking forward to seeing some nistune examples though so I can see if I can port my tunes into it from the PFC. Then I can say "But It's Stock Officer " even as he pulls the kick panel out. What controlled boost id good for though is traction control. If you have problems with controlling power out of certain corners on a track (or the street) due to turbo response you can reduce the boost/power to maintain a smooth power delivery. Most dyno tunes though are just pure power runs at WOT so they want the boost as fast as they can get it to ramp power. Then of course most average drivers can't get the concept of limiting power by means other than the throttle so don't see the need to play with tuning during regular driving, so unless there is a problem that really highlights itself they won't see a need to get a road tune done. Of course after road tuning for driveability they are completely converted but you have to demonstrate that first. -
I may get out there to watch my mate Simon in his Sil80 which is 25 powered. Starting to get the times down to the 57s now which isn't bad for a streeter.

My Restoration

Dangerous territory with the tuning mate. Or so others will have you believe. Just get a good wideband O2 unit and you should be fine. I have 2 of the Innovate ones. A basic laptop hookup and another with a handheld output to ensure the laptop is correct. Self calibrating in free air and only $300-500 depending on which you buy. Cheaper than most tunes....... Of courser I run mine through the FCDatalogit for PFC. Black box edition so it runs on all PFCs. -
Agreed. Lunatikk got me a pair of 275/35/18 with so much tread on them it's crazy, and the price was so good it's just silly to think of buying new. I was going the Federals 595RS but apparently they are out of stock ATM awaiting a new range with different compounds.

Sif I care numbnuts. Go find it if it's that important to ya.....but being a 30 hybrid it will have about twice what Noel is packin.
-
That'd be the estate (station wagon for us educated Aussies) version. Make it black with dark windows and it is a dead set Hearse for rent......
-
First one of those I saw Ben, I thought it was a hearse too. Chrysler still think they have done something special....but it is just a little bit wrong. More truck than car.
-
An hybrid that is doing decent numbers....... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...ml&st=6560# 415kw = 556hp

Hmmm, no interest. I'm sure there will be a few out there but once you start to pull that kind of power people find they have to try to hide it or give away all their "secrets". So, no comers then? Guess I'll have to drag the GTR down and see what it can deliver, then back that up with the racecars 26/30. Actually swung a spanner today on both of them for a bit so I might even be well enough soon to actually finish the odd job and get out for a race.

Yep, plenty more good research and opinion in here Deren. Ceramic stockers are not your friend...as you know.

Maybe we could try the carpark meetup, but bring the daggiest oz-built trash we have. I could roll in with my somewhat shabby lookin XR8 ute, Noel you bring the Patrol etc...etc... That way we can see if it's just the carpark is off limits or if it is Import targetting. But really, I think the drags would be far more fun to hang at.
-
That is damned nasty Brendon. Make sure you get everything in writing mate so they cannot weasel out of the agreement.

Good effort on the new loom and stand alone. Just hope there are no issues. Have you done some continuity checks through the loom to make sure it is all good? Small thing like that can save a lot of headaches later if you are fault finding. Looking forward to seeing her running.

Well done on deciding on getting out there Ben. +1 for the Timeattack days. Also look at the weekend events run by QR as they aren't too bad and have a lot of fairly normal cars running. As stated you need very little up here to get out on QR or Lakeside or even Morgan Park for example. We have a relatively strong contingent of racers in Qld that get out there regularly so don't be afraid to walk up and say hello. The only other thing you really need out there is to limit your expectations and drive sensibly. Build your speed through the day and try not to outbrake yourself into any corners just yet. Ignore the laptimes of everyone else as well as any rubbish anyone else might pile on you for maybe being slower than drivers in lesser cars. It will happen, it has happened to everyone that has gone onto a racetrack. You are doing more by taking a steady day out there and learning then most of the latte sippers around the place who are Gran Turismo experts So enjoy and feel free to ask any questions you want. There are no stupid ones unless they are the ones you don't ask.

Coming down the Bruce Highway into Brisbane I was overtaken by a Maserati 3200GT. Sounded absolutely brilliant. Pity they have such a bad rep for reliability or I'd buy one.
-
That's a good relationship to have, but it never hurts to ask why. I've known plenty of guys who have gone to the favourite/trusted workshop and have left forever several thousand dollars poorer that they finally realised they didn't need to be. So good luck anyway and I hope they look after you properly.

My Restoration
GTRgeoff replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
During the drive after the tune mate. Ham fisted was all it was. Down in Vic too but since I'll be selling it later I'll need to sort the box out. First priority will be running it at the Nissan sprints at QR with Time Attack, then I'll work on getting the box out for you to earn some bucks from me. -
ACTUALLY I STUFFED UP. Sorry, I've been hammered on morphine for the last 2 weeks. It has to go OUT 1-2mm to ease the tension a little. Correcting other post now.
-
You're welcome. There is space there and with the belt I got (which is the recommended one in the guide) it was a tiny bit too tight initially. Tension is perfect now but it needs no adjustment. I noticed some tool in another thread that thinks that 30 hybrids need to be absolutely right...well more that it is very easy to screw up the job and have an absolute pig of an engine. Anyone having those problems? I'm not but I can't find the thread so further assistance and support can be offered from the other experienced lovers in here
-
Pleased to be of assistance. I'm off back to a nerve damage, based drug coma guys.
-
Well it depends whether it has warped the head or not. I've had a lot of cars I just pull the head, do a little checking for flatness or maybe a little skim at the reco shop and new head gasket and it is on. Would be lucky to make $500 of work and parts. New engine $1500 pull and refit engine, up to $1K at some places. Sounds very dodgy to me but I don't know the extent of the damage exactly. After more than 20 years working in or managing the industry I've seen a lot of dodgy bills produced.

My Restoration
GTRgeoff replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Good stuff Deren. Since I'm pretty crippled atm I'll have to bring my gearbox from the racecar over for a reco mate, once it comes out. Cash job of course . A top quality tuner smashed the syncros in 3-4 and at oil change the bits came out the bottom. I drive it like a race box anyway but it would be nice not to have a crunch when I forget to shift hard. -
Yeah that was the one. And the Rolls drophead ban be done with a timber rear deck of some type. The boat show as all about floating penises. Very few liveaboards, it was all flashy open plan style for impressing the corporate whores. Some good stuff on sale. A supplier in Archerfield has a finish you can brush on and not know the diff between that and sprayed 2 Pack except it was much smoother....... Spotted this if you need another James.... http://www.graysonline.com.au/sale.asp?SALE_ID=116464

Dave, I'm wondering why you are going a new engine? Did it bend a rod?
