I'd bring it across another mm or 2 away from the centre. Mine needs no adjustment atm once the belt is on and a little extra space would be nice. [edit] gave the wrong direction [edit]

If you feel up to a drive out to Ipswich I have one for a series one sitting here ready to fit. It should pass inspection without needing to be completely hooked up. I'm a bit crippled atm so won't be leaving the house for a few days. It is missing the screws to attach the airbag but finding some should be easy at a hardware. call 0408124767 if you still need it.

Another urban myth. Fortunately there are a lot of us on here with plenty of experience Michael so take a look in the new forum area for RB30 hybrids. Fortunately you can avoid the ones just telling furphies.....they never add all the problems that supposedly occur. Send me an email if you want to talk about the conversion.

Just adding some info as I was asked to. This is more than a fluid flow problem as it involves some thermodynamics as well. Ignore the effects of hot piping as the air flow is so fast that it has almost no time for heat to exchange. As the air exits the compressor housing it also usually runs into a larger pipe. This has good implications as the air when it expands gets cooler, just like refrigeration uses a capillary tube into an expansion pipe to create the cooling effect in a fridge. Also when the air enters the larger pipe it increases static pressure head with a drop in velocity, so pressure increases a small amount. Simply put P1xV1=P2xV2 So the effect of the air expanding both increases the pressure/density and reduces temperature with increase in density. The same again happens through the intercooler which also pulls more heat out of the air making it more dense again. So we have an air charge that has expanded a couple of times and had a cooling process or 2 thrown in, hopefully with minimal pressure drop across the intercooler (efficiency of design) with maximum cooling. So, does the size of the piping need to be larger/smaller exiting the intercooler? What size is about right? Every bend in the piping attracts a pressure drop due to restriction depending on the sharpness of the angle. Also every inch of straight piping exhibits a phenomena called turbulent wall growth which means the pipe appears to become smaller along its length. Even with the increased density the smaller volume of the charge means the entry and exit should be about the same without causing pressure drop due to increased viscosity. About 3 inches (75mm) is considered a good size up to 800hp. The standard radiuses for 3" piping are of a gentle enough radius that they have minimal effect for the diameter of the pipe and the diameter itself can deliver sufficient flow even with losses due to length. Space is a problem if you continue to use the over engine routing so 2.5" (60mm) will do if your power expectation is not massive...say below 500hp or about 300rwkw for a system without too many bends.

GT anything being a "sim"??? Totally ridiculous. None are even close.

There is a region below the washer bottle where the GTR piping is run through as standard and the rail is exactly the same in a 33 GTSt. It even has the shape stamped. Cutting the hole and finishing with a little reinforcing is generally fine. Do a good job, tell them it is factory and if they want proof get a mate with a GTR and show them or take photos.

No, you use it inside a larger pipe or in an airbox. Take a look in the stock ones on a Skyline. Little bellmouths. Also in the HKS pod (which is a piece of junk BTW) there is a nice one with a gradual flare. Made a nice exit from the custom airbox on my race car which has the AFM, twin turbos and high compression 3 litres of goodness. But what would us engineers know hey Kyle. Drifters have invented everything so far, just ask them. Do well on the exams mate. They don't need to be a full rolled lip either, just a nicely curved entry into the piping.

It's an acquired taste mate, but most won't try it because they don't want to be in the sub zero section of the cool wall. Teak decking? That reminds me the big boat show is on at Sanctuary Cove. Most go for a look and get ideas for the 40 footer.

Nobody here mate. See my sig.

He's doing a legend job. Happy birthday mate. Chuck a search to see what people have been saying about you...... -
Hey look, they have their own Ash there in the mod section....... Boostlosers anyone? If anyone has enjoyed Derens' GTR32 restoration drop him a birthday hello here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ha...32-t220018.html

All the best today mate and thanks for sharing the GTR32 restoration. Who was that guy that called me all those years ago that had problems with the bolt through his harmonic balancer??? Now look at you. Still have the Skyline GTR passion after all those dollars http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Re...on-t140022.html

Bet you have a "Duc" hidden away in the garage with no redline on the tach and factory option 3 day beard and woggy voice..... -

Then pull your engine out and replace it. Don't ask for advice if you are: 1. too foolish to have worked it out beforehand, and 2. a weekend warrior who is going to bash the advice of an engineer that has worked in the V8SC pits. What would you like? Shall we get a roster together of people who are going to come hold you hand? It's not the mediocre power figure that is critical. It's banging it hard on the limiter. Even the most incompetent drivers will soon learn not to. The only other option aside for staying off the limiter is lift the redline to where you can't hit the limiter. Common enough practice if you are aware that it isn't there for every day. For Sandown I used to run an extra 500rpm so I didn't have to shift up between turns 1 and 2, but I didn't then use it for the rest of the track and it was locked down again as soon as the day was over. Now, it's the weekend, so either get back in the playpen son or go do some of that traffic light drags you must be aching for. -

Just stay off the limiter and you should be sweet guys. -
Not necessarily, you can use compressed air inside the cylinder to hold the valve up while you replace the springs, but I'm not sure who does it and drop one valve and it can be head off.... It would take a very specialised toll to compress the springs to remove the retainer collets.

I paid $60 for a complete RB30E bottom end for the race cars' 26/30. Totally untouched, standard sizes across all internals, and even with super gluggy oil..........machining was about $1400 including head skim and $2100 for the Spool rods and CP piston package.

My Restoration
GTRgeoff replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Wait until the GTR is fresh and handling well mate. The S15 dream will disappear pretty quickly, especially since they have spaghetti for gearbox parts in the 6 speed. So it would be a labour of {something....certainly not love} once you feel the urge for some extra go. I drove one once, and it was ok and they look alright but just so not a Skyline. It was a tighter fit than a GTR32 for me and I recall you aren't so little anymore This is something special happening though. I remember how much you were into it before you started the massive build and I doubt I will ever see the day you get rid of this one, just as I plan to have the 33 forever, and plan to die in it when it all gets too much. Have you thought about protection? I recently picked up a car bra for the 33 on ebay for about $120 second hand but almost unused. Sure thay look crap and wanky but after I get the paintjob I will want to have it and like the idea of being able to remove it for paint maintenance. Plus I see a number of the cars that P1 Supercar club that I have driven are protected by a thin film of tough plastic over the front panels which I was contemplating until the car bra popped up. -
Straight fit or did you use some aftermarket/GTR items to fit?

There are a number of wreckers. The one at Seventeen Mile Rocks is worth a call. Yellow Pages will help with their number and address.

Glad it helped John, and good to see someone that isn't comfortable on the spanners having a go. Before you know it, with an attitude of having a go, you will be building an engine. That's not that hard either. Apparently Duncan, the champion donk luncher has built some

I think there are some. Try Blackhole Motorsports as a starter for finding downloads. http://www.bhmotorsports.com/

Likewise, massive respect for the building and tuning of a 1200hp drag engine. My interest though lies, like most others, in the other areas of throttle rather than just wot for the purpose of either daily driveability or decent response on the circuit. Of course they do have the odd car they have tuned at the timeattack events. So I'd assume they must cover the spectrum as Drag cars won't pay the bills so definitely worthy of a visit. Best we not let this turn into another pointless vs thread...... Actually, what are they asking /hour for tuning? Anyone? Always great to have fallbacks for the club members and since they are right next to my favourite Dive store in Brisbane I can always lob in to see how a tune or such is progressing and go talk diving. Best of both worlds there. I do my own tuning now so have little need for a dyno other than the occasional power pull to see where it's at. 220rwkw is about the limit on stock injectors, but doing it on the stock turbo is a big push and just asking for the turbine, which is ceramic, to fly apart and lodge neatly into the cat. Start hunting a new turbo before you are forced to....might save some expensive engine damage.

Hay Paul, we don't all just wanna go quick in a straight line If you want the fastest track car in Oz there is an argument to take it to Racepace Melbourne.... so "best" is maybe a bit ambiguous. $150/hr is better, but one of the best tuners I've come across is Wayne at Meridien in Melbourne. When he was at SelectMaz they only charged $130/hr for the first hour then $90/hr after that. Took 45min on the dyno to do my GTR without anything to work off as a starting point. After many years as a professional in the mechanical industry I'm a bit concerned about the dyno prices here in SE Qld. For those prices they should do it very fast, be absolutely perfect and have zero dissatisfaction.
