  1. You say you want a sim? Those platforms are just arcade junk and cannot compare in any way with a decent PC with a race simulator.

Get a decent monitor, I use an 80cm LCD. Decent steering wheel, Logitech G25 force feedback. build your own cockpit if you have the room. Of course you will have to spend some bucks on a decent box to run it.

You can then tweak, adjust and add tracks, cars and physics to your hearts content and race online in some awesome leagues.

Or you can buy a toy and enjoy mindless unrealistic boring rubbish, but you'll feel like a champion because the physics are designed to be self gratifying.

My preferred sims in order of greatness

    GP Legends

    GTR2

    GTR

    Live for Speed

    RFactor

Note there are no platform games there.......they are not simulations.

  2. Hunt around a few brokers. I pay bugger all for the GTR.

I'd tell you who my actual insurer is, but they don't have many imports and so their premiums reflect that. Other insurers that have been stung with repair bills for imports have cranked the premiums up to ridiculous.......... so I don't use them any more.

  3. Mick, I would first get some caster adjusters and try that out. When the HICAS is disconnected it stops the slow speed light steering from kicking in, but with extra caster it allows easier steering so it isn't noticeable. Also pull the light from the dash and it should be fine. Try get about 7 degrees caster.

  4. entry to go and watch the sprints is - wait for it - FREE!!

depending upon how my saturday goes and we dont have to call in the police, I will be heading out for a looksie.

QR Sprints, been there, won that ;)

Maybe time to take on the time attack sprints then ;) Be nice to have your machine out there amongst the fast machines like giant.

The saturday crowd don't impress me much.

And yes, proper racing is free to watch. Unlike the tools in drift who think you should pay to watch practice.

  5. Some impressive photos there Zennon, nicely done.

I think I need to reiterate what a great job was done by the events team. Also a special thanks to Paul (Mountainrunner) for the Time Attack Tees that were donated and to everyone who behaved themselves on the cruise. A couple of people seemed to want to unleash their power and impress us all but on the whole everyone was restrained. I also hope that everyone avoided photos and making special donations with the folks in blue parked along the way with their Greed Camera.

Also a reminder that this week I intend to have CAMS affiliation documentation submitted which will mean full public liability insurance for the club and CAMS licenses available for those that want them. We will also start the ball rolling for the occasional non-speed event to add some extra activity and entertainment and to complement Pauls Time Attack track days under CAMS provisions and guidelines.

    A great day, Cheers.

  6. Alex has it right. Must have some experience

My point was the cost for something special does not have to be astronomical and you can do stuff yourself. :(

Not including turbo or manifolds or injectors, and not set up for AWD but who would want me to pre-select what they want? I love plenty of punch down low.

Total time comes to about 25 hours labour, engine out to engine in if it were to come to that. Call it 30 for a little slack time for stuffing about and workshops that don't know how to work fast. I'm simply doing this one because I love to build motors and someone else gets the benefit because I'm not greedy.

As far as I'm concerned anyone who is physically ok and can read and has moderate intelligence can build an engine, and all the rest you save on labour and getting ripped off for a workshop name can pay for tools you have forever. Building a decent motor is simplicity in itself, just get a good machinist.

  7. Do you plan on using the standard bonnet or are you intending to get one fabricated?

I know the rb26 JUST fits into the bay and some nipping of the std bonnet frame is required to stop it rubbing. An rb30 block sits an inch taller, so you either have to customise engine mounts and cross-member, to lower engine, gearbox, etc. or you somehow get a new bonnet fabricated.

BA XR8 bonnet bulge FTW :)

  8. That much power, probably an aftermarket, but as a drag car avoid the N1 which is known to be a bit brittle.

Otherwise grab a standard R33/34 pump and maybe up the spring for the pressure relief valve. What pressures do drag cars with that sort of HP need is the first question to answer.

  9. Shonkymonkey. Official club sign on Barbie is this Saturday. Let me know if you want a pickup mate. Visit this thread after creating a user account http://www.sauqld.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=696 then get to our user friendly hotown. Your ass will be extra crispy after we give you a welcome mate.

Plus my boat arrives Thursday afternoon. That has to be a huge event. If I had a spare car I'd lend it, but meh all out, even with 5 cars :)

  10. Shaun, I'm currently putting together a 26/30 and including the 6 throttle inlet I'm calculating about $6500 or so cost including all machining, forged rods and 9.0:1 CP pistons. This will be going up for sale after I'm done and it will be almost the same spec as the engine in my race car (GTS25t) which has been built to safely run 750hp and live longer at about 500+. But as always it depends on the specs you want.

A PFC should be around $1200 or less and the software (FC-Datalogit) about $600 or less secondhand so I would source them myself.

So given they have to make a profit I would assume that price is drive in-drive out. Otherwise they might be asking a bit much.

  11. Good idea Duncan. Maybe you should post in the intro what people should put in their questions so we can give some answers. Like with Nev above. Sorry to single you out mate but some tosser could start by saying "maybe look in a GMH parts catalogue...." or other worthless crap.

You really need to give us an idea of what you are planning to do with the engine, HP goal, car it goes into, budget etc. From about there we could just about price it up completely and tell if the machine shop is ripping you off.

  12. Spend 21 years getting dragged about the crapholes of the country (anywhere below Qld Border) and armpits of the world (places with shit that blows up and cretins trying to kill for their own personal zealotry)

    Noosa starts looking pretty sweet.
