  1. I'll try and sum up what I did for my 15 yo import, after purchasing the car. - send off to DOTARS for an Import Approval. - once Approval obtained (about a month later), organise for aircon unit to be degassed in accordance (you need a certificate), and to be shipped. - Bill of Lading is dispatched to you (usually by broker) a few days after vessel leaves Japan - from here you can either arrange for an customs agent to look after customs / quarantine, or do it yourself. - if you do it yourself, you need to: a) You will receive Arrival Notice from shipping company shortly before arrival. Take that to shipping line and pay the shipping costs, they will give you a 'delivery order' to say you are the owner of the shipment. B) Once ship has docked in port, take Bill of Lading / degassing cert / delivery order, purchase documents and fill out Customs forms, and pay Customs Duty / GST c) At the same time, organise with AQIS to inspect your car for quarantined material and pay for that. d) Await for AQIS to clear your car. if not it may need steam cleaning and re-inspection the following day. You'll need to arrange this yourself. Obtain a quarantine 'entry' for steam cleaning to be able to remove it from the docks and take it to the cleaners. e) Cleaned, re-inspected, and passed. (Now those steps a-e, if you use a customs agent they look after that for you) - You just visit the agent, pay them for doing everything and they give you ALL the documentation necessary to... - go to the docks, present the paperwork and drive your car out. - take to compliance workshop (tow it..) - simmer for about a week - remove from workshop, arrange rego / etc and it's done! I'd only recommend doing the paperwork yourself if you have time and patience. I had a few issues along the way, I'll link my previous thread which it. But it all worked out so I'm happy. /edit - here's the link: It is the issues I faced when trying to organise paperwork myself.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=45440
  2. Not sure about the rebuild cost, but I've just picked up an ex-drift car. Interior is pretty rough (mainly stripped), but the internals appear to be in good shape. All the usual goodies (adjustable suspension, LSD, etc) included and seem to be ok, as does the rest of the engine. Thankfully the turbo was running an air filter and not just a mesh cover that you sometimes see. Hopefully you won't need anything major rebuilt. Touch wood, mine seems to be a good buy for the price I paid.
  3. It's the luck of the auction game- sometimes you'll get a lemon, others a real gem. Just remember that the auction grading is just a guide, and there may be something that the graders may not have noticed. As for what's happening with the 15 year rule, no further information from DOTARS.. (btw hello from your new mod of this section!)
  4. Cerealkiller - I'm not actually with Famous. That is however, how I approached getting insurance for my car. The insurer I went with did not have any problems as I was a listed driver on the previous policy (hence the premium being paid reflected my risk profile).
  5. If you've been named as a listed driver on your dad's policy insurers should recognise you as having built up some no claim bonus. Talk to the insurer the policy was with, get them to issue you a certificate saying you have been listed on their books for XX years and your NCB is whatever. All insurers that I'm aware of will base the premium on the worst risk ie you because of your age. Go see Just Cars or Famous.
  6. I got my dials done at e-tronic in North Parra. I guess they might do it for $50 or something if you have them already..
  7. Here we go..pictures at last. Picture 1 - sticker on side on box Picture 2 - stamping on cat Picture 3 - picture of cat Picture 4 - comparison with a DVD case Picture 5 - inlet piping with a tape measure (outlet pipe is identical) With a tape measure, the cat itself is 33cm long, 16.5cm across, and 10cm deep.
  8. Hey ppls..just wanted to update the thread again. Everything's cool now. I now have a lovely car sitting at the workshop getting complied. The car arrived in Australia last Saturday and I managed to clear it Wednesday. Considering I did it myself I think that's pretty good. I wouldn't recommend trying to clear a car yourself unless you've got a few days spare, and a LOT of patience. Few little things along the way held me up, but only by like a day. Lots of stress but I have a better appreciation of the whole process now! Cheers.
  9. Tint-A-Car always say they've got a $100 off special on the F1 tint.. Anyway, you might get a good deal if you gather a group of ppl together. In the NSW thread we managed about $160 per car for tinting, with $50 to remove any existing tint. For the price I got quoted to get F1 on my 33 I got my skyline and my van tinted..and I think it's better than my mate's F1 tint.
  10. Yep most of the shops I've spoken to (incl KSR) have said for the time and effort it's not worth it for them..which is a shame but I can understand..anyway I've found someone who'll do it for me on the cheap
  11. It's the 91006. As per http://www.car-sound.com/carsound/universal/910.htm But I can still post actual pictures if you want.
  12. Yep, it's 2.5" both ends. Don't see why it wouldn't fit on a corolla. Bit busy but I'll post some pictures up tomorrow.
  13. update thursday: grr In a nutshell - I'm waiting on the degassing certificate. Still planning on doing it myself. If you want to know the specifics, read on.. *** I called up Customs to double check what I need to do (because I've never maanged to get the same response twice)..anyway the lady on the phone told me "you cannot put in requests for customs clearance and inspection until the ship has actually landed" - I have previously been told that I could file the forms a couple of days before the ship docked. She checked with her manager and told me that only brokers can pre-apply for customs, everyone else must wait until the car is docked. In a moment of desperation, I was about to just get a customs agent to do it for me. I called up CGL (they did my R33 last year) and spoke to them. Was told that yes, they could do it, but I needed the aircon degassing cert first. They also confirmed my car is arriving this weekend. Called up broker .. 'hello Mr Broker where's the degassing certificate? By the way thanks for not informing me that my car is being shipped this weekend..' Anyway he's still having issues reaching the supplier. The supplier previously said the degassing forms would be ready by 5 July, so it should be a matter of him faxing them off when he's in the office next (hopefully tomorrow). Still intending to do it myself though. I'm going in tomorrow to pay shipping line / pick up delivery order, and then visiting Customs to take a look at the forms and see how it is supposed to be done. I'm assuming I'll have the forms I need by Monday so I can go arrange inspections and pick up car later on in the week. Sorry for the post, this thread is turning into quite a biggie.
  14. There's at least one workshop in Australia that can comply 34s at the moment. See http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubMain.asp
  15. UPDATE 2: hehehehe.. I just called up shipping line to verify everything before I headed in today, and they told me ship hasn't arrived in Sydney yet!! It's coming this weekend and it's a bit too early to arrange everything (with customs and stuff) yet, so I'll be going in Friday to pay shipping / customs, and it'll be ready for pickup Monday. Oh well, despite the delay I guess I'm finally happy since I know everything is on track.
  16. remember the head unit is pretty old, so that may be why it has problems playing burnt cds..which weren't around much in 1996.. same thing happens to old CD player in my friend's car..
  17. Update - when I got home today I got an arrival notice from the shipping line saying that my car came in over the weekend! Spending tomorrow running around like a madman paying the shipping line, customs & AQIS, and I should have the car out of the docks this week! Broker still hasn't let me know the car has been shipped
  18. You need to specify which model car you will be using the Power FC with - you can't put a Power FC from an R33 into an S15, and vice versa, etc..
  19. I paid for my parts Thursday, and received them from Nengun the following Tuesday. Can't get over how fast that was.
  20. Went down to Wollongong today, saw a black 33 GTR in Warrawong..then in Crown St Wollongong saw a crazy ass 31..white with silver GT wing, big chromies and rear lights had been replaced with individual clear trailer style lights that stuck out of the back..looked really cool. Wish I'd taken a photo.
  21. Hi, Getting my front lip extension from UAS over the next few wks (as soon as it's ready), and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend someone near Penrith that can paint and fit it for me?
  22. Compliancing is anywhere from $4500 to about $7-8000 (if plates are running short). Basically the compliancer's job is to ensure that a car is at stock condition, which involves 'destroying' all non standard parts that are shipped with the car, as well as satisfying requirements for the ADRS, which may include fitting an unleaded fuel restrictor, new DOT approved tyres, adding a dimmer switch, etc). Oh, and they stick on a shiny purple VIN plate that certifies your car as an import. Search for compliancing and you'll find more info about the requirements. http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RAWPubMain.asp is the link to the DOTARS site where you can search for a workshop that can currently comply 34s..
  23. ylwgtr2 I have the import approval, but I'm effectively stranded at the moment. I can't approach customs (I'm doing the customs paperwork myself) as I have no details of the shipping, nor do I have a Bill of Lading made out in my name. LW - PM sent..
  24. Grr..letting off some steam here..sorries but I'm annoyed slightly to say the least.I've got a car bought in Japan through a broker, that I'm not sure when it's coming in.. Received import approval for my car in early May, and car was supposed to be shipped end of May, but was bumped by the shipping company..to be shipped the following week. Next contact from my broker was in mid June.. two weeks after the day the car should have been shipped (meaning it would have been close to arriving), saying car was now going to be shipped end of June. It's now nearly two weeks since the proposed shipping date, and I haven't even received Bill of Lading, or even a confirmation of a shipping date. Broker says he's been unable to contact the supplier, who's "been extremely busy." Now I'm getting steamed.. annoyed at the delay, but more worried that I'll have a car that will be left at the docks untattended incurring storage fees as I cannot even fill out the Customs Clearance forms since I know nothing about the shipping details. Aah..serenity now, serenity now..
  25. Go Penriff!! Happy birthday mate..
