skyline = sports version of a family car 300zx = expensive grand tourer (sort of like a japanese 928) the latter is aimed at someone with deeper pockets. its faster, heavier & more thirsty. feels like a giant go-kart to drive due to its low centre of gravity & wide track/short wheelbase layout if you clock up 200+km a week i'd suggest the skyline mainly because i think it would be less trouble/expense in the long run. go & talk to UAS at castle hill. they usually have a range of both in stock and opinions based on a lot of experience

mine, no matter what oil is in it, sits on about 2.5 at anything over 1250rpm. never goes higher than that. have used 5-50, 10-50 & 5-40 at idle is usually about 1.5 but occasionally drops right down will have to check it with an external gauge in case it is actually the pump!

as i said there is a metal one that goes in the seat side. if you can see the seats from the boot you are missing both the plastic & metal one. the metal plate also has hooks to hold up the centre of the seat so its not just held up at each end. if you fit the metal one you might lose a little bass from you sub. & occasionally they rattle so you are prob better off without it anyway

mine has the grey plastic panel on the boot side & a bolted in steel panel on the seat side which is, i'm assuming, what you were talking about. the rear seat has to be removed to get to the steel panel. A jap wreckers should be able to sort you out. if not, there is a few lads dismantling r32s in the parts for sale section

having driven cars with nice tyres/shit suspension set up & vis versa, i'd say that there is a decent difference in my mind. alot of grip combined with buggered bushes & insufficient body ridgidity can make a car feel very nervous through a corner. you seem to end up going through the corner fast but it feels like you're only a step away from exiting belly up... for instance my gtst gives a less confident feel to a 300z i drove a while back. the 300 had a sidways tendancy but always felt more predictable, while mine holds on to the road it has a sqirmy, body roll thing going on

GTR against Euro supercars?
cul202 replied to marchGTR's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
this has been an interesting (read angry/defensive) thread. as far as circuit cars go, a creaky old 89 r32 GTR with some boost/tuning, a set of tiens (or similar), brakes & tyres would probably give you a good level of bang for your buck that you wont get with a Euro supercar. Or you could just build up a Clubman.... if i had a large disposable income i'd go TVR, because they are potentially very fast (though i'm guessing not that easy to get aroung the track) & no one else has one for heading down the quarter i'd buy a old torana that already runs 11's or 12's rather than stuff around with my ol 32 in stock trim i'd have a turbo porsche over a R34 any day but with modified cars it is mostly arbitary anyway. it comes down to how much time/money you have on your hands.... -
R32 - All the same or different series?
cul202 replied to pentae's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
not sure about the GTR, but the differences i have seen in the GTS-t from 89-91 to 92-93 include: - finer grain fabric used in seats & door trims - slightly different design for the reflector style headlights. the early model has a moulded ring shape all around the reflector while on the newer one the ring is broken at the top & bottom - blue dials went to black dials on the later series - clear front indicators went to orange - some 89 models shared their turbo with the R31, ie sleeve bearing. -
the lack of a rear wing makes them alot nicer (or perhaps just less dated). I quite like driving 300 TT's, with their torque & wide track, but everyone says the upkeep is to high, hence i went for the skyline. i like the cleanliness of this one though

it's just a fairly std looking diamond shaped scissor jack. haven't got a photo but it looks the same a i've seen in heaps of cars, my old torana included. try spare parts store n the like.

just got out of my car to a ripping sound - the small wear mark on the drivers bolster is now a large wear mark. i'm thinking of getting a low cost retrim for the front seats or replacing them. just wondering if anyone has someone they would recommend in the sydney area. i'm not looking for anything flash, just something to match the rest of the std interior. any help (or an offer on some 2nd seats in very good nik) would be greatly appreciated.

as dirty as it is druzilla, the sr skyline in your link would be pretty radicool. the sr20det has more low down punch than an rb20det in my experience. megala had a bit of trouble shifting his sr skyline probably because for most, skyline must = rb. if only you could keep the exhaust note of the rb

shyte! forgot to take the name of the place off the pikkie. oh well, its not really slanderous... more light entertainment. also found the same car for sale on another site just then &, sure enough, they called it a skyline again. i wonder what i've been driving then

close but no donut...

i spose the auto would work a bit better with higher static compression & 1/2 a litre more capacity than it would on my little RB20. I guess it comes down to personal choice. I'm an ex country lad who has only ever owned manuals. one day it might change how much are those impul 4drs worth these days?
-
i would not have bought mine if it was auto... 2L turbo's in decent sized cars dont like autos here's my ol' wagon
-
4 doors = GTS-t with extra practicality! plus you always get a wave from other 4dr drivers all the 'lines i test drove were 4 doors. come to think about it, i've never been in a 2 door skyline! very tidy spooks mine's fairly std with an R34GTT rear wing & turbo, apexi filter & a 3inch turbo back exhaust. oh & some fugly r33 rims

lol BOOSTD, heh, if thats the worst the boys in the box call your car you're doing well... they're up to speed on aussie cars but a bit behind on imports & the like. they're usual trick is to call any newish they don't recognise a commodore or wrx. & if its old & small its always a datsun apparently... i'd shudder to think what they'd call if they didn't have the sheets in front of them. nice mph with the spray on by the way!
-
i remember a 33 running a 12 toward the end of the night. not sure who it was though. 2rismo or boostd maybe. congrats on the time who's the lad i was talking to out the back with a 32 gst-t on 17psi? his times weren't to bad, getting into the mid 13's with some decent mph. the terminal speeds looked like the times could be a bit quicker still. was good to meet some of the faces from this site! ps jeans with no ass = :boobs:  those who also saw the harley photo shoot know...

spectating as usual hope to see many nice 'lines beating Conformadores!
-
that explains why my headlights are slightly different... left has the ring & right is like the one with 208 next to it. despite the slight differences in design they both have the same intesity & beam spread on my car.
-
find one of djr's sierras. those things left the pom racing teams scratching their heads! 600hp+ from 2L in the '80s - independantly sprung 9in diff $50000 for a race-able piece of aus motorsport history is not too bad i spose...

R32 Bits And Pieces
cul202 replied to burko1's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
do you happen to have a functioning ABS unit amongst the bits n pieces? mine's got a slow leak -
finally saw another 4dr R32 like mine only in bright silver in Newtown on Sat morning. First time my ol' wagon has got such acknowlegdement from a fellow 'line owner in traffic.

in my area, which i thought was predominantly students & the like, i see an alarming number of diablos & the occasional 360. dont know what they're doing in the newtown/stanmore area.. phat sounding cars though. 1st gear seems to go forever
