grouse overtaking story heading on the northern rd about 10-15km north of narellan where it is 1 lane for each direction. had been following a pair of cars travelling fairly slow & quite close together. decided to boot my old torana (plenty of torque & only 1100kg) to get around both of them as i had clear road ahead. as i draw level with the second car, the driver unwittingly decides to overtake the first, leaving me to accellerate as hard as could out on the should to get past without being pushed out into the weeds! until i made it back onto the road in front of her, she still hadn't realised what was happening & was still just calmly overtaking, bearing in mind my torana was yellow with a black bonnet and hotdog muffler (ei not that easy to miss)

the road in question is bloody shocking considering it is the main hwy (and is National Route 1) from Sydney to Brisbane. 1 lane per direction for the most part between Necastle & the Byron turnoff. my rant was that the randoms one encounters on this road make a shitty road even shittier. Unfortunately with each new random driver i encounter i get more aggressive, which is not a healthy way to go on the road

R32 rear brakes onto r30/c210 IRS
cul202 replied to TRX910's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
contact Datspeed in Kingswood, Western Sydney. they do alot of brake conversions into older nissans/datsuns. they might be able to tell you a good direction to go & supply kits for fitting -
bus driver's wishlist maybe. i was similarly confused when i saw that genre of stickers and a large expensive exhaust on a 4 cyl camry. i put it down to boredom

another interesting one was being spat at by a tradie doing about 140+ in a HZ 1 tonner while simultaneously trying to push in front of me on the brisy to gc motorway. kinda funny in hindsight...

holiday driving rant... what is the deal with those who choose to go 10km/h under the limit on the Pacific Hwy until they reach an overtaking lane where they suddenly find the 'racer within' and go 20km/h over? i found this phenomenon to be disturbingly common on my trek to & from the Gold Coast. single lane 10km under - o/t lane 20km over - back to 10km under, making getting past them a little more difficult than it should be. has anyone else noticed this? watching the manouvers people are doing (me included) to get around this highly frustrating species of driver is quite interesting.

yes. the duct behind the NASCAR bonnet actually uses this pressure to feed the engine - the air filter is completely shielded at the front & open at the back where the duct is. but essentially the shape of the car & the way air flows through the engine bay would determine whether the effect of bonnet lifting would be good or bad.

before anyone says 'turbos make a whistling sound' its not that 2 days ago it started making a sound that is similar to the sound of blowing over the top of an empty beer bottle. it happens at around 2300rpm to 2800. i've never heard a car make this noise before i cant seem to find it. i spose it could be a vac/exhaust leak..? sound familiar to anyone?

RB20DET oil pressure? how much do you have?
cul202 replied to Mr GTS4's topic in General Maintenance
there is penzoil in my car atm & i'm goin to drain it & go for something else as oil pressure it gave was less then helix, sometimes almost hitting the 0 stopper! also, since the penzoil has been in i have a ticking lifter for around minute at start up. -
gtir's are quick, theres no doubt about that, but i can give you a few reasons why i went a gts-t. - doesn't look like a jumped up hatch with a sikkk bonnet - interior is less cheap in fit & appearance - most of the parts are common across several models, where as the gtir has many specialised parts that can be hard to get. - i like rwd street cars - i like 4 doors however, if i was going to get a strict track style car on the cheap then a gtir would be a good place to start

the plan: thurs - drink beer & 1/2 price ****tails at the sando fri - get up early & change the oil & 1 tyre on my car, then spend the rest of the day in some form of trashedness with 40000 other similarly minded people. sat - somehow start driving up the coast for a week of more of the same the result: mon - work checks me in to rehab...

I'd like to know how the claim goes through. I, like many others on this site, am also insured with famous & would like to know how they deal with theft before renewing my policy

RB20DET oil pressure? how much do you have?
cul202 replied to Mr GTS4's topic in General Maintenance
that oil is very thick for a skyline!! should be running fully synthetic 5-40 or similar 25 - 50 is thicker that what i ran in my old torana... your pressure is slightly higher than what i was getting on helix 0 - 40. atm i'm getting a max of 2 on the gauge with penzoil so i'm gonna change back to helix. from what i have seen in the forums most gauges dont seem to get much over 1/2 way. -
nice, but did you have a bra on the front of that wagon? spose in tumut it can be useful i was crossing the road to my car (32 4dr type m with a bit of a wing) as i was parked outside bi lo or what ever the old IGA is these days in wynyard st. the old woolpack looks a little different since doug cameron got hold of it... i saw alot of VL Communists with p-plates

the timetable next to my computer is keeping me sane at work aphex muse basement jaxx 'tallica dandy warhols f da housecat mars volta - bollocks to bdo clashes, happens every year regardless of who i end up seeing, saturday is gonna hurt (got to drive up the coast)

the mechanic who did my major service put in penzoil synth 15-40 in my car. my suggestion is not to use that oil as at mid rpms, say 3500+ on the highway, the pressure is real low. it seem that at that amount of constant revs (hume hwy) the oil either broke down/foamed badly or was to thick to drain down through the motor at speed the pump was putting it back at the top. i'm about to head up the gold coast & i'll be changing back to helix 0-40 as the oil pressure was much more constant and stayed higher on the gauge

hey tridentt, i saw a black 33 with a wing & large exhaust cruisin tumut on sunday. is that your ride?
-
that car as far as i know is largely based on a 7M powered supra (driveline, cabin area and tail). and a certain degree of glue sniffing one of my old magazines had a write up on it

Weird things you skyline does

the valet boot locking switch always seems to manage to lock itself, so more often than not i'll have to use the key to open it. -
for a comparison. my 89 r32 gets around 12l/100 average city driving 2 up (215kg) not sure on the highway, will check this weekend from what i've read thus far, the 33's are supposed to have better fuel econ than the 32

alpine way thru to khancoban, then back up thru cabramurra, then down the hill to tumbarumba or talbingo. great windy roads & some interesting things to see (highest mountain in Oz, highest town in Oz, the snowy scheme, etc). plus i can go & beer up at my hometown
