  1. rezz, the corvette has had IRS since the 60's. yes they did use leaf style springs but theywere mounted transversly. if you are familiar with the old Jag rear ends (popular in the rod community) they look very similar but with the rather odd transverse leafs
  2. on mine the mirrors sometimes need a little tap to get them to move. hit the switch and just give the non moving one a little push start & it might work. otherwise a reputable auto electrition should be able to sort it out for you
  3. $99 sounds pretty good. might have to give them a call. cheers jimx
  4. sledgehammer - so good. 10 sec, 400+ & street tractability. but i'd also take a speed 12. not sure what i'd do with either tho (probably harm myself)
  5. first time i've see the old sledgehammer aero mentioned for years. the original write up i read (motor in around 1990) put it at around 1000hp. i'd say the info you have is more accurate as motor's info was rather brief. didn't look like much but it was a bloody awsome car! cheers roy for the info
  6. hey siksII, where do you get those regas' done as they seem well priced. i've had quotes closer to $200 headin up the gold coast in a couple of weeks & the aircon doesn't cut it at the moment
  7. i paid $550 for one off a sII with 50k km. it came with the connecting pipe to the intercooler pipework (necessary), the std dump (throw in the bin), main water line & a whole heap of bolts, gaskets, etc. not the best price i know but my car was due for a service so i needed to get one right then. plus the seller (toshi) lives only 15min from my house. most prices that i have seen lately are between $450 & $600.
  8. saw a white R34 4dr with several silver haired heads in it at Freshwater beach on sunday. the import scene is stretching to the 65+ group. shame it wasn't a heavily worked turbo tho.
  9. lookin good for getting fri the 16th off. may head up the mtns on the sat. the drive i want to do is a 600km round trip thru jindabine tho - a bit further than a 1 day cruise should be considering i'll have to do a 420km trek back to sydney on sunday. i'm thinkin a smaller trip, from tumut thru cabramurra, khancoban & tumba. see how i feel after fri night at the star or commercial or whatever's the good pub in tumut these days
  10. i should (note should) be headin to tumut for the 16th, 17th & 18. was thinking of heading thru the Snowy Scheme for a drive - winding roads with some interesting scenery. the gf hasn't seen any of the riverina as yet.
  11. as far as i have read they were an option on 31's, 32's & early 33's. the buttons on the dash only work when the car is on, stationary & with the handbrake on. otherwise it comes down automatically at around 75km/h & will stay down until u click the up button in or drop below 50km/h. mine still works & is the only one i've actually seen operate.
  12. yep thats what the just jap lads said. probably why my car felt a little laggy than others i've been in. it seems the popular belief is that the bb's came in when the R32 did - not during the R32 model run. but, as it turns out, not all R32's ran ball bearing turbos. at least the SII turbs should be a decesnt improvement over the old one!
  13. pineapples could help me a little. still cant launch mine properly. first n second = much wheelspin/rear end dancing... shitty 205s dont help either. i did the usual snap change to second as i used to in the torana and the bloody thing snaps sidways.
  14. according to the boys at just jap (see the sponsor at the top) the turbos changed during the r32 not between 31 & 32!! apparently the first if the r32's had a similar turbs to the red top rb20, this is why some people have had probs and others haven't. lesson: early 32s = not bolt on fit later 32s = bolt on fit will add to this if there are any further differences (i'm really hoping not!!)
  15. hmmm... now the tedious task of ringing around wreckers for the pipework with larger banjo's. if its a SII problem that makes it more difficult again as wreckers are less likely to let go of small parts on newer engines
  16. yeah i was thinking about mig locking the diff in my old torana until i watched my mate try to back his charger out of my curved driveway... tedious minispools replace the diff gears in the original carrier. fullspools replace the entire carrier ie the crown, pinion & external case are all thats left of the original diff. most proper drag 9in diffs run full spools
  17. yep thats the one. bloody waterlines.at least i'm not the only one i spose (means i'm not swapping to an unknown turbo). most say that they have had no probs. it must have been for a certain year/model. maybe the early r32s like mine had the older (smaller) size banjo fittings. looks like i'll be visiting some wreckers...
  18. as i've said in the thread 'waterlines/turbo swap' i need larger banjo ends fitted to my lines to the turbo. where can this be done? pirteck or similar? or should i scrounge around at jap wreckers for the correct lines for the new turbo?
  19. well i just got back from the mechanics & apparently some skyline turbos have different diameter banjo fittings as the ones on the new turbo dont fit through the original lines!! new turbo is the one 45v2 on the compressor & is currently bolted onto the car but the lines will have to be fitted with the bigger banjo ends to finish the job. lesson: check the banjo fittings before doing this swap.
  20. cheers nissky i'll have to check it out. the mech has the r32 stuff & r33 stuff to play with including the i/cooler elbow from the compressor & both rigid lines
  21. i'll have to watch my typing next time i decide to say someone else is none-too-bright... lol
  22. unless u have 1/2 decent tools just get a mechanic to do. the ease of the job will be mostly dependant on how tight the last person to change the oil did the bolts up. based on how hard my side plug was done up i have visions of an overmuscled, non-too-bright lad doing the last oil change on my car
  23. i was in my mates charger, fitted with a minispool, when it broke an axle on a UWS campus. we managed to limp the car back to mine which fortunately was only two blocks away. it wobbled around but the bearing manage to hold the axle in for those 2 blocks. full lockers (welded, mini or full spool) mean you can only spin both wheels at the same time at the same speed ie no differential action at all. forget about reverse parking with 265's lol...
  24. My car is at the mechanics getting a major service & an R33 SII turbo fitted. He just called to tell me there is problems with waterlines. He said i will need parts from a wrecker which is not good as most state these turbos as a 'bolt on fit'. If anyone who has performed this swap can point out the oil or water lines that dont fit & how they got around the problem it would be greatly appreciated. I will check it out at lunch and edit the post once i have had a good look at the problem... i really dont want to hunt around in wreckers unless absolutely necessary
  25. mine had the std turbs whistle (which is part of the reason why we like turbos, aside from the performance gain) but when the boost came up the whistle turned into a harsh hissing sound. i took the heat shield off to have a look & discovered that 2 of the 4 bolts holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold were missing! got some more bolts & problem solved. if its a hissing/squealing sound at all, check for leaks, missing bolts, stuffed gaskets, etc
