N/a R34 4door Drivetrain Strength

from what ive read on here... the gearing ratios are different and the diffs are different, the turbo models have shorter gears and LSD diffs, except for the r34 gt v which has the turbo drivetrain (but still the taller NA gears??) unless your NA has lsd as an option, thats about all i know, hope that helps! -
really it just depends on how loud it is, mine i could only hear mostly when i started it up inside my garage and the sound was trapped by the walls, but i never heard it while i was actually out driving the car and never got weird looks from ppl in town, lol. but if you can hear yours while your in the cabin as you described it sounding like new tires then maybe it is too tight?

i just recently got my timing belt replaced and the tensioner bearings too and right away i noticed the belt noise, although mine was not a "squealing" noise but much more of a "whirlling" noise, the two sounds being very different, the latter almost sounding like a super-charger, which i quite liked! and it was also in the same rev range you mention now however ive driven the car a couple of thousand kms since the change and the whirlling noise is almost gone, mine too was fitted with a gates belt i trusted the shop and the mechanic who worked on my car so i nvr took it back perhaps the noise is more noticable on these rb motors cos i had another car fitted with a new gates belt (by the same mechanic) and i didnt hear any whirlling noise...although it was also a much smaller motor

lol, my bad! sorry, ok so abs is referring to abs like to do with the brakes right? how does the way the brakes work affect the diff? or is the abs for diffs referring to something else?

im pretty sure transmission type and abs have nothing to do with diff configuration. cant you chuck anything in as long as it has the desired gearing, the bolt patterns match and it fits ur half shafts?

ive been running a kn pod filter for about 2 years now with a heat sheild and cai and i have never oiled it once, no problems yet!

do they fit the neo motor? as the cover has a couple of intake bits that need to bolt onto it at the bac

also myt want to drill some holes in that plastic cover that goes over the coils, i did on mine, to let some heat out

deffinately, mines was often hard to start when id try pulling over to restart the car and clear the ECU of the error code, felt like it was flooding itself i replaced mine with the just jap ones (the red ones if its a NEO motor like mine) they are even made in the same building in tiawan as split fires - according to the distributors, so far she goes great

id say coils for sure, sounds like all the same symptoms mine had before i changed them, all 6 of mine had blown, big black burn marks in the clear plastic resin casing being a manual now, maybe your driving in higher rev ranges for longer putting more heat and stress on the coils which might have put them over the edge and it seems also very common from what ive read on here that once one coil goes, the rest go like dominos

yeah, you'd think the four wheel drive does too?? does the GT V have a "SLIP" light? im asking cos im trying to decide if i can use LSD diff oil when i change the oil, ive posted in the drivetrain section but not much luck there either if i jacked the car up and turned the wheels... wouldnt an LSD make the wheels turn together and in the same direction?? ive had my GT FOUR fully stuck in the mud once before cos i was parked on the grass on a wee hill and it rained all night, lol, when i was trying to get it out all FOUR wheels were turning together....as if it were LSD what you guys think?

theres a good write up somewhere on here about rb motors having a "raspy" metalic vibration or rattle sounding exhahust note at a certain rpm range but there nothing actually wrong, mine sounds a bit like this sometimes

need to steal this thread for a moment cos of the talk of LSD, does anyone know if a 98 r34 GT FOUR with stock drivetrain has LSD already? my dash has a "SLIP" light if that helps?

thanks for the recomendation the LSX 090 is a good price and will be perfect if i infact have LSD diffs, just trying to find out about the GT FOUR in particular my dash has a "SLIP" light above the speedo that comes on when the rear breaks loose a bit, does that mean anything about my diffs or is it just the attessa system working?

sounds like the typical rb NA drone that becomes very obvious with an aftermarket exhaust, mine will do it still, and ive got a 2.5 inch exhaust with a mid system 2in1 muffler/resonator plus a second resonator and a twin tip muffler good news is that its easy cured by changing ur driving style, just drive in a gear lower then you normally would and let it rev up a bit (the idea being to keep it above that drony 2 or 2.5 - 3000 range) then get into 5th gear when your done accelerating - unless your in auto? then you might be stuck with it

my pod makes a pretty notable difference in sound on my NEO motor, mostly not till you go over 5 thou tho, i quite like the induction noise -
hey im changing the trans (manual) and diff and probably transfer oil in my skyline... ive got a r34 gt4, so does that mean it has LSD diffs? if it does, which i think it does, would castrol LSX90 go good in them? ps. i know theres a sticky for this and ive already posted this there but not gotten a response thanks for any advice!

they are legal here in NZ so long as you get the install certified by an engineer, cant you guys get an LV Cert for yours?
