bit of a stupid question but what is a resistor and where do i get it and what ecaxtly does it do im hopeless when is comes to wiring things up

my front bar was ripped off a little while ago and ripped the indicators off and broke the wires i recently got a new front bar put on and i connected up the indicators again but now all the indicators across the whole car flash really fast but when i put hazzards on they flash at a normal pace does anyone know how to solve this ? help is very much apreciated

im getting my car resprayed at the moment its silver they quoted 4000 to fit a full body kit and respray the whole car including engine bay, door jams bonnet and boot if your keeping the same colour for your car a respray should cost 3500 +
