  1. you're not looking at your stock water temp gauge are you? those bastards lie... i think it was QWK32 who was telling me that there's 2 temp sensors in the stag, one for the ecu and the other for the standard water gauge. an aftermarket sensor + gauge will tell you much more than the standard gauge will.
  2. my dad owns an AWD x-type jag and just found out the hard way. less than 50,000k's old and just spat a transfer case. 4.5k later...
  3. we bought the 40mm and cannot complain. highest temp we've seen so far is about 85 with aircon in the city.
  4. i think the girl's has the same thing. when we did the fmic, we would have got about 15ml of thick black oil out of the old smic (as in, 15ml dripped out of it, that's not counting the shit that's still inside there). will be interested to see what the fmic is like in a month or two.
  5. does anyone know what pressure level the factory bov is good for (in a s2 steagea)? the vast majority of time we're getting flutter... i would have thought it'd be a consistent woosh with a proper plumback setup?
  6. a good friend of mine was looking at caldinas a while back. we went to compression test three in the same day (2 were in the same workshop, another one was at a yard) and all of them had at least 2 spark plugs which were wet with oil when we pulled them out. the odds are astronomically high that we could hit three in a row, on the same day and it not be a design fault. so my mate found a legnum in good condition and bought that. the legnums run small turbos though, smaller than a T25 from memory?
  7. pffffft, buy an exige and turbocharge it?
  8. get aftermarket ones (probably for less) and take some factory understeer out at the same time!!!!!
  9. here's a (slightly offtopic) question for you, does toyota have a decent manual gearbox (preferably 6 speed, but i'd take 5), that ISN'T an R151F, but still retains the rear mounted power takeoff?
  10. i'm still not entirely convinced we're talking about the same thing. it's a shame but i just threw the old ones out about 4 days ago. i can guarantee you the ones that came off the stag and the ones that i put on the stag are exactly the same. do you own an s1? maybe that's where the difference is? i also snapped the plastic clip off the old ones, but had no problem with the plastic on the new ones....
  11. i've recently heard of a guy in capalaba who might be willing to provide a decent price on a 3" exhaust. i'll grab his name if you want. i've tried all the shops i could find in moss st... jap stuff off the shelf is cheaper.... also, if your turbo ever has problems, hit up Mike Vyne Turbo on redland bay rd. is apparently a wizard.
  12. definitely not my cuppa tea. would go so far as to say not even my cup.
  13. speaking of which, my cousin's wrx not long ago, spat his front drive shafts into his tyres lol.
  14. that's no problems mate i'm in the same boat just thought i'd see if anyone wants to contribute to it and give any ideas
  15. i'm not an auto-elec, but my guess is if it requires more volts than normal, it's pretty worn.
  16. you mean straight cut gears? lol. wrx's are different over there to what they are here. they definitely go a bit quicker
  17. i've thrown up a media wiki (it's more or less what Wikipedia.org is based on) install at http://stageawiki.joshuafarry.com for anyone that's interested. all that it has on there at the moment is a copy and paste from wikipedia.org of the stagea section. i've split up C34 and M35 on to two pages. i'm not entirely convinced that a wiki is what we need for this kind of application though. don't be discouraged from adding to it though, because if it changes i can just migrate the data to whatever it changes to. i'm busy as hell for the next month or so, finishing uni + moving to adelaide + other projects on the go, so i can't do a lot to it a the moment. but i won't drop off the face of the planet or anything lol.
  18. can fuel pumps hydrolock? be a pretty poor design if they could i guess... lol, maybe whatever was in there dissolved in the kero, but wouldn't dissolve in the petrol?
  19. i haven't been to BPS yet (haven't had the chance lol) but everything i've heard about them is rave reviews. i've had good friends go there who highly rate the service and they deal with euro exotics a lot too and ferrari/lambo/etc owners don't just go anywhere. when i've talked to the guys they're always very knowledgeable, friendly and up for a chat they also put a 2J in an s13, so they win in my books lol.
  20. if you're gonna buy one, i'd recommend ECUTalk. cheaper than the rest, generally will get to you within a week and they supply some software on a cd in the price
  21. there's generally two options for losing the hiss off the fuel cap. first is the the fuel cap itself isn't holding pressure anymore, other is that the rubber seal where the pump cradle goes into the tank is worn etc.
  22. where do you get these from? can you get generic items?
  23. slight thread hijack, but is there a way to tell (outside of a temp gauge) if the oil is getting too hot, before the tranny dies? i know absolutely nothing about auto transmissions (except that they are hideously complex)... should i be on the lookout for flare between gears? bad changes? etc?
