There was a deatomiser/dehumidifier thingy in the roof of my car when i bought it... bout the same as what you're describing but i had them take it out and put a proper light in before i bought it...

nah, usually they do the brake test where they accelerate then hit the brakes to see how efficient they are... If they havn't got enough room in the driveway they might take it down the road to a quiet street or whatever to do this but i'm sure they'd let you go if u wanted

with a pinkie they just test stuff like blinkers, brakes, tyres, lights etc etc... just to make sure the car is "roadworthy"... it takes all of 10-30 mins and you can stand there and watch so basically any average mechanic will do as long as you feel you can trust them (eventhough you can watch them). Does that help?

Ok guys... thought i'd keep updating this (cause i said i would)... Am having different tyres put on the car by the dealer because the ones on it don't match the placard... took a lil arguing but it's being done so no major dramas there... I'll be sending in forms to DOFT and MVRIA soon so i'll be eagerly waiting a response and will keep you posted...

I agree with what Roy is saying.... I attend illegal drags for the same reasons i attend the 'laps'. That is, both the social factors and the entertainment... You may think this sounds stupid but i really don't care... If I want to race someone, i'll do it on the strip (Thankyou son of rajab for WSID!!! ). But i still enjoy going to the illegal runs with mates and sitting there (or standing) and watching the others do burnouts or runs or whatever... I realise that most likely there ARE undercover police there, i don't doubt that for a minute... but i'm more than happy to let them pull me over and breath test me or go over my car because my plates say "regularly attends street meets" in the system. That is a consequence of my actions and i am happy to live with that... I also agree with what roy is saying about the people who complain and refuse to acknowledge the 'link'... But as i said befor i HATE when people get on a forum and flame someone for chirping second when they're the people i see at the street races.... (may have exagerated on the chirping second bit there but you get the picture)...

SydneyKid: Excuse my ignorance, but when you say they'll "burn the chip"... do you mean they'll make a custom chip for your particular car (or atleast have the settings custom made for your car)? Also: would you say it would be a wise idead to do mods like FMIC, POD, Zorst and any other little bits BEFORE getting this done? Or are they fully reprogrammable and it really doesn't matter? (obviously it'd be cheaper to tune the car once rather than 5 times...)... How much would i be looking at for this? how much gains?... (i'm guessing the gains would simply be in having a better a/f ration etc?)...
