Me again! Can anyone recommend a good place in Vic to buy gas? Looking for argon/co2 mix, I've heard of people paying vastly different prices for the same thing - does anyone know a cheaper place? Cheers.

Provided the track is still available for hire in January - from the Tailem Bend Facebook page "Tailem Bend Motorsport Park update - we should find out this week wether our submission to Council to purchase the land is successful or not. For those looking to make bookings, our lease ends 30th November at this stage and business as usual until then. So either get in before the end of November, or we can take a tentative booking for dates post November subject to us buying the property." So, I said I was interested in hiring the track on Jan 28th - see what happens!

Hey guys, I am thinking about driving down for the Mallala Matsuri on January 25th I was thinking about organising a private Tailem Bend day for the following Tuesday January 28th Would anyone be interested? I understand if you keep it small, you don't need ambo etc - under 10 people I think? Makes it quite cheap. So, would anyone on here be interested? I know it might be difficult on a weekday/so soon after Matsuri, but I'm going to hand around for about a week so would be cool to be able to do 2 events while I'm there. Cheers!

R33 Rear Brakes For Drift Set Up
sweefu replied to Reese69's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Skyline drum handbrakes are fantastic, get new shoes or whatever the brakes require. Cutting a hydro into the rear brake lines is crap, I've tried it and didn't like it at all. Drum handbrake is much better. -

33 Gts-T Drift And Street...
sweefu replied to RichSin Autoworks's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I found toe out on the front to make initial turn in understeery, but it was better after that. For reference, my car was an Aus R31 with S13 front end conversion, longer tie rods, -3.5 camber, 1mm toe out, 6.8 castor and 205/45r16 Federal Evo tyres. -
Which BMC are you using mate?
-
In any brand 265/35 is not going to be much stretch on a 10J rim. Achilles are a big tyre for the size, so the stretch look will be less. I think 255/35 is fine on a 10J rim and you should get some stretch because the sidewall is small.
-
Woo, awesome time mate! Do you think it was the tyres that made the difference? Or retune too?
-
Cheers, didn't know that! Would they be able to help fit me up as well? I understand the shoulder height is very important for the harness to fit correctly etc.
-
Thanks for your input! I thought it would be difficult finding a seat which fits me well - I thought I might have to add some extra kidney padding or similar, something to lock me in. I was originally drawn to the Ergo because the small size is a bit smaller than the Pro2000 - I sat in a Pro2000 and it was a bit big. A quick release is a good idea, I'll look into that when I change my steering wheel. I can afford the Ergo, or anything under that really. I think that budget should find me something that fits. I definitely do need to sit in some more though
-
Also looking at Pro2000, seems to be a popular seat and the sizing is OK, although a little wider than the Ergo which might be a problem for me. The Rev looks good, skinny in width but seems to be a bit more shallow (less 'bucket') and less shoulder wrap-around too.

Hello everyone! I have an S14 and I am looking to buy a safer seat, more suited to Motorsport use. The current standard seat isn’t that bad overall, but I know it’s not very safe. I use the car for Drifting and I am looking to enter the Victoria Super Sprint series or something similar to this, as well as Motorkhana events or anything else that pops up – multipurpose car. Also my daily driver for the moment too. I am 180cm tall and 55kg in weight, last time I checked my torso and legs were pretty equal in length. At the moment, I am interested mostly in Sparco seats, a friend of mine runs a small business selling Motorsport supplies and is a Sparco dealer, so I would like to buy from him. But of course I have heard good things about Sparco seats too. I’ve looked at a few seats, but mainly the new Ergo. It has removable head supports so shouldn’t be too bad on the street, then I can add the side supports when I am at the track. They come in 3 sizes, so should be able to get one to fit me well (I am going to sit in an Ergo medium next week). Does anyone have a suggestion of other seats to look at for my size/car/situation, any overall things to look at when choosing a seat, or any reviews? Thanks very much.

R33 Gtst Trnasmission Problem

What did the old gearbox oil look like? Metal filings etc -
Awesome, thanks mate! Seems like the sort of thing I'm looking for. Is this right? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ENGINE-GUARDIAN-WATCHDOG-COOLING-FAN-CONTROL-PROGRAMABLE-RELAY-KIT-EG-2-PLC-NEW-/181206306633?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a30bccf49 Also, is there any option to use a normal coolant sensor with it?
-
I'm looking for a digital water temperature readout for my S14. I'd prefer just a small digital readout instead of a full size 52mm gauge or similar. I know Yashio Factory had the Okachan water temperature gauge (it measured other things too) but this is discontinued and hard to find now. I'm not sure if it was inaccurate either, as it plugs into the ECU and uses the factory temp sensor. Or maybe that was a good thing, I don't know. Either way - does anyone know of a similar alternative? Cheers!

How were they?

White Gts-T's, White Gts-T
sweefu replied to White GTS-T's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
10mm toe out sounds a bit much, is that right? All depends on your driving + how you like the car to feel though. Any testing with the current alignment? -
I don't live in Melbourne yet (moving there soon) so don't have any idea about Fabrication shops down there really. I had some work done by Jake at JDI Fabrication in Bayswater, but he didn't seem to have much in the way of offcuts/scrap hanging around unfortunately.
-
Can anyone recommend a shop in Melbourne to pick up some off cuts of stainless tube? Even mild steel. Also some plate/bar.. just some odds and ends really. Cheers.
-
That's a pretty good price for a new genuine radiator mate, make sure you check the fan/shroud etc for damage. After 25 years or however old the rad is, chances are it's going to be a bit rough. I'd recommend a new rad if you're hitting the track, for sure. Also hoses, thermostat etc. As bad as it is, I never used a thermostat in my R31 for the track (RB30).

What Is The Best Drift Handbrake
sweefu replied to baileysr32gtst's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
My mistake, I should have said handbrake is a crappy entry technique, and certainly not the most common technique. I know you're taking a stab at me by calling me a 'pro drifter' - just to be clear I am an absolute novice, only learning. However, I do know that relying on a handbrake for entries is a bad idea, especially when you are learning. If you learn to use a handbrake for entries you will not develop good driving skill, you will become lazy and end up coming into a corner, braking, handbrake and power out - not really drifting. You are better off learning to control the car with your foot brake, weight transfer and throttle. I drifted for 2 years in my R31 without a handbrake at all, including my first ever drift day (which as anyone who drifts knows, is an interesting learning experience). It is more important to learn about weight transfer and being able to brake, steer and apply the throttle correctly, handbrake is a lazy thing to use and doesn't develop your skill. Likewise, this is an open forum and we are entitled to our opinions (although, we have gone off topic). I'm not trying to argue, I'm just interested to chat about drifting :-)
