  1. No troll... pretty good tyre Could you be confusing it with the Nankang NS2 (total junk?) The NS2-R is a completely different tyre Have you tried it? They haven't been out in Australia all that long, I haven't seen many local reviews yet.
  2. I tried out the Nankang NS2-R recently, 225/45r17 on a 9" wheel. Overall it's a great tyre for the price. My car is poorly setup and unbalanced at the moment, I was only running these tyres on the front. They cope with heat very well and still offer good wet grip when driving on the road too. I didn't think the sidewall was overly stiff, not like Advan AD07/AD08. I'd recommend them for anyone looking for a sticky tyre, good for road/track day combo. I didn't think the grip was quite as good as RS-R but it was close, although my car was poorly setup/not aligned. I paid $135 fitted/balanced each.
  3. Thanks for the feedback! Glad to hear another person recommending these events. I called Peter today (Director for Mountain Motorsport) and he's a very friendly/helpful guy. I'm just starting to read through all the AASA/CAMS regulations. I understand for these events I need to follow the AASA regulations, but I figure if I am setting my car up for tarmac rallies I will follow the CAMS National spec so I am covered for both - apparently the CAMS guidelines will also cover all of the AASA regulations too.
  4. A friend of mine enters these rallies and he had a similar opinion, good fun and more laid back than Targa events. I'm lucky that the next one is about an hour drive from my house!
  5. Is anyone entering the 'Great Tarmac Rally'? It's on October 4th and 5th, part of the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship. http://www.australiantarmacrally.com/great_tarmac_rally.html It seems to be run under AASA and not CAMS I aim for this to be my first tarmac rally event, do many other people from here enter this event or similar events? Cheers
  6. Haha yeah S14 :S I have most of the parts I need now, but have to drive to work tomorrow (daily too) Tomorrow night I'll put it on stands and start pulling the box out, new box in, fab up X member, have tail shaft made.... GOOD FUN! I'll only know Dodge Dave from Sydney (Red R31), but should be a rad time, keen to go for a smash
  7. Awesome you'll be at Matsuri man, been following the build and will be great to see it in the flesh. With a bit of luck and no sleep next week, I'll be there too.
  8. Shockworks would by my pick, or MCA depending on where you live.
  9. Second hand gearboxes can be touch and go, I've bought some crappy second hand gearboxes. It's a plus if you can drive the car before buying it (to see what the box is like), although this is uncommon and would likely result in a higher price. Rebuilding the gearbox, as mention above, is hardly worth it. Depending on the shop you'd be up for around ~$1k (give or take) plus++ for bearings, and chances are a gearbox of that age has some average dog teeth and a few other problems which would need fixing too, and you might end up spending $1500 or so on an old RB20 gearbox. If you can pull the housings off the gearbox and check the gears and dog teeth, then it might be worthwhile having only bearings done. You might save a bit of cash on labour if you can pull the box down yourself too. Otherwise you'd be better off going with an RB25DET gearbox, although you still face the problem of buying an old (although not as old as RB20), used gearbox. Or just go all out and buy a brand new RB25DET gearbox for ~$2300 I've bought a few gearboxes lately (3 in the last few months) and out of the 4 only one of them has been worth using, and it still needed some repairs to reverse gears. This is bad luck, but demonstrates how things can go with old/used gearboxes.
  10. Good job doing the clutch mate! Another trick to stop the flywheel turning is to put a socket on the crank pulley with a long breaker bar, and let the end of the bar rest on the ground, then the flywheel won't turn.
  11. Is it still street rego'd? Such a good car to build, sort of wishing I did this instead of an S14 now.
  12. Great build man, you don't mess around! Did you do the gearbox rebuild yourself, or get a shop to do it? Cheers
  13. That looks pretty good. It might just be the angle, but it seems like the harness might be resting on the back of the seat though
  14. Any chance you would have a stock cat for sale? Cheers.
  15. Hey guys, Just to confirm, a CAMS L2S licence will be acceptable for the PI round? I emailed PI a while ago asking about their open practice days and they said I needed a Level 3 Provisional Circuit licence to enter those days. Just want to double double check! Cheers.
  16. My last pair took about 8 weeks with Streeter, only due to weird Australian customs and Christmas crap. Highly recommend Streeter though, best dude.
  17. Sweet pickup man! Air or sea?
  18. If they are 9" wide then they have a very low offset, those are big lips for this wheel. Assume they would have GTR brake clearance (Fatz...?). Could definitely be wider than 9", or just low offset.

  20. You can do it, it's fine. If you want to, you could choose tyre sizes with very similar rolling diameters and the difference wouldn't be much. I have an S14 and run 16/17 or 17/18 stagger.
  21. You don't anchor the eyelet in the parcel shelf itself, you anchor it through another piece of steel to prevent it ripping through in a crash. All the information is outlined by CAMS in schedule I http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/GeneralRequirements/GQ10-Schedule-I-2014-1.pdf
  22. You can often anchor the shoulder straps of your harness to the parcel shelf (angle will depend on seat). The lap belts you can put through the rear footwell, easy to get the correct angle.
  23. Not coming to Melbourne any time soon are you?
  24. In both the title and the description it says they are reps/ BBS LM Style....
  25. Hello everyone, I've recently moved to Victoria from Canberra. What is the best way to keep up to date with events here? I'd really like to get to some Motorkhana events but it seems like a few different clubs host these. Cheers!
