anyone else think 1.2mm would be the go - dont know whether or not cams would be ideal as well since its all open, are they direct fitment?
-
Thanks mate, im still deciding which one to go for - another quick question, ive been searching the forums on this one. While the head is open, im thinking of replacing the cams to some Tomei Poncams for the rb26dett, these ones here... TOMEI PONCAM Camshaft Type B Kit -143035 (Camshafts) PONCAM Intake and exhaust camshafts. 260 degree, 9.15mm lift intake and exhaust camshafts. These seemed to work well on the rb26dett - are these a direct fit for the 26's, as i was thinking why not do these while the head is open....would this be a good mod for low down response and better power all round - as im planning on going the twin gt-ss route soon enough - and will the stock studs be fine, or would it pay to get some tomei studs for the cams aswell...or is this going overboard?), and will they be fine with factory ecu, or run extremely rich??? I was too thinking 1.2mm thick gasket, my bore size is most likely 88mm (got wiseco pistons so most likely bored out).....what would the compression be in my case beer baron...and why did you choose 1.2? thanks in advise all!
-
Is it safe to be using 1mm headgaskets?, if head needs to be skimmed and i fit a 1.2mm gasket, would that mean id have the same comp ratio as if i were to use a 1mm gasket on a non-skimmed head?sort of?.
-
cheers mate - so having the highest compression ratio possible wont be a problem when aiming for 300-330rwkw max? that would really help, as i would like to keep it responsive, but would i tbe reliable, or would it be better to o slighter thicker, and run more boost? mmm....now im wanting to know what cause the headgasket to go in the first place.....what would generally be the cause?, the head not being machined properly???....the car had done a head recon 10,000kms ago...

Im getting my head gasket replaced, and going for a tomei item over factory. Im wanting to buy the headgasket now - and need to know the right size to go for, and if its worthwhile getting a very thick gasket and changing compression at all - power goal in mind is 300rwkw or slightly over with a gt-ss setup. tomei headgaskets are as follows: 1.0 mm. 87.0 mm bore. 8.7 compression ratio 1.2 mm. 87.0 mm bore. 8.5 compression ratio 1.5 mm. 87.0 mm bore. 8.3 compression ratio 1.8 mm. 87.0 mm bore. 8.1 compression ratio then the same as all above in 88mm bore for my power delivery in mind which gasket should i go for, car is driven on the street and wanting to be tuned for 300rwkw or more with hks twin gt-ss setup (very similar to n1 turbos) - response is key, so i was thinking higer comp would help? Also the guy who rebuilt my motor said that forged pistons were used, would i need to find out the right bore size (if its been changed at all) before going ahead and buying my gasket? thanks.

Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks for all the responses, helps alot. Maybe 300rwkw would be a better goal for the time being, reliability being the key. Head is off, what else could i do while its off that i can easily get access to and replace for my power goal - many seem to make this power on a stock rb26 without too much problems, but since im doing my gasket i don't mind strengthening while its off (whatever i can reach without opening the bottom end) Engine already has forged pistons (wiseco), and N1 oil pump, everything else seems stock, im getting a new gasket fitted and arp headstuds.... and changing turbos to steel gt-ss, but need to know what supporting mods will need to be fitted for reliability....internals also if easily accessible when head is off. thanks:) -
How low can these coilovers go mate?, im after something that can go very low for show days....thanks

Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
p.s: would it be okay to run the stock turbos for the next couple of months, while i save for the new ones, as i wont have the $$$ to afford new ones right away.....i would run them at stock or less boost, and wont let them come on aswell....would this be safe, or just wait till i get the new ones on? thanks. -
Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The car will be getting stripped today, and head will be sent off to get checked up on(crack tested and all those tests etc...). While i'm at it, i was thinking of getting CP pistons (are they all the one size for rb26?), and eagle rods(again are they all one fitment).....just to future proof my rebuild incase i want more power. I hear of I and H beam rods (which one to get for street car which will be hitting boost alot and high in the rev range, reliability is key). Do the CP pistons come in different thou sizes?, and would it be best to get the pistons first, and then give it to the recon'ers to bore out if necessary etc...? -
Can An Rb26 With Around 300rwkw Be Reliable?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok - in that case, i think i'll pass on it, will it be fine to not have these done with the amount of power im aiming for???? Why would the big end go most of the time anyhow? thanks -
Can An Rb26 With Around 300rwkw Be Reliable?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Can i get away with not doing the main + big end bearing when doing the headgasket, i dont know how easy these are to replace, but with the head out, if its not too big a job ill purchase and replace.... -
I cant afford o spend anymore money on my gtr for atleast a year, in the process of rebuilding it now, if you see my rebuild post, and was wondering if these r33 rb26 engines can reliably run 300rwkw all day everyday with the mods shown....possible others im not aware of. r33 rb26 engine wiseco pistons tomei head gasket + arp headstuds + oil restrictor gallery acl race main and big end bearings N1 Oil pump stock conrods with arp rod bolts HKS GT-SS turbos with hks dump pipes arc panel filter with arc box stock gtr intercooler powerfc + Tune ive probably missed things along the way.... Main question here is will the motor survuve so long as maintained well, or will i need to rebuild frequently. Im after street response mainly....how would a 300rwkw gtr feel on the street, and how would it 1/4 time being roughly?

Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Cool, heres what i was thinking, anything else ill need to reach my power goal after the rebuild, things ill run into maybe would help too: rb26dett engine tomei headgasket (still need advice on size/comp ratio) - will cracktest and machine head, comes complete with oil restrictor galley with the kit car already has wiseco forged pistons from what ive got in receipts (will they still be fine after a blown gasket?) Arp head studs (expensive but well worth it from what ive heard) Brand new HKS GT-SS turbo kit (anything need to be modified to get it to bolt up?, will it run on factory computer) Power FC+Tune things im thinking of buying if its easily accessible when doing a gasket change: N1 Oil Pump Arp Rod bolts (stock gtr conrods handle alot apparently) We are doing as much as we can ourselves, obviously the gasket and head will be taken away to be crack tested, and machined...., to make for a perfect fit with the gasket.....anyone know what bore size the wiseco pistons will be? Any other supporting mods ill need to reach my 320awkw power figure? - maybe injectors, fuel pump,. larger intercooler??? Thanks. -
Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks mate - what are peoples thoughts on the cp pistons???......i think the rods arent needed for my power as im wanting only 350awkw max, but the rings would help...cheap price too....ive heard good things about the cp pistons though...anyone care to share? -
Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well something caused mine to blow out, which im not aware of yet, im wondering what would have been the cause of it all......whats the std compression on an rb26dett, and is it safe to assume this compression will be fine for upto 350awkw with a stock head gasket, or would a metal tomei 1.5mm be more safe, reliable?, i heard the stock gasket size is 1.2mm, and bore size is 87mm stock?? -
Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Im going to be buying a tomei head gasket, how will i be able to tell which size i'll be needing?and what compression is best for a responsive street car, reliability being key, im pricing up parts right now. thanks -

Where can i buy n1 oil pump?, are they just the nismo oil pumps, or are they actually called n1 oil pumps? -
Rb26dett Rebuild For Up To 350kw Atw....whats Needed?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
cheers mate, ive been told it has wiseco pistons already, and yeh ive been reading a whole lot of threads on the topic already. What size headgasket should i buym, and is 9-1 compression too much on these engines???, power goal being 350 at all four, and street driven (thus why i want a higher compression). Heres what ive listed so far 9that im keen to buy) ARP head studs, and rod bolts, and main bearing studs Stock rb26 conrods(with arp bolts) N1 water/oil pump - where to buy from though? Std nissan main bearings, nismo big ends...(or maybe acl race main/big ends) tomei head gasket kit with oil restrictor gallery and exh/int manifold gaskets etc... things i need advice about: what type of forged pistons to go for what size/comp ratio headgasket works best - (will i need to match headgasket with piston sizes?) HKS-gtss turbos Thats the plan for the rebuild - what else should i consider in my quest while its opened, and will this be a viable option for 350kw at all four? thanks in advice ppl -
Hey guys, as the topic says, im wanting a reliable r33 gtr responsive street car, good for 300atw, max would be 350kw atw, and was wondering the best way about all thise while the engine is apart. Main goal in mind, is reliability, which is key, something that will take the abuse and keep going, i dont want to keep having to rebuild car over and over again all the time..... Currently its a stock rb26 with a blown head gasket.....i need to know what others have got in their rb26 rebuilds, and how well it all turned out, and if they had any issues etc. Also, i hear that running the stock turbos on a fresh rebuilt motor is a tool for destruction?....can you guys explain why that is... parts to get: (that i can think of) Forged pistons (cp ones?) arp rod bolts metal headgasket kit with oil restrictor gallery etc... stock conrods ok for this amount of power? what sort of bearings? N1 oil pump necessary? water pump? and a good responsive set of turbos(as i hear the stock ones are time bombs when put on the limit?) i need to know what items to get, and in which sizes (ie what size headgasket, comp ratio for street etc...) thanks.
-
Cheers mate, im pricing up everything right now, im thinking of doing it all right the first time.....what headgaskets are good for street rb26dett, that are strong for up to 600hp max....i think that would be my goal - 500-600hp max and for street, responsive car. Theres so many different sizes for the headgaskets, and i guess the forged pistons will have to match this size too? or not??? Wanting to order everything asap as i need the kit fast.
-
Hey guys, i just blew the head gasket in my rb26 engine (r33 gtr), im going to get it all rebuilt and was wondering the best parts to get while it's all out?, thinking of strengthening everything i can...im after a strong street car able to handle close to 650hp..... what size/type gasket to get, and also other things to buy at the same time while its all out?, maybe rod bolts etc.....whats the good stuff to buy for these engines to make them way more reliable for the street(daily driven) cheers.
-
Hey guys, got car trailered back, car runs but really bad, and im not starting it again!, coolant was fully drained and was spitting out the exhaust (smell was very acidic). In closer inspection the oil has water mixed in with it - looks like a buggered headgasket dont you think? is this going to be a big problem>?
-
cheers mate, ill get the car trailered back instead of driving it down, can you confirm this would definitely be the problem, i had a go sarting it again, and just as the engine cranks - i hear a bad clunk noise (seems as though its coming form the rocker cover/fuel rail area)for a quick second and then its gone, car starts and white smoke.....im not taking any chances...could it be the head gasket?
-
Yeah the car just started before, i managed to move it somewhere more practical, it took me awhile to get it going though, and its blowing heaps of white smoke - will it be okay to drive for a 2hour trip as ill need to get it hoome asap.
