  1. whereabouts are the cracks generally, and how far across does the tape need to go?any reason why not to tape around that whole section of the coil?pics would be much appreciiated, still dont quite know where to tape, and will be doing in the weekend again cheers
  2. thanks, do i wrap around the whole coil?or just in the problem areas?is there any chance that if the tape was to peel off, it could do some damage?
  3. also just in regards to the spark gapping, does the .8mm feeler gauge stick need to "just" fit between the gap? cheers
  4. i have an r33 gtst '94 coupe, will this have the older style coilpacks??? regards
  5. cheers, where on the coil do we have to tape em up???, havent seen any pics of this>?
  6. do the coils have to be fuly removed to tape em up? if so, the 2 screws on most of my coils to remove them are f&cked, what will help in easing them up?some crc? i dont want to ruin the thread on them:(
  7. im thinking of insulating the coils....whereabouts on the coil iteself does it have to be taped up?
  8. Hey guys, if i were to change my coilpacks to some new spitfires.....would this mean i could run my sparkies at 1.1mm gap, and still have no missing on 12psi? Will i notice a good diffeence in power after going from .55mm gap???how does gapping affect performance???
  9. Will a fuel regulator be needed for my goal?or will my current one suffice?
  10. plugs are bcpr6es i think it is
  11. cheers, ill confirm they are gapped right and let you guys know. Btw no one ever told me how tight the sparkies should be tightened?
  12. mmm....in that case my coils may well and truly be stuffed, if you guys think at 1.1mm gap 10psi should b ok. are spitfire coils a direct replacement?
  13. how can you tell if youve cracked a plug, and how would it happen?overtightening? also it seems everyone thinks my car is missing at 0.8mm gap, i dnt actually know the gapping on my pressent plugs, and the last ones i had went from 1.1mm down to .55mm, we never tried .8 back then. So i think my coils maybe ok
  14. Hey i think they just gapped them to .55mm to be sure that it wont ping/pop anymore, as it was 1.1mm beforehand.....so i have nevertried .8mm.....and it seems that the ones in my car at present may not quite be 0.8mm(i never had any tools to measue:( one other question though.....whats the best way to clean the area arounf the spark plugs???using something like Dust off (can of compressed air thats used most often for cleaning electrical components keyboards etc....) i'll be having another go soon. I was reading some other threads, and it seems that i should have cleaned the area before even removing the plugs(incase of anything going into the chamber).......i didnt do this....could this be a cause of the problem?i hope i havent done something to my engine.
  15. Hey guys,i changed my own spark plugs today for the 1st time, and apart from the fact the car is still Running:).....im not so happy. I previously had some ngk's gapped to .55mm and my car was running fine at 10psi..,this was done by a workshop, and they fixed my missing issue. But i decided to change as i thought .55mm was quite low for a car with jst pod/zorst and fmic running 10psi. So i went and brought some ngk's that alot of ppl on this forum use (dont know the gap rating, but the outlet store said they are close to 0.8mm) I installed using a guide posted on this forum (which greatly helped), and after all had been done, i took the car for a spin, and anything over 5500rpm would make the car pop like mad! so im thinking the plugs arent gapped properly? few things id like to ask 1) how good are the spark plug gap gauges(wire ones) 2) when removing sparkies should i spray compressed air around the area and be done with it? 3) Do these spark plugs have to be torqued down?, ive been using a rathchet to tighten firmly.....is this advised? thanks in advise, i may have to do this all over again in the wekend, for now ill go back to stock boost:)
  16. Thats what i was thinking aswell, may just replace my sparkies, whats sparkies would you reccomend?may just be that theyve gotten weak over time, car has done lots of k's now. I have a Split Dump into a 3" exhaust the whole way. The guys definitely got rid of the missing problem and thus let me increase the boost, but how much have i lost in the process. How low should the sparkies go when gapped on a failry stockish car like mine?..... 0.8mm?
  17. Dont actually know whats cause this, but ill explain whats been done since having it.I think the car was at its peak when it was stock with a pod + 3" exhaust (no cat) Then a few things went in....... 265 r 235 f tyres with heavy wheels fmic removed cold air box to fit cooler, and never placed back in(long story) gapped sparkies to .5-.6mm as i was getting alot of missing and couldnt increase boost (this may be a big factor?) bought the sau boost tap and set to .8bar atm put in a split dump pipe i feel a combination of the too low gapping of the sparkies, and the big heavy wheel/tyr combo over stock is causing me too have made the big loss. Is it right for my car to be running rich at this level w/o tune?how can you generally tell if your car is running rich, i most definitely think mine is. What would you guys reccomend me do to fix my loss?
  18. Hey guys, just got a bosch 040, and ordering in some injectors soon. Out of the listed mods, which can you install without adverse affects? with my current mods, could i install the fuel pump, and injectors etc on the stock ecu and get away with it, or is it best to do all at once?
  19. Hey guys as the title suggest, im about to put alot of money into my motor, and was wondering the best way to confirm its healthy to start off with, or else i may end up having huge problems in the near future...... whats the sure way of knowing a good motor to start with???
