hey guys, kind of off-topic, but i'd really like to start learning more about automotive in general, and was wondering how most of you got to the stage where you are at now? Was it by the means of doing a course at uni, or just childhood when you worked on cars with your dad or something, maybe learnt it along the way??? Im seriously thinking about working with the hands on stuff, as im pretty good with theory, but whats theory when you can't put it to practice lol. Problem being with me, i work 9-5 hours so the only hope i guess with me would be afterhours courses. i really do think it'll help me in the long run though dont ya think I understand that in the automotive industry, i wont be able to do it all, im just wanting to learn how to pull out, and put back an engine...Tuning, boring machining i'd probably leave for others, i hope you get what im wanting to learn hands on. thanks in advice!

I think i might just stay with stock bottom end till it goes bye bye, then go all out rb30. Just from experience, what parts of the 25t needs strengthening when you make more power?
-
cheers, how much would a workshop charge to do a rb30 bottom end to my 25t??? It sounds like a good plan of attack, can the factory bits bolt onto the bottom end so i can leave everything stock atm and work on it later on???or is it best to do a conversion with everything else (larger turbo ec...) And what needs to be changed/strenthen at the same time mate as i'm goijg to do my sau search research on the subject now lol cheers

What kind of issues do gtst owners come accross when on their goal for big 250+ rwkw power?im assuming fuel pump, injectors maybe?,anyone ever change their head gasket to lower compression, or will this cause too much lag
-
does that mean a smaller offset would mean a better distance from the brake clearance, cause right now my brakes just clear the wheel spokes. Im just trying to figure out the perfect offsets for my wheel, with it just flush with the guards (drift style)
-
Just wondeirng whether i should make the move on my r33 gts-t, im looking at changing my rims, and really thinking about going 17" this time as it'll be cheaper for tyres too, and i heard its the best size for trackwork as well. im looking at getting 235f, 265r???, is that a good combo or not?, im trying to compromise between looks/handling. If i was to get a larger offset wheel, would that mean the tyre that stretches onto it wont need to be as wide to fill the guards(ie stretch a 17x8.5 + 25 wheel onto a 245 tyre, and inadvertly have the same look as a 17 x 9.5 + 42 offset wheel on a 265 tyre???) I seem to think so since offset changes the wheel-hub doesnt it not???

cool ill give him a call then and see what he has to say..... -
Cool thanks for that, im just thinking about all that power and how well the gtst will cope with it, as i'd really like to do some track work aswell, im think a 1-2way lsd would definitely help, as would better tyres...i'd probably deal with it as i go. How about the brakes on a 25-t, anyone ever upgraded after making big hp?, i'd think they would do the job as they're quite beefy from the factory.

how strong is the rb30 bottom end man, and how much can they be had/fitted for, what usually causes the bottom end of a stock 25t to give in? and is it worth dropping compression on the motor or not. I think a compression/leakdown test from my current motor will help, how much do these costs? i still am deciding, but either way im sure i'll be happy. you say more torque down low? you mean it could be more of a practical street car if done right?

Hey guys, i've been seriously thinking about my current situation with my r33 gts-t, and have come to a conclusion with 2 options in mind: 1) Go all out and aim for 250-300rwkw from my r33 25t 2) or sell my car, get a a-b car, and save up for an r32 gtr (eventually getting one within 6mnth period) Ive been searching topics and what have you all day finding out about r32 gtr's and the whole import issue, and will end up just buying a well look after one from here (NZ), if i take the gtr route that is. My goal is to have a streetable daily driven skyline, but one thing for sure is once i start modding i wont stop heheh, so thought beforehand to ask you guys which route you'd take, im willing to save up for an r32 gtr if need be. My r33 atm has the following mods: 3" exhaust + split dump Apexi pod Hybrid fmic thats about it, and a set of 18" wheels the car has done 165000kms, but hasn't given me any grief since day one!, but then again it's never been modded, would you guys think about going all out on such an old engine?or is this still nothing. If i was to take the gtr route, i would probably keep it stock for the year, and maybe just save up for future mods, and keep cash bottled up in case of rebuild...but im hoping to not get a lemon lol. One thing with the 32's, when in standard form, are they quite a reliable car to drive everyday?, as i knw the r33 has been nothing but great in my past 3 years with it, hasnt ever had problems (only light mods though...). I say this because i was thinking maybe the first year with the gtr i'd prolly go for more looks, then move onto power later on......i.e wheels/suspension. Sorry if i've rambled on for so long, im just not thinking right atm!

Clutch Dilemma Need Help, Searched Everywhere!
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cool ill keep that in mind:), i'll eventually get to 250rwkw im hoping by the end of year, would it be best to plan ahead and get a twinplate now?, or will single plate do even for the power im aiming for in the future?just heard that twins are hard to get used to at the start? -

how much for a os-giken one mate?sorry i dont know whether to go single or twin plate....i need some serious help, ive searched and no the differences, though for my application im a bit sceptical as to which one i should buy. -
where'd ya get the distilled water from???is tap water ok, ive had my coolant for awhile now man, just havent mixed it yet. Is clean tap water ok or not??? oh and security, when you say: "4. put the screw back in, then fill up with clean tap water then put the rad cap back on." does that mean fill up both radiator and overflow bottle, or just radiator at this stage, and how much (do you mean fill up with ~8l's tap water)?, sorry man, new to diying lol
-
who sells pre-mixed coolant?, i bought some nulon coolant, but it needs to be mixed with distilled, and how much coolant will an rb25det need to fill(inc overflow bottle)??? thanks
-
Hey ppl, ive got a lot planned in the coming year for my car, but would like to know how well the car will cope with the power id like to dish out to it. Its a series 1 coupe gts25t, '93 model and has 165,000kms on the clock....would it be best to get a leakdown compression test like ive been advised by many others?how much are these tests and what exactly will it show? Cars been very well looked after in the 3 years ive had it, and hasn't caused me any grief in that time, but then again, it was not far off stock!

Power....when Do You Think Its Enough?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in General Automotive Discussion
hehe ill see how 250rwkw feels and responds and then go from there, hell im happy with 200rwkw atm once tuned....... whats the best way to get r33's to stop spinning up when you have more power (ie 250+rwkw)?, i think i do have Sh*& tyres to tell ya the truth! -
Hey guys, searched everywhere but still cnt find out what clutch will best suit my application. Im going to do a conversion soon from auto to manual r33 rb25det, im already sold on a ogura 4.8kg light flywheel. Im looking into buying a clutch that will hold 250-300rwkw as thats what im aiming for.Car will mainly be for the street, and the occasional drag strip, will try and do alot of curcuit work though if i can, drifting probably not. Im in new zealand, is there any way of getting hold of the clutch guru thats in the sticky??? thanks

Power....when Do You Think Its Enough?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in General Automotive Discussion
cheers, i was aiming at ~250-300rwkw, so it seems like a good goal then lol, what kind of times do ppl get on the strip with such power, and still being a street car???i was under the impression having a little less will give you more traction down low?? -
Power....when Do You Think Its Enough?
nsta replied to nsta's topic in General Automotive Discussion
lol, i didnt know you can power down at 300rwkw and stil have traction, is this with some sort of lsd'd or what?, even at 180rwkw i feel there is a bit of issues with my tyres trying to grip whilst building boost! -
Hey im starting to really think bout future mods for my current r33 25t. So far, i have : fmic apexi pod 3" exhaust split dump and have a fuel pump/safc on its way Once tuned im hoping for around 200rwkw, which seems quite do-able looking at others with the same basic mods. I'm now looking for a turbo upgrade that will give me very good response, similiar to stock, as i would like a street driven, track car, not too fond on the whole on/off huge lag beast though. Set aside the turbo, what other mods can give me better response???im thinking of getting the gt2835 pro s
