very wierd issue im having....i connected my boost tap as per picture shown by lazy-bastard, and blocked of the hose as i was told. Now boost doesnt seem to go above 5-6psi no matter how much the tap is wound in/out???? I cant figure out what the problem is, i just went for a test run before, and i get bad missfiring while booting it, and thats when its running less than stock boost!, whats happened? How have ppl on this board blocked afm to turbo pipe?i used a screw, and is it necessary to unhook those hoses fom the factory solenoid? getting very frustrated, btw the boost tap has been opened a few times now to check the spring and ball, ive got another coming in to see if that could be the issue ....just wondering if the standard wastegate actuator hose needs to be replaced to make it more of a tight fit on the boost tap as that all i can think of, and maybe rechecking all the hoses.
-
done it, dnt knw if i should be having problems, but the car is missfiring alot from around 80km plus???, and if i turn up the boost tap, its start missing big time (as if its getting a fuel cut or something), i have the two hoses coming off the solenoid taken off, and retuned the solenoind wiring back to normal, as i used the stock boost mod prior to the boost controller. I blobked off the other hose using a screw, and its a real tight fit does this need an ecu reset?

thanks alot mate, now i can go ahead and do it, is it correct to say the 2 nipples on the solenoid can be unhosed.....???or do they have to be looped?
-
so from the sound of things ill block off the wastegate actuator, just by looking at that picture above....does that make sense, as the pink circle has been blocked off in my pic, while the green connects to controller
-
hey ppl, before installing my boost tap again, id like to get it rite this time..... id just like to know which hose goes to where please, to my knowledge, the hose marked in green is the wastegate actuator hose...and the pink hose goes to the bov? so for boost tap installation, the green end goes to one end of the controller, and the pink hose gets blocked off??? or is it the other way around?while the other part of the boost tap goes to the intake pipe (which hasnt been marked, but coming off the i/c piping. does this sound about right??? cheers

tested gauge yesterday, in terms of running condition, it works!. wierd experiences..... i connected the gauge where the fuel pressure reg. is so i can still use my factory gauge for comparison.....and my apexi gauge will get to 0, at the same time as the factory gauge. When on full boost my car gets to 5 psi on the boost gauge, and the factory gauge shows a bit under +3.5 ( about +2.8 = 6~psi???) so its seems fairly accurate, though this proves my car is running less than stock boost, and has been since i used the boost solenoid mod trick.....i think the solenoid restricts the boost to 5psi if not connected properly???, and thus the reason why my tap wasnt working??? what do you guys think

is there a way to test my gauge on a 25t w/o having to cut a hose and "t" in place?
-
ok heres a pic of the gauge straight out of the box, this is how it was when i recieved it, its a mechanical gauge. thanks
-
just to confirm, is the circle marked in green the "little black box" everyone refers to when talking about the hose that the bosst gauge should be "t" into??? if so does that mean the green arrow i have pointed to, is the right hose to tap into, as that hose is coming off the black box and into the back of the manifold. does it matter where i cut off the hose and "t" it in or not?

i havent hooked it up to my car, but when i recieved it today, it was sitting at the pressure, as most should sit at 0 if calibrated correct?could it need to resync or something when connected back up?

I found a good cheap boost controller for $22!!!
nsta replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
when you say "factory solenoid can be completely unplugged", is that just the 2 stock hoses that can be unplugged, do i need to loop these solenoid nipples? -
hey ppl, just got a used boost gauge from the states, its an apexi el series one, though the gauge while disconnected sits below vaccum at ~7, the gauge works fine, though it sits at 7 (VACCUM PRESSURE)when not in use etc....im pretty sure gauges should sit at 0 when not in use/no pressure, im beginning to think this gauge is going to do more wrong as it will give me incorrect readings?is this true?

can you show me a pick of this please, im quote new to this all. chers -

how do you disconnect the factory solenoid, which hose needs discon? -
thanks for the reply mate, i was just thinking about it, and the main reason for looking at the greddy is ease of install, as opposed to trimming and all that....and of course if its reliable for the power output im after, as i knw hybrid is reliable.

few questions about the cooler. 1) how much power is it rated up to....im hoping for 280-300rwkw....someday:) 2)is there a nipple on the return pipe for my hose back to the solenoid? 3)does this pipe enable me to create a cold air feed for my pod using the stock cooler piping hole? 4)how hard is it to install these as opposed to the hybrid kits and so forth, any fan blade trimming involved? 5)why would anyone go for the r-spl over this kit? and lastly, and most importantly, what experiences have you had with them, ie seat of pants, performance wise..... thanks to all that reply back to me cheers,

can you post a pic as to where i mount the vacum hose nipple to please?
-
can you post some pics, im a bit worried to do it myself, and what sort of modifications do you have to do to the front bar when installing a hybrid cooler, if any.

HOWTO: RB25DET High Boost mode with standard solenoid
nsta replied to paulr33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
hey guys, i just got myself a turbotech boost tap, can you help me install it, this pic, which is someone elses is clear enough to show me which hoses connects up etc....basically can you use microsoft-paint or sumthin to show me which end of my boost tap goes to which part on the intake/solenoid....hope thats easy to understand, even just labelling which hose is will help out, (ie wastgate actuator hose) i'm really new to all this but would like to do this myself thanks p.s do i need to return this high boost mod to factory before installing the boost tap?as i heard this mod limits the boost from going over factory levels? -

hey guys, my mate done the trick for me, but its not working right?, i think hes installed it incorrectly........ heres a picture showing what he has done, the white wire is grounded, is that correct??? -
ok guys, just got my hybrid gt series cooler from aus, anything to watch out for, i heard the fan needs to be trimmed?, and i'll leave my car w/o a front bumper for a little, as the type m needs trmming and a respray
-
also while on the subject, when you replace the std i/c pipe for a fmic kit pipe, where do i plug the hose that usually connects back up to the factory solenoid, as i assume the new cooler piping wont have one
-
hey im a bit scared to cut the middle of my type m, how hard is it exactly, is it sumthing i should get a pro to do or what?

My R33 Is Running Less Than Stock Boost....
nsta replied to nsta's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i did by some new vac hoses for the solenoid to factory t-peice, but its not broken, and definitely tight, i just cut the hoses for a tight fit, so its not lenghty anymore........does it matter if the hoses are on either top or bottom of the solenoid?, as it seems to not make much difference when i drive! havent tested the car yet though i will soon, can anyone tell me how to fit the boost tap to my car...
